One of EVH's biggest inspirations was Eric Clapton's fast blues soloing on Cream's cover of "Crossroads." The blues is still in there, you just have to squint a little to see it. ;)
I am man... Bruh fuck 2020, like fr. We been losin' the best of us for a while now. I'm sad to say this, but this makes Eddie just the next hella famous person to die tragically. It's a damn shame that this has become a trend lately (Kobe, Stan Lee, Karl Steffanson, etc.), but that's the way things are shaping up for us it looks like.
I’ve... listened to this solo like 10+ times in the last 3 days... I passed up a chance to see Van Halen for free in 2004, because I was on a drumline and had a half-time field show to perform that night. I played 5th bass. If I was playing snare that season... I may have ditched. But playing on the Bass Line, 5th bass drum-if your are missing any bassdrum it’s like you are missing a finger while playing guitar... So... I didn’t take the last minute invite from my BF to see Van Halen in late 2004. Also...-I DID not want to get chewed out by my percussion instructor, a former member of the Blue Devils Drum Corp., whom I respected Ed immensely, and always will... But especially with this weeks tragic news regarding Eddie... and me reflecting on how I was ultimately, unexpectedly (renditioned by “escorts,” in the middle of the night [and not the type that sex you... :-/] ) and then sent to an “Elan”-type school owned by WAASP in La Verkin, Utah-just weeks after having turned down that last minute invitation to a Van Halen concert in 2004, having no idea I would be in an overpriced, fraudulent, “behavioral modification center” for teens just weeks after-literally taken in the middle of the night, early on a Wednesday morning-with 20/20 hindsight I wish I had made myself regurgitate lunch, feigned a stomach bug, and had my friend pick me up... sigh... (c” ತ,_ತ) Edit: Likely considered to be “depressing details” added. RIP Eddie.
Eddie said it best “I’m just a punk kid with a guitar!” He just so happened to have a father and a mother that had music playing at all times…Eddie loved classical which is why you’re hearing all the classical pieces he plays!!!! Welcome to the club!!!
I showed this to my dad before he died and he said, "Now I get the whole Van Halen appreciation thing you have." My dad couldn't believe it when I told him that EVH was a Glen Campbell fan and they were friends. GC was father's favorite. Odd that the circle keeps coming around. RIP GC & EVH!
Hammer-ons, Pull-offs, arpeggios, pinch harmonics, echo, reverb and a shit ton of overdrive and distortion... plus the hottest pick-ups on earth. ‘‘Tis the sound of Eddie Van Halen
It’s unbelievable to hear other bands at the same time it seems like decades ahead of 70s-80s music. Though Eddie isn’t up there on my top 3, he gets my respect.
Raging Repak It depends.. if we are talking innovative,, yeah Hendrix, Eddie. If we’re talking my favorites... the list is different. I’d have Alex Lifeson up near the top. It’s so hard to rate guitarist because some may not be technical, but have amazing feeling , some are a good blend of technical and feeling. Some are just unique (Brian May) so, I find it hard to pick favorites. I just love guitar.
It was in that moment that Shaq awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan, gaining the ability to see his viewers through his cam, and it was all from the sheer trauma of witnessing the absolute beastly God of a guitarist, the one known as Eddie Van Halen, go ham on (or as Shaq himself would put it, "rape") his beloved axe. Dats Tuff.
For VH, Hot for Teacher's a good one, I always liked Cabo Wabo, 5150, Black and Blue etc as well, for less 'popular' songs that never got enough play or respect
if only you could realize the contradiction in your own statement. do you really think a person who is always positive is being genuine? You really think that? you don't think it has anything to do with the fact that social blade says he makes between somewhere between 65K and 1.1 million dollars a year pretending to like everything as a full time job? Imagine if instead of going to an office 40 hours a week, you could do whatever you want, but you have to pretend you enjoy a few music videos a day. Use your brain.
Nega_Weeb dude 65k to 1.1 million is a HUMONGOUS range. How in the fuck is that “social blade” thing accurate 😂 and also, he isn’t always positive in every song. The mumble rap songs he gets bored and tears them apart, and sometimes he gets disappointed when an artist didn’t perform to their potential. So how is he pretending to like a couple songs a day when he occasionally doesn’t like something? His job is basically being a comedian with a camera, so when he hears trash instead of saying what he feels, which is that it’s trash, he will crack a joke, which keeps the lighthearted tone of his videos. And why would someone pretend to like something that is actually good, such as this guitar solo. If u genuinely don’t like this, you aren’t the type of person who wouldn’t enjoy the time it takes to edit these videos, upload them, keep up with your fans in the comments and social media, and sometimes even collab with other content creators. Yeah, pretending. Use ur brain before u criticize others for not using theirs.
I mean it was more blues than anything, it was just really fast. Some of it was classical probably because of Eddie being classically trained on piano when he was young
A lot of people don’t understand the value of a classically trainee musician. This is proof that classical music is a-freaking-mazing and absolutely still has value.

I’ve watched this one about ten thousand times and your reaction video is by far the best I’ve ever seen…the walk away at the end is perfect…love from Texas
Haha See that's where I would disagree. Clapton, Beck, Gikmour...they make love. EVH...that is sheer abuse.hahaha My God no one makes a guitar sound like EDDIE!!! He is the KING!!!
From a technical stand point, and how the guitar works, it's just a series of hammer ons and pull offs to force the string to vibrate to register the vibration on the pick ups on the guitar. From a practical stand point; we still can't figure out how Eddie Van Halen did what he did.
Not quite... You forgot to mention the massive use of harmonics, delay, and the incredible control he had for the entire segment that he raped the volume pot to swell the sound into a virtual cello. He was also having some fun with that pseudo bass slap technique towards the end, and let's not forget the fact that he mastered the art of the smoke ring. It might have made the entire performance. ;-)... But yeah... "Hammer-ons and pull-offs". Hahaha. Nothing Eddie did was new, but when he perfected each technique and mushed it all together, it melted our virgin ears... Months of trying to emulate him melted our fingers and our minds. I remember thinking "Hey guys... Maybe we shouldn't play covers anymore". I loved (and hated) that man for years.
@pete ziriaah - I'm guessing you don't play, or maybe you are a beginner. Tapping has been around since before Billy grew his first beard hair Gibbons "Ripped it off" too. Classical violinists have been using the technique forever, and I'm positive there are ancient forms of cultural stringed instruments that have used it long before the U.S. and American guitarists were even thought of.
American guitarists such as George Van Eps applied tapping to the guitar in the 1950s, and Dr. Vittorio Camardese even does a little "Eddie" on this 1965 performance. ua-cam.com/video/UmTQYquqxSY/v-deo.html ... It's a short clip. Check it out. Tapping" is easy... Playing the original studio version of Eruption is relatively easy... What EDDIE did was not easy. He integrated tapping in with a lot of other techniques and he did it seamlessly. Have other's mastered it? Sure, but much like Hendrix, or SRV, Others will take what they've contributed and they'll build off of it to be "Better" than the original. It's the natural progression of everything from music to MMA fighting. Not tryin' to sound too cocky here, but if you DO think your tapping (or other) techniques are worthy, post a bit of it on your channel. More amateur music and fewer politics on UA-cam... My ultimate goal. ;-)
Stevie Ray Vaughn was incredible. I saw him in concert. But.., Stevie was a blues guitarist. Eddie Van Halen is a rock and roll guitarist. Each rules his own world. You rock Shaq. I'm a big fan.

One of EVH's biggest inspirations was Eric Clapton's fast blues soloing on Cream's cover of "Crossroads." The blues is still in there, you just have to squint a little to see it. ;)
@@thatsriiight5047 I love Stevie but this is just insane. Stevie does the blues better than anybody though, he does Hendrix better than Hendrix.
Great point. Different genres. Can’t compare!
The FBI put the guitar in protective custody after this performance
Yeah. I'm surprised they didn't arrest Eddie on stage for this. He made literal guitar porn
Anyone coming back here after the sad news? :(
Captain Midget yeah 2020 sucks ass
Awful
Yeah 😢
I’ve... listened to this solo like 10+ times in the last 3 days... :-/] ) and then sent to an “Elan”-type school owned by WAASP in La Verkin, Utah-just weeks after having turned down that last minute invitation to a Van Halen concert in 2004, having no idea I would be in an overpriced, fraudulent, “behavioral modification center” for teens just weeks after-literally taken in the middle of the night, early on a Wednesday morning-with 20/20 hindsight I wish I had made myself regurgitate lunch, feigned a stomach bug, and had my friend pick me up... sigh... (c” ತ,_ತ)
Edit: Likely considered to be “depressing details” added.
RIP Eddie.

Eddie said it best “I’m just a punk kid with a guitar!” He just so happened to have a father and a mother that had music playing at all times…Eddie loved classical which is why you’re hearing all the classical pieces he plays!!!! Welcome to the club!!!
Eddie reinvented the guitar and influenced everyone who came after him. One of the most influential guitarists in history.
this is true eddie did make many advancement in gear which is his biggest contribution
That guitar is immortal dude, that's why its called "Frankenstrat"
actually its called the frankenstrat because it has a bunch of different parts on it
The guitar he’s playing in the clip is 5150
That’s the 5150 dude 😐
He's not wrong

"This is gettin' demonitized. This is straight porn."
I rolled in the dirt, man. Muahahahhhh! Hilarious.
This man made me want to play guitar and he is a legend and will never be forgotten. R.I.P Eddie Van Halen.
He also did the guitar solo in Michael Jackson's Beat It. A damn good guitarist, indeed.
He did it for free, too.
Actually for a case of beer
BRO I WAS JUST THINKING OF THAT SONG WTF
I love learning facts like this. Thank you
"That guitar was innocent as shit 3 minutes ago!"

He’s the guitarist on Michael Jackson “Beat It”

I showed this to my dad before he died and he said, "Now I get the whole Van Halen appreciation thing you have." My dad couldn't believe it when I told him that EVH was a Glen Campbell fan and they were friends. GC was father's favorite. Odd that the circle keeps coming around. RIP GC & EVH!

Hot For Teacher would be better
@ silverfang that's a good one too
Yes! Hot For Teacher and You Really Got Me! A drum intro and a guitar intro!

God please take care of Eddie 🙏😇

Hammer-ons, Pull-offs, arpeggios, pinch harmonics, echo, reverb and a shit ton of overdrive and distortion... plus the hottest pick-ups on earth. ‘‘Tis the sound of Eddie Van Halen

Our Lady of Prompt Liqueur don't forget the whammy bar is also the sound of Van Halen
Also he's a professional guitarist all the effects in the world aren't going to make anyone a EVH
To be fair he said “best rock and roll guitarist ever” and SRV is a blues guitarist. Both incredible!
Most innovative guitarist since Hendrix. Started a whole generation.
EyeSoul Correct, correct, CORRECT!!!
It’s unbelievable to hear other bands at the same time it seems like decades ahead of 70s-80s music. Though Eddie isn’t up there on my top 3, he gets my respect.
Tyler bro he has to be the #2 behind Hendrix
@@alexrepak1581 agreed
Raging Repak It depends.. if we are talking innovative,, yeah Hendrix, Eddie. If we’re talking my favorites... the list is different. I’d have Alex Lifeson up near the top. It’s so hard to rate guitarist because some may not be technical, but have amazing feeling , some are a good blend of technical and feeling. Some are just unique (Brian May) so, I find it hard to pick favorites. I just love guitar.
You have just been privileged to listen to one of the legends of our times. RIP EVH, you were the best.
Shaq: "Y'all stop smiling! This ain't funny!"
Me: Can Shaq see through my webcam?!?!
Ikr bro
It was in that moment that Shaq awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan, gaining the ability to see his viewers through his cam, and it was all from the sheer trauma of witnessing the absolute beastly God of a guitarist, the one known as Eddie Van Halen, go ham on (or as Shaq himself would put it, "rape") his beloved axe.
Dats Tuff.
I was ear to ear when he said that
Just what I'm thinking 😂
Van Halen hot for teacher coach...the guitar and drums will blow u away
Yes!
But please not the video version
I think he's already blown away by this. Now he needs therapy, lol.
totally
For VH, Hot for Teacher's a good one, I always liked Cabo Wabo, 5150, Black and Blue etc as well, for less 'popular' songs that never got enough play or respect
"This is getting demonetized. This is porn."
I love his reaction so much😂😂” what about stevie, what about my guy” thats how i be feelin too

Can you even imagine the concert in heaven tonight.....Rest in Peace Mr. Van Halen.
I love how no life shaq is always positive, he is the most genuine reaction channel out there, love the videos
if only you could realize the contradiction in your own statement. do you really think a person who is always positive is being genuine? You really think that? you don't think it has anything to do with the fact that social blade says he makes between somewhere between 65K and 1.1 million dollars a year pretending to like everything as a full time job? Imagine if instead of going to an office 40 hours a week, you could do whatever you want, but you have to pretend you enjoy a few music videos a day. Use your brain.
Nega_Weeb I see both your points. I do find his excitement to be contagious and inspiring, though, but obviously he’s a human like the rest of us!
Nega_Weeb I’m just being positive man, show some love
Transparent Eclipse it’s mumble rap who likes that trash

So glad you finally got Eddie Van Halen’s “Eruption”. Been wanting to see your reaction to that bomb forever. 🔥💣👽🤘🏼
That is the classic best rock and roll guitarist of all time. Rest in peace Eddie Van halen!
Most guitarists have a blues influnce. U just saw what a guitarist plays when influenced by classical music
I mean it was more blues than anything, it was just really fast. Some of it was classical probably because of Eddie being classically trained on piano when he was young
Those licks came from Johann sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor
Mix of both. Pentatonics and harmonic minors. Makes for an outstanding sound.
A lot of people don’t understand the value of a classically trainee musician. This is proof that classical music is a-freaking-mazing and absolutely still has value.

RIP Eddie. "Heaven will be electric tonight" to quote Kravitz
Eddie is the reason so many musicians look at their guitars and go “I wish”.
But some of them look at this and scoff.(jazz players)
And ingwie Malmsteen is the reason guitar players don't even try
Coach, what Eddie is doing to that guitar is not rape. It's purely consensual. He is making sweet, sweet love to the guitar.
Haha See that's where I would disagree. Clapton, Beck, Gikmour...they make love. EVH...that is sheer abuse.hahaha My God no one makes a guitar sound like EDDIE!!! He is the KING!!!

anything but Hot for teacher!!! If VH ever sold out, it was with that POS song, basically written and produced by MTV!
"That guitar needs to see a therapist!" This was HILARIOUS!
Let me correct that for you. "It's pure sorcery!"
My ultimate goal. ;-)
You obviously dont play guitar.
pete ziriaah iirc, tapping was “invented” by a gypsy Jazz guitarist
man back then guitar solos were longer then most concerts today....
It's always fun to see a new generation finally discover Eddie...It's like watching primordial man discover fire. Haha.
