Welcome to The Amish Potato’s Channel. My name is Cj Miller. I was raised Amish in Shipshewana, IN. I was Amish until I was 16 years old, when I started dressing “English”, drove a car and partied on the weekends. This is called Rumspringa.
I did this until I was in my late twenties. I then briefly joined the amish church, left again, and moved to Idaho where I discovered the truth of who Christ is, married my lovely wife and am now sharing my story on UA-cam.

The Amish from Chouteau, OK bale our hay (Chouteau is 15 minutes from us) and when we show the process people get so mad telling us they aren’t Amish 🤦🏻♀️ We’ve tried explaining to them the Amish in Chouteau is a little different. Glad someone else agrees. Ha!

Baptism is just symbolic. It shows that you are buried with Christ and like Christ have risen again.
It is not necessary for Salvation.
You watch for hypothermia. Check out the signs and symptoms. It can be dangerous without you knowing it’s happening.

I just discovered your channel & watched this video. I'm sorry for your loss of your grandma. I was born & raised in Berne, IN, where there is a large Old Oder Amish community, very conservative. Even open buggies are considered too worldly. My paternal great-grandparents were originally Amish, but left & became Mennonites. I'm sure I still have many Amish relatives...with a last name of Schwartz, it's pretty much a given! My paternal grandmother, my father & his siblings, all became members of the Apostolic Christian Church, as did myself, my siblings, my wife & our daughters. After getting married over 51 years ago, I lived in Bluffton, IN until October, 2021, when we moved to TX, to live next to our daughter, son-in-law & 7 of our grandchildren. I will explore your channel more & thank you for your posts!😊❤

So sorry for your precious loss. I'm just catching up on your news. I love my family are you're neighbors and friends and part of the community to help with funeral chores and duties. I have a nephew, still Amish, living in Chouteau, OK. My IN family are uppity? Ok. They do have beautiful farms, gardens, and flowers. I was nearby recently, but only met up with my sister in Angola. I was visiting from Toledo and couldn't spend the night in Goshen. I love going "home" as often as I can.

I do not want cremation nor do I want to be embalmed. Just a plain wood box and in the ground. No vault. I even instructed the funeral director not to lock my casket.

So let me ask this. Your Bishop does not think you are going to Hell because you left the church and are now and outsider? I have always heard and read you are going to hell if you leave the faith no matter what. I am sorry about the loss of your grandmother. It is heart breaking but also a relief that they are no longer suffering or in pain and the family is lifted of the task of caring for them.
On baptism it is our witness or visual witness to the world that we have committed to follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior. It is in scripture and ashamed I don’t have it memorized where it is in the Bible.
Christians get Baptized because they want to. Others because they think they have to. I got Baptized in a lake just because that is what my Savior did.

Do Amish make their own caskets? My local funeral home has Amish made caskets. I know a van driver in Missouri that used to drive an Amish man who made caskets and had to have them delivered to a place to finish the inside of the casket!

You OWE it to them to take care of them in their vulnerable, later years.

@28:00 Its my understanding that the mainstream Church of Christ broke off from Pentecostal traditions (aka Church of God, Cleveland TN branch) due to not using instruments in praise and worship music. On the baptism thing I believe in baptism by total emersion unless it isn't available. Also IT DOES NOT SAVE YOU. The thief on the cross was a death-bed salvation and Jesus didn't go baptize him before saying he would be with him in Paradise. That is what we called a "legalistic" doctrine back when I believed I was called to preach. Jesus didn't call lawyers and attorneys to spread the gospel. He called regular men and women.

I had Amish grandparents, but my parents left and joined the Beachy Amish before I was born. However, my husband and I left there 30 years ago and attend a non denominational church. I still have lots of Amish relatives. Just guessing there are probably around 10 Old Order churches and two New Order churches. I have relatives in both.
My Aunt, was from Chouteau OK. But lived in Iowa most of her married life. I wonder if you’re related. I also have a cousin who got married to a guy from Chouteau and lives there. Originally my parents and grandparents all moved to Iowa in the 1950’s from Thomas Oklahoma.
My Mast grandma was from Thomas, OK, then married and lived in Yoder, KS, then Kalona, VA, ended up around Nappanee, IN.

One of your stories reminded me of a story my cousin told me about our grandfather. Grampy was supposed to have quit smoking but would say he was going to be welding something in his shop and would go smoke. Lol Anyway, my cousin Jimmy and his brother Johnny snuck out to the shop and got Grampy's unfiltered Camel cigarettes and went off into the pasture to smoke. I think they were preteens or young teenagers. Grampy caught them, but he knew very well that he couldn't tell on them without telling on himself. 😂😂 He made them smoke several back to back until they were both feeling sick, then told them he'd tell their parents if they ever did that again. 😂😂

My family got baptized in a friends pool in the winter. It was painfully cold. It amazed me how our preacher handled it through all 5 of us.
Plain or wannabe? I'm speaking about myself. I feel like i"m enjoying their light without making the commitment. They call it a foot in both worlds. We are all sinners. We will all be saved.
