I absolutely remember Hold On being played on WABC radio in December of 1970, even though it wasn’t a single (possibly because it was the most AM Radio friendly song from the Plastic Ono Band album, if not the only one).

When I was a kid, maybe 14, I did not really appreciate Mind Games. I loved several songs, but I just didn't get it as an overall album. When I listened to it later in my life, when I hit my forties, I finally got it. It really is an artist talking from his heart at his mid 30's.

Mind. Games is a masterpiece. Meat City is almost heavy metal pop.

i would have liked John to have visited England again and maybe revisited Liverpool. It would have been good to see him with his fellow Beatles at Ringo and Paul's weddings , maybe and who knows working with Paul again one day .

Mind Games is an album which I am enjoying more as I age. Marriage, life, etc. John Lennon had a way of describing domestic situations which speaks to many of us.

Sad new about Denny! Recent losses:
Lee Curtis of Lee Curtis & The All Stars that Pete Best played with post-Beatles
Ritchie Routledge of The Cryin' Shames - who I met in Nashville & was gracious enough to introduce me to Good Ol' Freda Kelly during 2 of her visits there
Michael Snow-another Scouse ex-pat mate of mine in Nashville; of Lee Castle & The Barons, Ferris Wheel, Rocking Horse & others; was musical director for Doris Troy's record produced by George & sang backing vocals on Power to the People for John; was also musical director for Chuck Berry's '72 tour of England (great clip of him banging the keys with Chuck on UA-cam). HIGHLY recommend his autobiography, Mersey Me! A Liverpool Lad on the Loose in the Swinging 60's
Sadly - we're slowing losing that whole generation...

Wasn't Mind Games recorded during his "Lost Weekend" away from Yoko? I seem to recall an interview with May Pang where she mentions that she felt John wasn't "lost" at all when he was recording it...

My favorite thing about 'Mind Games' is the spoken word bits (reversed) on "Meat City".
The reverse vocal on the US single says "check the album", the album says "f*** a pig".
Curiously the Japanese single says "my daddy" and it sounds like a child saying it. I own this 45 but have not dubbed and uploaded it to any streaming platform.
also, at the end of "Meat City" John says "who is that . . .and why are they doing those strange things?" but every cd version (incl the '05 remix) of the song fades after "who is that . . . ".

Always appreciate your effort and your camaraderie. I did not always agree with. John,, politically, but, I never burned any. of my music. Such a tragedy that someone who fought so hard to be in New York an American citizen was then murdered after doing so, tragic. "Mind. Games" I thought was a kind of a redemption for John, a looking forward, none of us could have ever imagined .

I was 16 when Mind Games was released, and the only changes were female voices and falsetto vocal, otherwise another album of top melodies, and good playing.
I find that the haters are those who want POB and Imagine over and over.
I love that none of John's albums are the same.

I miss John's quirkiness. Somewhere Paul said, John. peered over his glasses and said something like. "It's only me." Authenticity

There was a book "Mind Games" that john was promoting. I had/have? the book and I did not have the spiritual awareness to find it of much value - My big brother thought it was wacko bananas. I do like the remix much better - and in the 4 CD box set I really like some of those takes too - It was a shame they were not included on the single disc of it - and this is a topic for you - there was better stuff that should of gone on it like the brilliant "Be My Baby" - and "Woman is the -" was a mistake - it had some good intentions but it does not work and should not have been put on that single disc. I guess no one wants me to say that, had not the tragedy happened, - the Beatles would have gotten back together! Listening to the wonderful decades of music by McCartney since the tragedy it is such a shame that there isn't a matching catalogue by Lennon.

So I'm confused about Darren's story. A guy was playing Walls & Bridges on a boombox in 1980. Yet I thought Boomboxes only played CDs which weren't invited until 1983. So did this person have a boombox playing a vinyl record of Walls & Bridges or was this a few years later? Also I have been trying to find Allan's book "You've got that something" but it's not available anywhere online. I was 15 in 2005 when I decided to start collecting John's solo career. My intro was Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon. Which has 4 songs from this album: Mind Games, Intuition, Out The Blue, and You Are Here. I've always considered all 4 of those tremendous. I don't think I bought the whole album until 2018 when I got it at the Fest For Beatles fans. I played it a few times and I really like Freda People and Tight as. But it's not an album I have listened to much since. As for what I miss most about him it's his politics and his confessional songwriting. In 2011 when the Occupy Wall Street movement popped up my first thought was how I wish John was here to comment on this. His music with the Beatles and in his solo career is so confessional and vulnerable that's what always drew me to him. My most favorite albums by Paul, Tom Petty and Neil Young, are their most confessional albums. I hope that if he lived longer he could have become a good dad to Julian one day and Sean deserved a father for more than five years. Good to see you guys again. I love the show.

seems like Paul could fork over whatever Denny needs for expenses, since he is ridiculously rich would be nothing for him to help his old band mate... just saying

Jeeeez Ken, you never criticize one thing about solo Beatles material. It's so difficult to believe your opinion when it's always the same.

Ken has lived with solo music many decades, which I'd offer gives him the ability to see positively, rather than stockpiling criticism ?

I happen to like most of the Beatles solo-music. Is there anything wrong in saying that? At least I've taken the time to listen to all the music, and thoroughly. If this is the way I feel, I owe it to my listeners to be honest. In many ways, I prefer their music individually, while recognizing the greatness and historical importance of their works as a band. There are some people who aren't critical of the Beatles as a group, and yet that's okay? If you've listened to all our shows, you would have spotted specific solo-songs that I don't care for.
