In the absence of official specifications for the Indian version of the new Audi Q7, we carried data for the international model in the December 2015 issue and this comparison test story. The final specifications read 245bhp and 2255kg.

How can you say getting into the back of the Q7 was easier than the XC90? You looked terrified.
The moment Renuka got into the Q7 her expressions gave away how much more comfortable and confidence inspiring the Q7 is than the XC90.

Just drove the Q7 again, yesterday. And I must say it's a nice car! And it's probably technically a better car than the XC90. But the X90 has character, a personality, charisma and a sense of occasion no where to be found in the Q7. Yes the Q7's 3,0TDI V6 is relly powerful and creamy, and yes the cabin is a tab more quiet. But in every other aspect the XC90 just blows the Q7 out of the water! The XC90 shrinks around you much more than the Q7, especially around town, and the XC90's interior is two classes above both in styling, and in quality. Q7 has hard plastics in the lower cabin, as well as on the sides of the center console. The XC90 in the other hand has soft touch plastics throughout, as well as soft carpet inlays where the Audi has hard plastics! It's not even close!
wuuut?! did you drive the new AUDI Q7 or the old one? or it was a base model Audi compared to the top trim Volvo? Top trim Q7 has leather everywhere and where leather is inappropriate - there is aluminum and high class wood. Initially based on the internet vids i liked volvo more but after trying both of the cars out Volvo's magic disappeared, the interior is not refined and qualitative as Q7’s
Johny Shutoff I've driven both the old and the new Q7, multiple times. The Q7 was one of the cars I considered before purchasing the XC90. The XC90 has a much, much better interior, it's not even a competition. As Jeremy Clarkson said
"This side of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, it’s the nicest interior you’ll find anywhere"
The Q7 is a great car, no doubt, but it just can't compete with second gen XC90.

Nope, and have actually now driven the 2017 Q7 on several occasions. So you my friend, are the one who does not know what he is talking about.
Riisfalch Cars I've had the privilege to work for both manufacturers. Volvo makes a great car. But to say the new Q7 has a cheap interior is about the dumbest statement I've heard. You will not find anything come close to the Q7 when it comes to interior quality and design.
I dont understand why you said that getting into the third row seat is much more easier in Q7.. I think the process in getting into the third row seat in XC90 is just simpler..
+Kamil Taufiq I agree. I don't get why she had to move the seat of the Volvo forward first before adjusting the backrest. the seat automatically moves forward when the backrest is lowered lol
The moment I saw the spare tire setting on the seventh seat back!!!, I made my choice... XC90 is the clear winner...

I'm in love with the Volvo XC90. My preferred choice is the T8 model. The Audis' have heavy service commitments and the exterior seems dated to me already. The Volvo seems more of a forever car that you would have a hard time giving back. The design comfort and usefulness is more important to me. The cargo area is caverness and the also available center child booster seat instead extra equipment. Off road I feel more comfortable taking the Volvo on a off road non extreme adventure. With the Audi, I shutter the thought. The loyalty rate for Volvo owners is also higher than Audi. That should say something.
Terry Henry come on buddy. You can't compare the Quattro if you are going off road. The Q7 would eat it alive.

Terry Henry your right,if you don't want a hybrid get the t6.and the Volvo has the better seats.I guess the us spec companions the xc90 is miles better.

Volvo's new design philosophy is kinda futuristic but rather VWs always prefer to be in a compact shell ... however the q7 do comes in a variety of engine options and further off-road characteristics comes with a premium which really suks and bro really with hugh torques at low revs the q7 can manages off-road in a much better way .... but xv90 isn't far behind

Hi, I live here in Scandinavia. I have experience on both cars and currently own an xc90 t8 recharge. The t8 plug in hybrid engine is way better, efficient, sporty and way more powerful than the engine available in the q7. As for comfort it also beats the audi in terms of materials used in interior and comfortable layout of the cabin. In terms of driver assist technology both are almost the same but you get more software updates on the volvo than on the q7. Adding to the point all safety features in the xc90 since volvo is known for safety it beats the q7 in that point too. Q7 is a good car but it's not really intended to be a 7 seat suv.
Well, if lack of power is your problem with the Volvo, there's the T8. I test drove both cars and driving dynamics is almost the same. The Volvo's auto pilot/ self parking assist and the incredible B&W won me over.
+Matthew Fox Much of the benefit of the T8 hybrid is lost to the additional weight burden imposed by the battery and secondary engines. Altogether the additional hardware adds a further 300kg to the vehicle kerb weight. The equivalent combined mass of 4 large blokes! That for an extra 87 Hp from the electric motor and a further 240nm of torque! Volvo may have gotten away with it on something like the s90 or v90 but come on now, its plain to see- they should have offered a V6 diesel with this 7 seater SUV.

Surprisingly, volvos 4 cylinder has plenty of power. The xc90 has several driving modes, if you're driving it in eco mode, then obviously it feels underpowered. It's a must that you test drive thexc90 to actually experience how great the car is rather than relying to these bias reviews.

Hello, I noticed that this XC90 has the front end skid plate bumper installed but is missing the back end of the skid plates. May I ask why you chose to do so?
When I am going for a 7 seated car, I would rather look at the comfort.
If not why would I possibly got for a 7 seated car.
If you are looking for a SUV with performance, then rather look at the Porsche.
XC90 is the safest 7 seated SUV in the wold.

porsche cayenne and Mecan are cbu units for India with no doubt they would be obviously cost a lot more thn other ckd SUVs in India . For a strong driving enthusiasts one should look for X5 being given in that price segment.
+nakul singh Every Volvo Car is either made in Belgium or Sweden, so it also comes under the same category but their pricing is aggressive.
X5 is also a good car but after looking at the 7 series, we should expect a facelift soon.
So yeah, should wait and watch for the X5..

There's just something special about the XC90, it has personality...Audi's are just so bland and clinical these days.
I believe Volvo XC90 and Audi SQ7 are similar with Mazda - CX 9 and Hyundai - Palisade but the problems are not available maintenance with spare parts especially in many countries in Middle East 🤔

In India that won't work cause most of safety features that Volvo provide is not available in India.Volvo outclasses q7 when it comes to headlights but that's it cause' q7 has stronger and safer braking due to ventilated disk brakes unlike non ventilated disk brakes in xc90 and Audi also has stronger body. People also have complaints that Volvo car's engine catches fire or smokes come out of them (in India).

I have both cars(previous generation) I love the xc90, huge improvement. Audi enginners probably inhaled to much of their clean diesel fumes. The new q7 looks small and ugly in comparison to my 2012 model, terrible styling.
+KRASADVO Totally agree, I used to own a 2012 model as well, the 4.2 TDI which was a great looking SUV and nice to drive. I wanted to change it for the new one, but it just looks ugly and weird. And that's why I finally bought the XC90

+A Matt It's incredible! Miles better than the Q7. It feels much lighter and capable, the seats are way comfortable and the gas mileage is almost the double, really it is incredible

Audi don't use a ZF gearbox. They use an Aisin Warner gearbox, the same brand as Volvo do, but Volvo use a transverse engine model. Aisin is also used by all Toyota and Lexus models too.
bullshit bro... gets ur facts rights, this q7 surely uses 8 speed zf transmission which is better than traditional aisin used by toyota, volvo and ford etc
Should make some provisions to make the spare tyre fit under the floor or into the boot itself making it comfortable for the seventh passenger without getting to keep out without the tyre
Apart from Exterior and practicality i would go for the Q7 because of its refinement and isolation of cabin from the rest of the world.
Audi Q7 sets the benchmark again this time..
But sad that they have really ruined its looks and it has lost its big badass look. Old Q7 had better road presence...

Good review. Test drove both myself, they are not comparable as the XC90 is not as "premium" in my opinion. If you pay this much for a car (130-140k USD in Norway), it should be way more silent than a family station wagon at 1/3 the price. The Volvo was not. Way too much cabin noise and not as sophisticated air suspension on the XC90. Ended up ordering the Q7 Etron as it was the better choice for me. But I think the XC90 will have better resale value, at least in my region (Scandinavia). Also the Volvo dealerships have better service and reputation than Audi dealerships here.
PS: The review says the Volvo is the only one with HeadUp Display - this is false. I ordered it on my Q7. But the extra options on the Audi are ridiculously priced compared to the Volvo (3-4x).

I am using a Audi Q7 and before purchasing it I did a relatively long research. Took long test drives of almost all the vehicles in the segment and concluded that Audi Q7 is by far the best vehicle in the SUV segment. I suggest u all try the Quattro version .Amazing Space & stability !! It is the car that will make you take holidays just so that you can enjoy your life with ur family and friends. Bose audio system is incredible. Makes you feel like sitting in an auditorium.. like I said feels like a luxury holiday !!Go take it.. trust me you will not regret.Happy holiday!

Almost every review on the Q7 has hailed the best crossover/SUV for 2017. It's obvious most of the comments here are based on looks over function and it's also obvious most here haven't test driven either vehicle. I have and extensively and although the XC90 is slightly more comfortable and refined it pales in comparison when it comes to ride, performance and technology to the Q7. Yes the XC90 is beautiful, it's a great redesign (minus the overpowering red plastic in the rear) but between the noisy cabin, bumpy ride over rough terrain and lacklustre base engine I think the Q7 is overall the better vehicle.
What technology are you talking about? The Q7 looks ugly as sin. poor rear seats, less space. And then reliability and cost of repairs. SUVs are for wafting about is serene comfort. For space, utility and versatility. If you want to race around buy a sports car. much cheaper preferably BMW or Mercedes. NOT AUDI!

Don't think I'd disagree with anything said here. But the Q7 consistently tops all the charts for worst reliability. Not bad reliability, the worst! A real shame. I just hope the new generation is better.

q7 bose, it has very tight bass
the XC90's bower & wilikins is much better, with 1400 Watt it blows the Q7's Bose away!!
Volvo's standard premium 10 speakers 350 watt sound system is as good as Q7's Bose. There is no comparison between Volvo's B&W and Q7's Bose for a better sound stage, given you are playing true in full quality uncompressed music.
bimosalexandres the q7 Bose is standard for the higher trim for the Audi and I have it, it sounds good and really crisp but punch not too much. And there is a higher more expensive sound system that can compare with volvos highest speaker system and Audi bang and ofluse is the most advanced sound system in any car. With a 23 speaker setup
It is better than the Bose, yes, but the premium B&O 3D speaker system for the Q7 is simply better than any premium car sound system I've ever heard, and this includes the upgraded audio systems for both the new S-Class and the new 7-Series.
VOLVO XC90 is the ultimate👌👌 because everyone wants the safety and more no. of seats but in Audi Q7 it's not like that the third row is fully disturbed by the spare tyre.😒😒😒
So I suggest VOLVO XC90 is the best SUV when compared to Audi Q7.

In European model they have all the features including auro brakes, but in india they remove all important. Which is really bad. Volvo is the only luxury brand has all features as the Europeans but it's damn expensive in india but not popular in the world.

Technically it’s only 6 seater it should should be considered as Q6 not Q7 with spare tyre consuming one passenger seat. On the other hand XC90 is perfect 7 seater!
Audi should should consider as a major draw back and overcome this for next gen Q7.
Outside of India, the Q7 comes standard with 7 seats. I'm really not sure why they have a spare tire for the Indian market instead of the 7th seat. But like she said in the video, one has the option of choosing either the spare or the seat. So technically it is a 7 seater.
Why was GL from Merc not included in the comparison?

Although XC90 looks good and interior is way better, but in India, there network is negligible in terms of Audi. Audi is reaching to greater quotient of customers and it's road presence is already clear

I presume that the reason for Volvo loosing out to the Audi is because the former is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China.
I still have doubts about the QC of the Chinese.

Please Compare Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLS 350d.
The situation with the spare wheel is a disaster from Audi which should have storage room for a space saver as a minimum. Also, no dedicated storage area for the load cover under the load floor (almost a must have these days!). The trunk should be larger than the Volvo's as the Audi is 10 cm longer in length, so I don't know what has gone on there! In fact nearly everything about the third row and the trunk is disappointing from Audi. Interestingly, these are the kind of areas where the likes of Land Rover/ Range Rover/Volvo seem to excel. That aside, the Audi is clearly a better balanced and more refined package than the Volvo
Here in Europe the spare tire is under the trunk floor, so i'm kinda confused why it is so stupidly situated for Indian market :-/
+Johny Shutoff - yes, but only in versions without a third row-that is the trade-off for having an integrated spare with the q7. Volvo managed to squeeze in a space saver beneath the third row. Still, I don't agree with just 4 cylinders from Volvo and hybrids are rubbish for towing. I'm gonna wait around until the Land Rover Discovery 5 drops before deciding- that should have a usable 3rd row, a full size spare under the chassis and V6 that should deliver 300hp + and 700nm of torque ( a powerplant JLR is already using on the F-Pace)
