I am 55 years old South African Thankfully I was lucky enough to grow up in the early 70"S on Rodriguez. still know the whole of Cold Fact of by heart. I have had him in my life for 41 years I am the luckiest man because of this.
Well, in America we had Dylan. And I’m not a fan of Dylan. But, you know what? He made it anyway and S.Africa can claim him as theirs. It is what it is and was what it was. Better late than never. I saw Sixto as a “Universal Artist” than somebody as a regional or states thing.
It's not only this man's voice that is captivating. It's his soul. There's deeper meaning to this man's giant spirit than any group of 50 other people combined. Most will never have the great honor to encounter a person like Rodriguez in a whole lifetime. A great big invisible beautiful soul, fully personified. We can see it. We can hear it. Some people will get the chance to hug it. Thank God they found it. Congratulations Sr. Rodriguez. As you said yourself, "Better late than never".
I thought I had found the last of my heroes back in the 90's as a teen... So ecstatic to find a new one! This 'artist', although a bit late being recognized, deserves every spotlight, smile and imitator he has long awaited! Cheers, Mr. Rodriguez!
Chris - Kurt was briefly high up on my list in 91 or so. I was really always more into Metal ie. Slayer, King Diamond etc. and once I felt that grunge kind of squashed the metal scene, I lost interest in Nirvana and a lot of the other Seattle bands.
His story tells us that real talent will just never remain unseen and will get the recognition it deserve however hard and winding and long the way. Genius is not be enough a word for that man. I believe he's a Angel.
Heard this in a record shop in Portsmouth a few weeks ago so bought it, just watched the Film. So sad that we didn't really have him all these years and if he had been picked up in the early seventies what other great songs would he have written. Somebody got some money from his record sales though, wonder where that went? a great man and modest too, with a nice family.
I remember sugarman from the early seventies, with proper management he could have had success many years ago. With a music and a story like this and a talented man so humble it really restores my faith in humanity
I heard Rodriguez all the time growing up in johannesburg, poor kids today get to listen to bieber.... South africans appreciated the mans message, and it brought his atttitude to life across, you will never get it america. even if you appreciate it now.... you will just never get it.
Extraordinary talent. Quite literally, only Sixto Rodriguez & the late Nick Drake have this degree of sensitivity within their lyrics. It really _is_ poetry in disguise.
Absolutely brilliant. From Salamanca Spain, que siga viva tu voz maestro eres un ejemplo por toda la gente humilde y creadora frente al establishment conformista. THANK YOU,
I found Mr Rodriguez after the documentary. After that I can't hear his music without water filling in my eyes. It just feels sad and happy at the same time.
What do you say, that all you lovely people haven't said already, I'm only a few years younger than SIXTO . I've cried and raged, about what was not done for him and his music . But in the end I feel blessed to be able to have something that fills my heart to near bursting with feeling .
Everytime I hear his music and also see comments from his fans, it really makes me happy. His life story gives everyone hope to believe in ourselves and in what we do with our life. Great songs and lyrics. Really a classic!
Une chanson cristalline ,tombée du ciel. En écrins des cordes. Légère des échos. A l'inspiration composée.
one of the best days in so so many moons, when I watched the autobiography of Searching for Sugarman Rodriguez!!! love LOVE his musical talents!! His poetry is more powerful than Bob Dylan!!!!:-):-)
If this garbage world hadn't crucified our souls, Sixto Rodriguez would have been the Greatest Hero we've ever known. I can't listen to Him without crying.
You are right and I believe the same, plus the world was not ready for a Mexican American who could write lyrics better than Dylan and Donovan together!
Bouleversant. La magie au coin du ruisseau, ses contours de rues, sous frissons. Jusqu'à l'échine parcourue. S'abreuver de la virtuosité en musique. L'espace d'une chanson. Atteindre le cosmos.
look at the documentry searching for sugar man. he just seems to be a cool man on this earth and sings about his experinces and toughts of life ,glad i found him.
Ivan Ne,l while we may not get it, the same way you do, I for one appreciate it that South Africa got it and now have shared him with the rest of the world. And I am incredibly grateful he now knows he is appreciated! He is amazing!
Holy mackeral. You're absolutely right. Sixto and Neil 'do' sing somewhat alike. I could definitely hear Neil singing this song too. But in all due respect to Neil (who I have seen in concert) I don't want to hear Neil sing this one. This is Sixto's song. He wrote it. He owns it. It almost seems like it would be a sacrilege for anybody else to even try to cover it now that Sixto has be "re-found". He deserves to bathe in his own thunder if you know what I mean. Anyway, good ear there.

Genius❤
This man is freedom, genius and courage combined. Hero.
Humble, gracious lovely human being.
I love this song!!! What a gifted musician, composer and singer!!! Shame USA did not recognize him in the 70´s. You missed him all these years.

this song is simply beautiful.

Love you Sixto. My heart is with you. I feel, at 66 I've known you forever. My favorite from your first. True legend.
I'm 54 and discovering him on a fluke. I love finding great artists that are new to me. Totally original and unique - honest voice and vivid lyrics.
I thought I had found the last of my heroes back in the 90's as a teen... So ecstatic to find a new one! This 'artist', although a bit late being recognized, deserves every spotlight, smile and imitator he has long awaited! Cheers, Mr. Rodriguez!

does not matter what i say, i cant express how awesome i think this man is
A one of a kind, just a true national treasure.
His story tells us that real talent will just never remain unseen and will get the recognition it deserve however hard and winding and long the way. Genius is not be enough a word for that man. I believe he's a Angel.
My favourite Rodriguez song.
He's the wise man , humble in crafting his art.

How beautiful! His songs make me cry (in a good way)!
Our Band does this tune and it always gets a Great reaction beautiful Tune Right on Sixto Rodriguez
Awesome!! The more you hear the song the more you like it. Rodriguez is The Man!!!
Listened to Rodriguez when I was in the army 1990. Very memorable times indeed.
I love how modest he is at the end. He wants to get the other guitarist to take front stage and is shy when they applaud.
100 % ❤❤❤
This man is freedom, genius and courage combined. Hero.
Humble, gracious lovely human being.
Sixto !!! Thank You for your life and Harts

Ivan Nel We loved him in SA & the poor guy didn't even know how famous he was here while others profited off him.
Extraordinary talent. Quite literally, only Sixto Rodriguez & the late Nick Drake have this degree of sensitivity within their lyrics. It really _is_ poetry in disguise.

I feel the same. Something about his voice and music that just gets in your soul.
WONDERFUL SPECIAL TALENT -SO sad he is gone RIP
His genes, his story, his words, his music.
Poor people around the world had a poet singing for them
I`m still listening to Sugar Man today.

..un artista che meriterebbe molto di più...un cantante che rimarrà nella storia.....bravissimo...
Feel so gutted no one ever played this to me!! But not supprised! 🤔😔Gonna listen all night and for the rest of the time I'm breathing 💓
Same!! Great documentary and a fantastic artist and human being.
R.I.P. Sixto.
Australia always loved him. He toured in the 70s. He is mesmerising.
"But how much of it is repetition, that you didn't whisper to him too?"
❤

In the navy in south africa in 1988 we would sit around and discuss how rodriguez died. Never thought then, that id get to see him live twice.
Fantastic.

Amazing
Rodrguez moves me deeply
He's great!
O happy day! We found him! Alive and now thriving. But all those years lost; what a touching story.
I noticed in the interview segment, Jimmy Page is sitting in the background. I wonder what he thought of Rodriguez?
Most musicians respect one another, Rodriguez seems to be a chill-out guy.
THANK YOU, SIXTO!
look at the documentry searching for sugar man. he just seems to be a cool man on this earth and sings about his experinces and toughts of life ,glad i found him.
Rip beautiful man

This man and his writing just emphasises how important the sixties were... it's a shame for me, a baby of '84

Thank God, South Africa, new talent. Shame on the U.S. for over looking.
Легенда !
Powerful song.
Another star perfomer of the time who never got the recognition was Terry Reid. I hope he gets noticed one day.
Fantastic sounds like a mix of BOB Dylan and supertramp
