I just want my life to have meaning, you know? I feel really lost in life, I’m only 20 years old and am feeling like this is all that I can do
I am applying ...yes, it will be physically challenging, but that's the change you have been praying for, right, not this boredom life you got now.
I’m 19 years old, second year at university, and yesterday I Withdraw from college to join the army for the same reason.
Great video, I retired from the AF after 23 years. The military is great for young people to bid some time until they figure out what they want to do. Like he said you get paid training and experience while you're deciding what to do. Remember this, someone will always tell you what to do and when to do it. Even if you start your own business your customers will tell you what to do and when to do it. The military like all large operation has many rules and regulations that seem dumb, don't let that bother you stay focused on YOUR future.
“ Even if you start your own business your customers what to do and when to do it” 💯
That’s a great perspective. Someone somewhere will tell you want to do 💯
@@AaronbTV fr that line spoke loud ; yup tbh , if you the type to not like people, I’m pretty sure your going to have Issue maneuvering around
Was 18, parents split up, had a crappy seasonal minimum wage job that was coming to an end, was almost homeless, wanted to go to college but was broke.
Joined the army and got an intelligence MOS. Best thing that happened. Opened a lot of doors after I got out and gave me college money. Looked great on my resume. I really loved my job. Got to travel and live in some great and not so great places. Lots of camaraderie and friendships and experiences. Everything paid for. Job security.
And in retrospect, if I had stayed in and done my 20 years, I could have gotten a retirement the age of 38. Pretty darn nice.
Really? Your mos was intelligence and you say ,and after I got out they gave me college money. 🤔 No disrespect but this seriously concerns me about the state of our society.
@@williamsavant6430 wait whay does this comment concern you about the state of society 😂 please explain i lowkey laughed it's bc of thinking of joining but my parents kinda want me to and im kinda down but im confused too like what the hell even do they do☠️like i know there's many jobs and it's an important job but which path u take ☠️why does this community concern you
I served 24 years, and although, I could challenge your Cons, I appreciate a young guy, A Young Black man speaking Highly of the Military. Forever how long you serve, just know you are and impact.
Thinking about joining, I’m 17 and I wanna do it at an early age so when I’m 20 I can just live a good life
I want to join because I hear that they pay for school. I plan on being a vet. Right after highschool I go to the military (4 years) than collage (3-4 years) than vet school. So you think that's good? I'm 14
@@tryhard7257 yeah 14 too and I'm trying to join for the money and the fact that they will reshape me into a hardworking person but idk if it's worth it since one family member said yes and he was in the Brazilian military saying it was like school or adults while the other said no because I'm not that much of a hardworker which is true
@@tryhard7257 i know your not asking me, but i think it’s a good plan. but i would do some research on which one you want to go to and know what your getting yourself into. and because your young i would work out and do the exercises they do in the boot camp just so your prepared. good luck!
If you want to join as an officer after college, many of the things he talked about still apply, but at the end of the day joining as an officer is a totally different ball game than enlisting. Use the military to help you pay for college and then enjoy your time as an officer.
How does this work? I’m a college student right now and have about two years left. Should I wait to enlist or sooner the better?
@@tonyclayton585 you should probably finish out your college because if you join the military, especially on active duty, you would have less time to do so.
I would imagine that unless you get a good job at a good unit, you would have even less time for yourself to even do online courses in the army especially because you would be going to the field for weeks at a time and even doing things like long formations and PT (not to mention long ruck marches) and time in the motorpool would make your days longer.
Unless you are much older, I would say wait it out till you are done with your college work, especially if you aren't even in your mid twenties yet.
@@golfery5119 I’m 20 turning 21 this October. I’d still be able to join as an officer after I graduate?
@@tonyclayton585 im sure you would have to do ROTC or some officer candidate school but you still have plenty of time since the age limit for officer is 35
Pro #3 is the main reason I joined, I literally enlisted recently right after I got my associates, I was not paying that high tuition for my transfer school. I’m excited to gain the experience that I want in the army and feel like I’m set for the future. And honestly, the cons feel more like “emotional” cons; that’s just a new adjustment to someone’s mentality.
Nice video, makes me feel a little less nervous 🙂
@@myasmith5245 did you leave yet? I want to go when I graduate this year just scared of doing basic training considering I’m a girl😂

For anyone discouraged please read! I didn’t have a education no GED or diploma I self taught from UA-cam. Go talk with an Army recruiter ASAP I didn’t have a GED nor diploma, I also had a felony arrest in 2017. The Army still offered open arms to me I got set up with the Sophia’s learning program where I received a diploma along with 15 college credits. I will be sworn in MAY 5th. Do not give up on your goals keep pushing until you get where you want I’ve been chasing this since 18 I’m now 22 turning 23 next month it’s never to late!
Don thank you for asking! I’m 30 days away from my ship off date! Honestly this has been a blessing I’m newly married; this opportunity gave me an education and a stable future for my wife and I, I’m very thankful for that. I went with 91B as my Mos there are pros and cons to every job but I figured this will most likely further my knowledge I don’t have a background in mechanics but I’m open to everything. I was able to get a sign on bonus as well.
Speak the truth bro!!!! I’m in right now and ALL your cons on point 💯
Honestly the short time I was in the navy it changed me for the better. In the end I joined for the wrong reasons and that's why I got out pretty quickly. But one thing is for sure. I can always say I became a sailor I got through boot camp. Which was rough for me. Those that are joining or thinking about joining the military. Join for the right reasons don't rush into it neither. I got lucky they let me just get out without it really effecting my civilian life. A lot of others weren't or aren't so lucky. Thanks for your service!!
you should elaborate on : 1) why were you discharged? 2) what do you think the “right reasons” are for joing the military? and 3) why did you join?
22 years old. I love fighting, I train jiu jitsu, and kickboxing. It’d be awesome to make it as a pro MMA fighter, but with everything going on in the world I just can’t. I want to be a part of a positive change so this is why I stumbled on your video. Plus fighting in a cage won’t give me a secured bag haha, in all seriousness, the army has always been in the back of my head. I’m just barely realizing that I don’t want to miss any more years of my life not making that change happen. Great video brotha 🤙🏻
awesome. but consider all of the military, and not just the army. also keep in mind that unless you get a good job with a good unit in the army, you might have less time (if active duty) for your hobbies, since lots of people in the army spend time out in the woods for weeks at a time plus we have morning formations that make our days longer. lots of people in the air force (unless they have jobs like maintainers or mechanics) would have more time for themselves than so many people in the army do.
Awesome brother! I’m same age about to be 23. Feel the same, being part of a positive bigger change. Also have jiu jitsu training but want more out of it. Look into USAF, a lot more benefits than other branches even tho you get that sas talk from all those branches lmao
Really good video. One additional con in the military is that it’s very hard on relationships. The deployments, training exercises and moving to new locations is hard on loved ones. Also, there are times when the military will have draw downs and force senior officers and NCOs to retire.
my boyfriend is joining the army and he told me that its “family friendly”, him meaning that after we’re both 18 and married i’d be able to move in with him after he gets a house and his life started and that we’d be living together and that it’d be like him leaving for a normal job unless he gets deployed, then thats when there is time spent away. i’m just not entirely sure yk and im not sure if i am making sense but i’m just wondering
@@alainalandon8958if you are emotionally dependant on your boyfriend and/or the type of person that needs lots of reassurance then you should really reconsider if this is what you want. My girlfriend and I broke up because we realized that I wouldn't be available as a bf in the army. It's the sad truth that still hurts to this day, but better that then us being miserable together.
I wish I'd seen your video 40+ years ago. Keep up the great work!

@@princess10 think about that new crossfit based PT test the army is coming out with especially. A lot of females, including those who have been in the army for years, struggle with the leg tucks and the run (even though you have more time to run, you are also tired from the previous events including the sprint drag and carry). think about it.
you can join other branches of the military and still receive the same benefits the army, without the extra struggles (path of least resistance, work smarter not harder, etc).

A really big PRO for me was I could sleep anywhere under any condition after a couple of years.Sleep is probably the most important thing to a soldier so sleep 'em where & when you can.
I wouldn’t consider hard work a con.
@Damien Fuentes if those are the only deciding factors then maybe, but most jobs will not have just work load and payment as deciding factors. Hard work builds character, discipline, and while the skill of one job may not carry to another, trying your hardest to be the best you can be at whatever you do can be turned into a habit that will help you anywhere. So, assuming you’re in a career you enjoy, the hard work that goes into becoming skilled in your field is a benefit.

Being someone with a long time interest in some sort of military involvement, I must give credit to your video. Though in yours, like many others, you go get a great deal of pros and cons that are greatly understood in some way by us civilians. Honestly, I want to know more about my risks, reasons I shouldn’t go in, what’s gonna make me want to quit, how am I going to feel about myself in the corps, or even after - a long time after? I know all these answers can’t be answered. I also know your post is more than sincere, while I need a more real world, transient approach to service and life within current day battle and war.
What are you excited about the military or what are you worried about?

Another plus is respect from people who do respect the military
Since I was a you boy I always wanted to join the military, but life got real fast and family came first for me. Now I'm 22 and need to start my life so I made up my mind I'm going to join to build and better myself so I can help my family better, like j Cole said "the good news is you came a long way, the bad news is you went the wrong way". That hit me, because I know I stood strong and kept going and never got short stopped where a lot of people probably would have, but something happened I got lost along the way I don't know what I want to do for a living I focused so much on my family I forgot about me now everyone is getting by on their own okay, but I'm dead in the water & I don't know maybe its god who just said here and gave me the opportunity to finally start my life still pretty young and live. Now its my time to got fit & figure out what branch to join thanks for the heads up man and you service ✊❤✌
