I honestly feel the previous gen Q7 had much better Road presence that the current one. SUVs are bought mainly for their Road presence. And I prefer the older boxy designs to the sleeker versions of SUVs. Who all feel the same?
who was in charge at AUDI when they decided to put the spare wheel in the boot.

Agreed. It is a poor choice of design. If it's a full size spare tire then they should have mounted it under the rear end of the car. The whole idea of having a 7 seater is to utilize the space to its maximum output. Putting a spare tire reduces that & it just looks so off. Everything else in the Audi is so damn perfect.
+jaimin891 you really think they would put it in the boot if they had a choice to put it under?? it's because there's no storage space under... it's not only Audi.. even Mercedes does the same with many of their cars...

On Indian roads, there are so many Q7 and the new version does not look any different. Rather go for GLS :)

GLS and Q7 are 7 seaters while GLE is only 5. I think it is the main factor why they compare these two models

I know that having run-flat tires or space saving spare tire is not always a good Idea since your tires may heavily damaged on off-road situation, but a better idea maybe?
True, just does not make sense. How can they make spare tire an option. Whatever technology they have put, it is just strange to compromise on spare tire

Even expensive cars have silly disadvantages. A person who has a big budget but wants practicality will choose a Scorpio instead of the Q7 just beacuse of the stupid spare wheel

GLS makes more sense when your spending almost the same amount of money ! and can we have the XC 90 also being compared to the q7
Mr. akash Volvo XC90 won't come in this comparison as it is just under 2000cc
whereas GLS and Q7 are3000cc category more over bhp also come around 250 for these mammoths
Mr. Ramesh Xc90 is almost equal in price and size as compared to gls and q7. There is very less difference in power among these three. If XC90 has a smaller engine that doesn't means it cannot be compared with these two.

you are right on one point of view.being diesel vehicle above 2000cc is taxed hugely, obviously the best choice would be XC90 rated under 2000cc with almost performance and features.
but, really u need to realise at one point of view that mercedes benz GLS350d, Audi Q7, BMW x5 are weighing nearly 2500to2600kgs unladen weight. these giants and mammoths vehicle are really powered up with high efficiency which can never be compared with XC90 as it is a crunching baby elephant with weight of 2000kgs of weight.
so., you can guess and came to a conclusion that those mighty wagons pulling a heavy weight will never be opted for comparison chart with these vehicles. and XC90 is always a tiny & smart 7seater
Xc90 is not at all tiny ! Yea the third row is not as spacious as gls but bigger than the q7 ! I have the gl 350d I love my car ! But my second choice after gl would be xc90 !

Maybe this is a dumb question, but my old suburban had a second row of captain's chairs. Doesn't anyone make the second row with captains chairs anymore? You can just walk back to the third row

Audi could have placed the spare wheel on the rear door as it is occupying 1/4 th of the boot which is something very disgusting in the Full Size SUV

When are you guys gonna review the '16 Pajero Sport? Also is it required by your gov't to have full size spares at the back? Cause over here a donut spare will suffice.

GLS is a very big SUV . It is the best car for a family with kids. (Like a family with 3 kids me and my husband decided we need a big car and two smaller SUVs ) It fits us perfectly
GLE /coupe it's not as big as the GLS but it's still impressive . This was our second choice . We use it like a car for small trips or even in the city.
GLC / coupe is big enough for a family with 2 kids . ( we live near a mountain so it's snowy in the winter. We decided this is the best car for the city and also we use it to take our kids to school,kindergarten etc.
GLA - my personal opinion is that it isn't really an SUV. It's small and short . A family with no kids can fit .

Gls is much superior. They are different concepts. In fact audi is gonna sell a new q9 and bmw the new x7 to rivalise it.
My favourite SUVs are Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 excellence
What about xc90?, does it not comparable to these two

@autocarindia may be u should to take the q7 against gle 350d because q7 is not a typical 7 seater suv as gls. I think gle 350d would be a perfect rival for q7 and it would really be a tough competition for q7 may be try that.
I hope this is Merc's last facelift that carry their old telephone centre console.. it's so outed now to Audi's slick touch sensitive one

The Mercedes is nice too but that interior looks so dated, went and test drove one and you can see pixels on the screen. UI on screen looks cheaply made.
Audi drove better, had the virtual cockpit, center screen went up and down, had far better sound quality, more backseat legroom. Driving the Audi was so cool, upon starting the car, the Bang and Olufsen speakers and center screen rose up, and the interior lighting changed in the cockpit.
I expected more out of Mercedes, all it had that was better was a beefier engine.. I'm a car guy so I can appreciate it, but they slacked everywhere else.

GLS350 is just the entry level. The AMG version is definitely a class of its own.

GLS is more expensive, bigger, heavier, wider, more luxurious. No competition.
But you better compare Benz GLS with Volvo xc90 this will be the best and touch comparation. Please do it friends
Volvo XC90 inscription is better than both Mercedes gls and Audi q7 because it provide because it provide park assist pilot, lane keeping assist, 12 inches infotainment, ventilated and heated leather seats with massage function and a superior efficiency of 17 kmpl to 37 kmpl depending upon variants but the best thing of gls and q7 is that both provided 360°cameras
I would go for new ford endeavour instead which provides all the features provided by these two cars.and save 50 lakhs.

Ford endeavour does not provide 360°camera, ambient lightning, ventilated & heated leather seats and 14.75 kmpl efficiency in diesel 4×4 AWD automatic
