Hr can't even pronun the words correctly he shouldn't be saying these stuff about my people's food, the Lao people are 100% happy about the sauce being shared and have nick name
Omg, I loved you in the first 3 seconds! Thank you for explaining that saying “crack” for fun isn’t fun and addressing culture erasure. You’re amazing!
I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. I know many who don't have a problem with others nicknaming or renaming things because for them personally there is no harm.
Thank you, Saeng. I appreciate your detailed explanation of the original name "jeow som" and its origins. It's frustrating how Lao contributions, like thum mak hoong and laab, are often credited to Thailand or Cambodia instead. No hate to our neighbor countries 😊 I'm just so THAI-erd of hearing it!
I think if you try it counts, but if you blatantly pronounce it something like "JOW SOME" Atleast that's what I hope, cause I can't say it completely right 😅

I’m assuming this is some viral Tik tok cooking thing, I haven’t seen it myself, so seeing your videos first will remind me of it’s important heritage and IF it does now pop up on my feed, I hopefully can educate someone else like you did me :)
Omg I eat this w chicken from soup try it w hard boiled egg 🥚 n rice lol . We use this for our oysters 🦪 even ballut? (Duck eggs) I had no idea what the name is … I’m 37 and had no idea . my mom came back from California temple there’s a big event that happens there March of every year . And of course now we got lao new year coming but she brought back some the red red one BONG I’m not sure how to spell but you know what one I’m talking about . I came here to learn how to make the Kanom KHUU is it ? The Chinese donut 🍩??? My mom Chinese but born in Laos raised in Laos she’s from Laos but don’t even know the name of some the Kanoms like the kanom dok BUa the lotus flower dip in flour and fried candy . She never know how to tell me what it was . My dad is lao real lao from lao from military from city family
@@PandaHead602 Is it a different name when you make it with lime? Because Cambodians make the same sauce but with lime and depending on your mom's preference no fish sauce.
One time for my bday my grandma made me an half gal jar of this lol cause I literally inhale this stuff. I always try making jeow in my own but it’s not the same
I've been pronouncing it wrong this whole time 😂 TBH I've never heard anyone around me call it crack sauce. It must be a demographic thing or whoever is selling it, renamed it to make it seem more interesting.
Dude, I was adopted... community, heritage and or culture are just words...and as a mix of all the above being a first generation American (Naturalized) this is Crack Sauce for sure! (Along with many other sauces here in America). Thanks for the video, but nomenclature and jargon...dude, it's crack sauce.
Lol when I saw someone bottle n sell it calling it crack sauce on the bottle I thought that’s strangest thing because crack sauce already exist I seen it in the south first . Unless u say Lao crack sauce …. Maybe but still then long down the line ppl will forget what this really is called
I think we started calling it cracc sauce cuz we never had an English word for the sauce. Im Cambodian and we make the same sauce but we call it fish sauce dip(idk what other Cambodians call it). If I were to guess y they call it "cracc sauce" is because it is addictive, and spicy which like cracc meaning its dangerous lol
Cambodian here also, we call it cracc sauce in the hood cus sh*ts hella addictive na mean. But our version we add MSG and Lime and i guess Cilantro is optional since most of time I don't see it in the sauce. It's called Thuk Trey Koh Kong in khmer. Very common Cambodian household dipping sauce since it hella good with like everything
Thinking a little too much into it lol. Obviously you want to pay tribute to its original origins but let’s not get too crazy. This is coming from someone who’s struggled with addiction
I think your over thinking it dude. I'm an addict and the issue does not lie here in any way. So so so silly. Call crap what ever you want it's still crap. My spin on a Shakespeare line.... So because of this video I'm going to call this fetty juice. This is just so so so so silly. I can't stand this culture that forces people to feel like they need to walk on egg shells.

even things intended as a compliment can have a negative impact. calling it crack sauce means people don't know what it actually is or where it came from and have no way of looking it up if they'd like to find out
Unfortunately common 'names' are not static, they're dynamic because they change with time for many reasons, mostly from generation to generation. For example, salsa cruda and pico de gallo are the same thing where the former name has slowly over time replaced the pico de gallo name. Language moves.
I thought that he was going to taste it at the end and be like “damn this crack”, lmao! But in all seriousness, people are way too sensitive know a days. You even have to be Pc when you refer to the food. Growing up we used to say something is so good it makes you want to smack your mother. Now I’m expecting someone to do a video talking about how that just highlights domestic violence…good lord!
I see where you are coming from however, this seems a bit too sensitive coming from a man’s mouth. The way I see it (which may not be important to most) is that if YOUR people still consume, enjoy, and pronounce the sauce properly then then it can never be minimized.
People can call it whatever they want. Don’t act like you’re better than the next man. That sauce isn’t just a Lao sauce when most of Southeast Asia has a similar sauce. It literally has nothing to with drug addiction.
I agree 100% don't change the name, use their proper names to show appreciation to the culture.
It's crack sauce.. these old heads need to shut their mouth
