Rock (at least in the beginning) was just blues played by white kids. That's what made it more acceptable to 1950's America. A huge portion of Zeppelin's songs are either covers of, or borrow heavily from pre-existing blues songs. If it wasn't for liking Zeppelin as a teenager I'd have never been inspired to find their influences and appreciate blues artists for what they gave the world. It's also hard to look back and see the way the genres were segregated unfairly and the way black artists were never fully appreciated in their time.
Fun fact: When John Bonham died, the band was like, "Fuck it. We out." and immediately broke up. But what was Led Zep drinking when they made that song? Mississippi Delta blues water.
That's, in essence , what they said, " it over." In 1980, when Bonham died, they had been making albums & touring heavily for 11 years. They had already more than made their mark, the first band to sell more albums than the Beatles, in 1969. And the same lineup the whole time. Like the Beatles, a new member in such an iconic band would have never worked, for the band OR the fans. Cultured as they may have been, Jimmy Page would have considered it high praise, indeed, to say, " we out." Btw, l had some dealings with their road manager, Richard Cole. He was a rascist little bitch, punk ass motherfucker. As it turned out, the band didn't like his punk ass much either. During what would become the film, Song Remains the Same, tens of thousands of dollars were stolen, in cash, out of the hotel safe. Guess who the fuck they suspected... that's right, Richard punk ass Cole.
@@12bar145ne Surprised Peter Grant (Zeppelins' great manager) didn't break every bone in Cole's body if that's true. Cole worked directly for Grant. Grant was paid 20% of Zeppelin's earnings (by his own admission) out of which he paid Cole out of his own pocket as road manager. Grant was the best manager in the business, had managed The Yardbirds before Zeppelin, which was why he and Jimmy Page were so close, and was one tough mother******. He negotiated, what was for that time, the highest advance ever given a band by a record company with Atlantic records. Zeppelin stayed with Atlantic their entire career.
This is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. It feels like the currents of the song are taking you over the river. And then you go down over the Levee underwater and drown. The instrumentals are incredible.

So effing true. Loved Zep for over 50 yrs. and still counting. I've heard Led Zep on all forms of media storage mankind has had since late 1950's. Digital makes them immortal. Almost.

When this came out I was in high school and I knew it the moment I heard it that this was something that only comes along once....... You are on it now. Rock on friend, you have found it now. The top of the heap.
Jeff Libby This Guy knows how to react to a song to the fullest...which I like. There’s another reactor on UA-cam that doesn’t know how to react to a song.
This song is sort of a "half-cover", kind of like Rage Against the Machine's version of "The Ghost of Tom Joad". The lyrics are covered from the Memphis Minnie/Joe McCoy song (with some additional lines added in by Plant and Page), while the music is original to Led Zeppelin.
I love the unbridled joy and enthusiasm in your reactions! - When you react to these classic rock pieces, it makes me feel like I'm hearing them for the first time (and I grew up listening to them)! Rob Soergel He has no clue who Jimmy Page is though lol
@@noahbrown9708 he does now
Zeppelin is just out of this world....at another level that cannot be measured.... like voodoo...
thank you for this accurate reaction.
Yeah...Led Zeppelin "In my time of dying" for sure!
Love the live version of "In my time of dying" it's a song from the deep South of Merica, would you believe.
Love the (live) version of "In my time of dying" it's a song from the deep South of Merica. Would you believe?
Hahahaha! I love this guy! "Even if it's not a harmonica, it's a harmonica today!"
Shaq hands down the best reaction channel. His energy and love for all kinds of music. Keep it up bro.
He falls into it 100%
SHAQ WOULD YOU LOOK UP ERIC GALES GIMI MY JIMI FIX AMAZING GUITAR PLAYING BY A BROTHER
Yes ,, you the man shag. We loving you in Lagrange Ga.
Not by a country mile. He’s way behind the others and reviews songs months after the others have already done them.
@@MegaArchiebald Then why are you on his channel?
This is one of my favorite reactions of yours. You are truly jamming out and it makes me appreciate this song even more too!
Led Zeppelin STEEPED themselves in roots American Blues. They recreated the Blues by combining it with Rock, Heavy Metal and English Folk. AWESOME!
They’ve even used lyrics and title from a song written by delta blues artists from the 20´s (written by Kansas Joe McCoy and sang by memphis Minnie his wife)
I'm a simple man. I see Led Zeppelin and NoShaq, I click.
Damn right!
THIS
it really says something of John B's drumming. when a newbie hears it and can tell this guy must be the shit..
Close your eyes and you can almost hear the rain beating down incessantly, pure musical gold from the greatest band ever!!
And bonham is the thunder
"Kashmir"/ "Since I've Been Loving You" / "Heartbreaker" / " No Quarter" 🔥💥🔥🎸🙏
@Jamie ASHCROFT more cowbells 😅
Bro Heartbreaker is the reason for so many people learning the guitar. Took me years to figure out how he did them dives without a whammy bar.
ya i like the live version of No Quarter from the 2007 Celebration Day reunion concert!! do that one!
Robert Plant on harmonica
I recommend holding off on Kashmir for a bit. May not be ready for it yet. Since I've Been Loving You and In My Time of Dying next. ALSO, TREAT YOURSELF TO MOBY DICK - it is all about John Bonham
Beethoven - Symphony Number 9, 2nd Movement
exciting classical music, part of his last and greatest symphony, he wrote it while he was deaf
Great musical piece but watching a reaction would definitely be something new
4th movement is better
Beethoven- Moonlight Senota
@@TheBlackQueen It's too long and I feel like there are more slow / boring parts, but it is very good! I like 2nd Movement better
Thon Bushcraft Slow? Do you not recall the epic high choir hymns of Ode To Joy? Literally one of the greatest moments in music history!
HARMONICA courtesy of the singer.. the incomparable Robert Plant ❤
Absolutely
Exactly we were young in them days 💚💜 63 and still in love with Led -Zeplin. 💖
Marie Theresa Hughes Im 56 years old 🤘
Harmonica is double or triple tracked on this. But classic, no complaints!
Brian May called him incomparable in Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
That opening drum riff is iconic
I adore watching you experience this great music!! I'd love to see your reaction to Led Zeppelin "Kashmir"!!! Great song!!
Yes needs to do that one!
Only question I have is which version?
@@livinaftermidnight9651 live would be my preference! But I'd take studio too.
@@bobbilowery2975 live is my preferred as well. Jason Bonham does an outstanding job on this song on Celebration Day.
@@livinaftermidnight9651 I totally agree!! He makes his Father proud, if he can see it!! (Not sure how I feel about the after life thing)
I like how shaq can jam to anything, even if he isn’t used to it.
Me too, I respect that about him
Zeppelin probably has about 50 great songs... enjoy the journey.
Every song of theirs is great.
Shame on both of you
M S who said that?
“You hate Ben so you must love Obama!”
Great logic
M S it’s not a liberal conservative thing. Good people with common sense don’t listen to Shapiro because he promotes fascism and extreme right wing ideology. On top of that, he lacks any sympathy whatsoever. Obama was a war criminal
M S are you kidding? He has repeatedly called for repeal of the ACA, denies climate change, wants to overturn roe vs wade, and has been on record saying he doesn’t care if innocent Muslim civilians are killed in the West Bank by Israeli soldiers. The man is a fascist. Do a little research
That’s Robert Plant the lead singer playing the harmonica
Zep didn't write, "When the Levee Breaks". That is why you'll never get a copyright complaint from their studio. It's an old Delta Blues song.
I have always loved Led Zeppelin, but I think this video reminds me of that first time I heard a song like this as a kid. I can feel the enthusiasm!!
Robert Plant vocals and harmonica Jimmy Page guitars John Paul Jones Bass the legendary John (bonzo) Bonham on drums!!!!!!

You would 100% love Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love
Hey guys really. I think it's too early for that ... I mean, he just got crazy about the harmonica in this song. Who explains the Theremin to him? He needs a bit more experience so that his brain does not burst😉
stephenc44 would love it if he did The Rover aswell
I love led Zeppelin... But for some reason I absolutely cannot stand the constantly repeating sound in that song.
It seems to drive me mad.
trampled under foot
I can't imagine life without The Mighty Zep. Glad you liked it Shaq, you're the best 😘💕
600K HOLY SHIT! CONGRATS!
I have always loved this song beyond words. But this might be the most fun I ever had listening to it. That's tough✌
My fave Zeppelin song. Rock was influenced greatly by the Blues and this song is a testament to that. Great reaction as always
Ro Tru when the blues had a baby she called it rock & roll, peace & love
Mine too. The grove in this song is so juicy. So bluesy & soulful!
@@revkenwiz that's exactly it!
As a zep fan from day one, from their first album, this is my favorite song also. OSH :-)
My all time favorite Zeppelin song. It's so bluesy & soulful. That grove I mean.. Lawrd have mercy. I love your reactions they're the best!! 🖤
"Recorded it next to a campfire" killed me! LMFAO!
Fun fact: When John Bonham died, the band was like, "Fuck it. We out." and immediately broke up.
But what was Led Zep drinking when they made that song? Mississippi Delta blues water.
They we a cultured, educated band. No way their parting phrase was
“We out”
That's, in essence , what they said, " it over." In 1980, when Bonham died, they had been making albums & touring heavily for 11 years.
@@12bar145ne
Surprised Peter Grant (Zeppelins' great manager) didn't break every bone in Cole's body if that's true.
It’s a cover song 1929 by Memphis Minnie and Kansas bob
Kansas joe
And the fact that this song was released in 1971 makes it even more incredible to me.
Mottahead 71 baby 🥰
Misty Mountain Hop & Black Dog Led Zep. Congrats on 600k
This is my favorite Led Zeppelin song. It feels like the currents of the song are taking you over the river. And then you go down over the Levee underwater and drown. The instrumentals are incredible.
There are a bunch of people on UA-cam trying to do what you do, Shaq. They all fall short. You are the best. You are equal parts hilarious, insightful, open-minded, smart, and just downright entertaining. Dat's tuff! Love ya, my guy!
Fun to see reaction to something we've heard thousands of times.. Am I right?
So effing true. Loved Zep for over 50 yrs. and still counting. I've heard Led Zep on all forms of media storage mankind has had since late 1950's. Digital makes them immortal. Almost.
Know and love
So true!
Led Zep is the best four musicians that ever gathered in one band. Been other great bands too for sure but those four dudes were all over the absolute top of the heap. When this came out I was in high school and I knew it the moment I heard it that this was something that only comes along once....... You are on it now. Rock on friend, you have found it now. The top of the heap.
Damn, Shaq you got me smiling and feeling blessed to have been raised on LED Zep. Love watching you and truly believe you are making the world better
I love how grimy this tune is, it's a grindin kinda grove, it's nasty and pushin....Bonham keeps it pushin like he's the dope man.....
I think if Bonham could speak to us from Heaven he'd say "Keep sampling me, and I'm still drunk."
Word
I agree brother, Bonham bangs it home, liberal
This drum beat has been sampled on so many hip hop songs I know you recognize it my guy.
Ramble on by Led Zeppelin. Love watching you’re reaction and interpretations on classic rock songs.
Zeppelin “In my time of dying” and Since I’ve been loving you”!
Anything they did really!
Coming back at least once a year to watch this. My fiery favorite reaction to my favorite song. Go Shaq!
🤣😂🤣 right from the jump!! ❤ I couldn't wait for that harmonica to drop.
Shaq discovering Zeppelin is like opening presents on Christmas morning, something we've taken for granted for years.
British super band Led Zepplin meets the Mississippi Delta Blues!
Exactly!
Meets Shaq's brain, causing visual aneurysm.
Anyone else cracking up when he says Leevee 😂😂

I'd love to listen to Zep with this guy... he's f*cken hilarious
Ikr??? Lol
I'd love to listen to *any* music with him.
Jeff Libby This Guy knows how to react to a song to the fullest...which I like. There’s another reactor on UA-cam that doesn’t know how to react to a song.
An idea: Have an on-screen audience
It’s a Harmonica today😂
This was a blues song originally written in the 1920s
Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy
This song is sort of a "half-cover", kind of like Rage Against the Machine's version of "The Ghost of Tom Joad". The lyrics are covered from the Memphis Minnie/Joe McCoy song (with some additional lines added in by Plant and Page), while the music is original to Led Zeppelin.
And perfected in 1971.
Watching this guy get off on good rock and metal makes me happy every time I watch him...Always makes me smile.
I love the unbridled joy and enthusiasm in your reactions! - When you react to these classic rock pieces, it makes me feel like I'm hearing them for the first time (and I grew up listening to them)! Your genuine curiosity and open-mindedness about music is inspiring. I'm so glad I found you; thanks for letting this middle-aged white lady relive her wild past through you!
