- Another blog in the world that is MK1 Focuses... this time just a brief look at programming a key to the GEM central locking module, the immobiliser and key blade itself.

Thanks I found this video helpful as I recently bought a Focus and two of the central locking microswitches on the key fob don't work. I bought a new 3-button key and programmed the central locking on th new key using your video. What I didn't fully appreciate is the procedure only fixes the central locking, not the engine immobilser, so the new key won't start the car.
Just want to stress this point for anyone else who might think the "turn the key four times" process will mean your new key starts the car, as it won't.
I will say thats the most confusing aspect of this, people think that this procedure does both jobs when it isnt. You have two tasks, programme the circuit board in the fob to the GEM module for the central locking and then programming the chip in the fob to the immobiliser!
4:50 Your fuel pump must love that ! 🤣🤣
This is interesting matter! My 1.6 has only one key (with fob). My scrap 1.4 has three original keys: two with the fob and one plain key. All three have an immobilizer chip. I'm planning on switching the whole lot over. Cylinders and GEM.
From what I've read, the immobilizer chips need to be programmed into the ECU.
PS; It passed MOT with zero remarks! And Ford still has a small stock of those vacuum-lines. €38 VAT included.
That's a lot of keys!! Yes they do need programming to the ecu! We'll done you must be pleased :)
I just program the key fob for a ford fiesta 2011 and it work perfectly fine with this instructions.
I'm glad it worked its very easy once you know :)
I did it with a Ford Mondeo key after a battery change and the key works perfectly again after the first try programming. Thanks for this video 👍
Brilliant I'm glad this worked! Exactly same system.
Hello! Thanks for the video, it worked first try! I was wondering if maybe you could tell me if the Focus MK1 has any other way to lock the doors, besides the key remote. Mine doesn't seem to have in the console a dedicated button for this. Thanks!
no problem I'm glad it worked, there's no button on the console on a mk1, its part of the drivers interior door handle, by the door handle there's a button with LOCK written on it, sometimes the writing wears away. That will activate the central locking and all doors should lock, the drivers door being the master control
Yes it dose work my circular board broken key still works
to start the car?
Does the immobilizer work after you program the key yourself like you did in the video?
no it needs pairing to the cars immobiliser chip, that's a key specialist job who has the correct equipment!
This was just to sync the key to the central locking!
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Ok got it appreciate that
On my Mk1 if you use the key on passenger door, all doors will lock and unlock but with drivers door key all doors work except the passenger, same with the fob. If passenger door is not locked from the inside then using fob or drivers door key the rears and drivers lock and unlock straight away. I've cleaned the door connector looms. Not sure if the problem is in the drivers door actuator or the passenger, any ideas?
door actuator 100% if that is the only one not reacting!
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Thanks for the reply, still unsure which of the front doors though, they both work to some extent. Also I have a battery drain, get a spark when connecting battery up, and a clunk sound from rear passenger door when I connect battery.
I did this and now my key won’t even start the car, luckily I have a spare key but it doesn’t have any of the locking functions on it. I noticed my key wouldn’t lock or unlock the car, so we got a new shell and tried to connect it. Made the beep noise but still didn’t lock or unlock and now won’t even start the engine. Anyone have any idea what’s happened here?
That points to a GEM fault or the electronics in the fob usually failing. If it beeps then I'd point to the fob. It may be a new shell but is it new electronics inside?
Hello, i did it a few years ago, but now, after no longer being able to open the doors with remote control, I can't get the beep, I've tried every way, I even disconnected the battery for 1 day. Any ideas? What I can do? Thanks
I had this problem turned out the drivers door latch switch had broken!
@@usuallyfixingtinkering Should I buy this part 5WK47230B? My car is not enter into programming mode.
what part is it?
@@usuallyfixingtinkering CENTRAL LOCKING & ALARM SYSTEM MODULE FORD
it should be entering programming mode, it sounds like the fob is not communicating sounds like the circuit board may be the issue. You may have to get a 2nd hand fob and try that!
My car only came with one key. Obviously I’d like a spare but my local Ford dealer told me they are the only ones who could program me a new one (I’m sceptical!). He quoted me over £300 for the privilege. Anyone else had a similar situation?
Wrong auto locksmiths will have the same equipment and probably half the cost of £300
@@usuallyfixingtinkering, Cheers Andrew. That’s exactly as I thought.
no problem!
