  • This is the second part of the COTA trip, and I'm setting up motocamp in this video. It's a timelapse with some track sounds and some music to pass the time. The temperatures dropped rapidly as the storms rolled in, so I bundled up in the tent early that night.
    The tent used here is the REI Half Dome 2 Plus (2013 model) with a dedicated footprint, the REI Flexlite Chair (2013 model), and the Kelty Noah's 12' tarp with 2 sets of Paria Outdoor adjustable tarp poles.

    I’m enjoying g your road trip videos! Just bought a Ryker 900 and I’m seeing my future possibilities 🙂

      Thanks for the feedback, and congrats on your new Ryker! These bikes are great fun to ride. I've had my problems with the alignment and front suspension issues, but I still love to ride this machine. Long-distance touring comfort can be enhanced with a MadStad windscreen and an AirHawk seat cushion, and my cruise-control hack is a must ( ua-cam.com/video/KPAomxzdCiE/v-deo.html ). Cheers, and good luck with your future adventures! 😉👍 --QM

    You sure have a lot of persistence! I think I would have said NUTS! with that wind blowing like it was. Looking forward to your trip home comments!

      I finally had to throw in the towel late Sunday afternoon, because the wind kicked up to 40+ MPH and mashed my tent like a paper bag. Half of my aluminum tent stakes were destroyed... either bent over at 45-90 degrees, or sheared off at ground level. That wind had an attitude! I didn't suffer any major damage to the gear, though. I packed up and left Austin around 4:30 before the weather got any worse. --QM

      That was a cold, miserable trip. The following day went completely sideways with cold, wind, and rain. If I had known how it would end up, I might have skipped that outing. Oh well... as I always say... if there is no challenge or adventure, then it's just commuting. --QM

    Bonjour, j'aimerais savoir quel est votre consommation moyenne avec le Ryker ? Car chez Can-Am Le Mans ont m'a parlé de 10L/100 je trouve ça énorme !

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +1

      Bonjour! À l'heure actuelle, la consommation la plus basse que j'ai observée est de 7,59 L/100km (31 US mpg, 37 UK mpg) en moyenne sur l'autoroute. La consommation dans les rues de la ville est plus élevée car j'abuse de l'accélérateur et brûle trop le pneu arrière! --QM

      @@QuasiMotard merci beaucoup pour votre réponse.
      C'est assez élevé mine de rien ! Sur un roadtrip le budget carburant doit être assez conséquent

    Can you describe what bags you're using and how you connect them securely to the rack on back?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      Certainly! You can watch my video on the luggage mounting here: ua-cam.com/video/dCcTSgU5OrY/v-deo.html In short, I have the DrySpec D38 bag mounted on top of the Ryker's MAX mount with the D38's cam-buckle straps. The saddlebag consists of the Can-Am/BRP mount and the SHAD SH36 pannier. This was a temporary hack, and I hope to have a better mounting solution soon.
      The DrySpec D38 has multiple tie-down points, but there are 4 primary tie downs (one on each corner). The front two are tied to the MAX mount behind the front seat, and the saddlebag mount provides the third mounting point (right-rear corner). The last corner was tricky... I ran the last strap diagonally under the MAX mount and attached to the middle of the bag itself on the right side (you can see that briefly in the video). The pack would shift around a little bit over big bumps or fast corners, but it couldn't go very far... I was sitting back against it, which re-tensioned it to its rearmost position and tightened the straps again.
      Lastly, I put my GoPro backpack in another cheap drybag to protect it (and the contents) from the rain.
      That drybag was a cheapie from Amazon... can't remember the specific model or size. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help! --QM

    i dont mean to be rude but that camping area is just sad

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 роки тому

      Agreed! I was less than pleased with those accommodations, that's why I mentioned it in the previous video. The other "dry camping" area is on the opposite side of the track, but that was closed for this event. This is a race track and not a park, so the accommodations are thin even under ideal scenarios. 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard you seem to like camping you should watch some of Kent Survival on youtube. I enjoy his videos and I to plan on saving for a Ryker and have been watching a lot of videos

    • @QuasiMotard

      @@ExelArts Yes, I have watched many of his videos over the past few years. I started wild camping back in the early 80's when I was a young teen. I enjoy riding motorcycles anywhere/everywhere, so marrying motorcycles with camping (moto-camping) is just a natural fit for me. I've been taking these adventures regularly for over 35+ years, but I have only recently started recording my adventures to share with other like-minded people. I enjoy the "minimalist" challenge of motocamping... planning and taking everything that is needed to be fully self-sufficient for the duration of the journey. Cheers! 👍 --QM
