Sticky rice and jeow are like bread and butter, love that comparison.

In Lao its Jeow, in Malaysia, Indonesia, Southern Thailand, Singapore and Brunei we call it SAMBAL. We must have sambal in every meal for us in all these country.

Bangladeshis call these things bhorta/mash literal translation.
We make bhorta out of everything, potatoes, spinach, dried fish, chillies, tamarind, green mangoes, cucumbers, tomatoes etc. When i came across your channel i was curious about this particular dish i saw on a short.
Now i see that bc its so similar to what we eat culturally, i recognized it.
Looks great and less and less people and younger gen have a preference for it i guess. But i love it.

I love Lao jeow! There are so many different varieties and flavors. With a Burmese meal a staple is either ngapi taung (roasted shrimp paste & chili pounded with shallot) or ngapi yay (boiled raw fermented fish with roasted garlic & green chili). I think you would like them. That have similar taste to some Lao flavors. We always eat them with an assortment of fresh or steamed veggies & herbs on the side. Like you I could just eat rice, nagpi and veggies.

Same in Malaysia, we call it Sambal Belacan, we used shrimp paste too and many other stuff including roasted fish, anchovies or any fruits, onions, gralic and many more.

I wish I can eat my food the authentic way again 😭 but cus of my gerd I can't have most of our ingredients: garlic, shallots, onion, chili, tomato, lime, tamarind, mint etc.
