    I have learned tons of stuff from your videos in all regards, also this one(Thank you for sharing🙏🙏) . But after 2 years I have to add some small advice.
    The face on my yellow cap started chipping (managed to repair it though😉👍) making me believe that it has to be hit over the blade. Due to the anwill being hardened steel and there is a little give in tolerance between cap and guide.
    So my additional tip is to strike the cap over the blade, to avoid chipping of the cap.

      @slattergubben6702  Місяць тому +1

      @@userthor7386 chipping can unfortunately occur anyway. And I agree with you, but why would you hit the cap without a blades bevel in-between cap and anvil? It is of course stressing for both anvil and cap.

      @@slattergubben6702 because I tend to draw the hammer backwards when striking. Just some thing to be aware of😊 which I have become now😅

      @@userthor7386 ok, maybe its due to my English that I do nog get what you meant really. But your technique issues is certainly not connected to if you have a blade under the cap or not. Anyway hantering should be with a distinct downward hit so you can use the bounceback energy to level and rotate the hammer to the next strike. You can buy sparecaps from us www.slattergubben.se

    I couldn’t follow the spoken part, but I think this is the first video about this jig that is using the caps in the right order. Start with Yellow, finish with Red. Often people confuse the 1 (red) and 2 (yellow) rings on the cap as step 1 and step 2, which is not correct.

      Thanks, it's in the pipe to text it , or just make a new one. There is some things that can be added. Nowdays we form the shape of the caps ourselfs to have a uniqe shape of the caps that is the best one. And there is more to tell about peening with jigg.

      Hi, I am trying to figure out why this should work better than the other way round. First create a thin zone of lesser mechanical resistance at the edge, and then push more metal from behind ?

      Я думаю, что лучше было бы сделать штырь на наковальне прямоугольного сечения и соответственное отверствие в колпачке, придав ударной части колпачка нужную форму. Также хорошо было бы для большей устойчивости косы увеличить площадь наковальни. Например, выточить втулку такой же высоты, с отверстием немного большего диаметра, чем диаметр наковальни, чтобы одевать на наковальню, даже деревянную или пластмассовую, можно наружную сторону втулки сделать в виде эллипса.

    @slåttergubben - om det blir flera tunna sprickor i eggen, beror det på att jag knackar för mycket?

    • @slattergubben6702
      @slattergubben6702  11 місяців тому +2

      Kan ha flera orsaker, främst bladet självt. Så länge de inte lossnar i fyrkantiga flisor i för stor utsträckning så gör de inget. Annars fila/slipa ned o knacka om. Det felet de flesta gör är att knacka för lite o för sällan.

    Not all scythe blades can be peened to sharpen them.
    If you use a peening jig on a cast iron blade, parts of it will break off or it may shatter.

      Yes, in the past we used grinding scythe in the Nordic countries and they are still around. Some even still sold today. But according to me there is no new production of good grinding blades. A peened blade is much more tolerant for damages and is much much easier to hone.
