    Thank you, Saeng. I appreciate your detailed explanation of the original name "jeow som" and its origins. It's frustrating how Lao contributions, like thum mak hoong and laab, are often credited to Thailand or Cambodia instead. No hate to our neighbor countries 😊

    Omg I eat this w chicken from soup try it w hard boiled egg 🥚 n rice lol . We use this for our oysters 🦪 even ballut? (Duck eggs) I had no idea what the name is … I’m 37 and had no idea . my mom came back from California temple there’s a big event that happens there March of every year . And of course now we got lao new year coming but she brought back some the red red one BONG I’m not sure how to spell but you know what one I’m talking about . I came here to learn how to make the Kanom KHUU is it ? The Chinese donut 🍩??? My mom Chinese but born in Laos raised in Laos she’s from Laos but don’t even know the name of some the Kanoms like the kanom dok BUa the lotus flower dip in flour and fried candy . She never know how to tell me what it was . My dad is lao real lao from lao from military from city family

    I've been pronouncing it wrong this whole time 😂 TBH I've never heard anyone around me call it crack sauce. It must be a demographic thing or whoever is selling it, renamed it to make it seem more interesting.

      Dude, I was adopted... community, heritage and or culture are just words...and as a mix of all the above being a first generation American (Naturalized) this is Crack Sauce for sure! (Along with many other sauces here in America). Thanks for the video, but nomenclature and jargon...dude, it's crack sauce.

    I think we started calling it cracc sauce cuz we never had an English word for the sauce. Im Cambodian and we make the same sauce but we call it fish sauce dip(idk what other Cambodians call it). If I were to guess y they call it "cracc sauce" is because it is addictive, and spicy which like cracc meaning its dangerous lol

      Cambodian here also, we call it cracc sauce in the hood cus sh*ts hella addictive na mean. But our version we add MSG and Lime and i guess Cilantro is optional since most of time I don't see it in the sauce. It's called Thuk Trey Koh Kong in khmer. Very common Cambodian household dipping sauce since it hella good with like everything

    Unfortunately common 'names' are not static, they're dynamic because they change with time for many reasons, mostly from generation to generation. For example, salsa cruda and pico de gallo are the same thing where the former name has slowly over time replaced the pico de gallo name. Language moves.

    People can call it whatever they want. Don’t act like you’re better than the next man. That sauce isn’t just a Lao sauce when most of Southeast Asia has a similar sauce. It literally has nothing to with drug addiction.
