Alright so next up in line for the Fatal Fury City of the Wovles character previews is Marco Rodrigues. Didn't he used to be called Khushnood Butt? Yes he did, and we don't talk about that anymore. He is our KARATE MAN for cotw, and every fighting game needs a karate man, and luckily for us he's actually one hell of a karate man at that! So in the vid I kinda just breakdown everything he's capable of to help you see if he's your kinda guy, so give a watch and let me know what you think!
I still gonna call him Khushnood.
@@tpatt513 hes literally been marco from the start, he was only khushnood in a couple regions and marco in the rest of the world. Now its normalized.
Does this game have rollback netcode monger.
He was Khushnood Butt in the last iteration that was available for Xbox 360. Garou: Mark of the Wolves
@@brandonrice1124 rollback netcode and full crossplay already confirmed yes
"95% of the people watching this video are barely even aware of AoF" - Rooflemonger
And so, I officially declare this "Art of Fighting Awareness Month". Art of Fighting was the first fighting game:
- to have camera zoom
- to have taunts
- to have battle damage
- to allow you to chi up and build meter
Put some respect on it's name!
- to have a "super combo"
To have input reading opponents from the first stage all the way to the boss that's so infuriating you can feel the ulcers in your stomach and the several strokes to your brain.
AoF is also the originator of Demon Rage.
To have terrible controls and shitty gameplay, not to forget.
I say this as someone who owns the games and has played them on release.
Also, to have clothes rip when finishing opponents with a special or super.
OSU!! 👊🏾🥋🇧🇷
akuma had to abandon his humanity and turn into an ogre of olde to use the giant falling chop. marco simply had to learn it from a man's dad. the gulf in power here cannot be overstated
Which just shows how badass guys like Takuma, Oro, and Gouken are as they're able to match Akuma's full might without losing their humanity unlike him.
@@jasongriffin7927 Takuma willing to be Mr. Big's goon in AOF 1 shows that he prefers his family over humanity.
Idk I still think ogre would body all of them
@@trappestarrgaming3422snk character build different
@@ameerrusdi2540 I guess. I mean lore wise I'm pretty sure kyo is stronger then mr. Karate and his disciples as in street fighter full power akuma is top 2
Marco finally has his original name back cool.
Fun fact Art of Fighting was the first FG with Super Special moves, Ryuuko Ranbu and Haoh Shoukouken were the first of their kind
I love when they can make a character who takes themself and what they do seriously, but is still fun and charismatic. Not the easiest thing to do, and from what I've seen they've nailed it with Marco.
Rooflemonger realizing he's old is an interesting development
Marco like preecha is frustrating(not in a bad way) because after I got home I realized like 4000 more things I could do with them combo wise that didn't initially pop up in my head while I was playing. Combo system is super free form and lets you do tons of stuff and Marco a bit more than most even. Also shoutout to the comments asking for the vid making me realizing not everyone is 40 years old like me and that a lot of you weren't even born last time Marco was playable, cause I was gonna skip this video thinking hes just as ubiquitous as Terry until that point lol.
It’s cool to have a Brazilian karate guy, cause in Brazil there’s a large amount of Brazilians who are of Japanese descent.
He is inspired by the legendary Francisco Filho, one of the few men to fight in a 100-man Kumite without being hospitalized. A gigachad character for a gigachad fighter
Yes, for example in Street Fighter there's the inclusion of Sean and Laura Matsuda. I remember watching a Brazilian UA-cam video about Brazilian fighting game characters, it talked about how most of the time Brazilians in fighting games tend to be capoeria practitioners, like Eddy Gordo, Richard Meyer and Bob Wilson, but characters like Marco are a breath of fresh air since they practice other type of martial arts. There's also the usual thing that some of them tend to be soccer players, though the video also speculated that KoF 2001 Brazil Stage was a reference to the late Ayrton Senna, considering it was a Formula One racing track, and Senna himself was very famous in Japan
@@pablocasas5906btw oro was a friend of deans granddad they went to brazil togther from japan
Clearly that man is Afro Brazilian
Didn't knew Brazil's Black Dynamite was this hype, but I'm all here for it
1:51 The other way around, "Ryuuko Ranbu" was in AOF (1992), "Raging Demon" wasn't even a thing at the time.
man i aint saying it like its a dick waving thing, im saying it like its the ultimate attack of the game, 95% of the people watching this video are barely even aware of AoF
@@rooflemonger Noone is dick waving, it's owned respect. Now if you really want to know, raging demon first appearance was in 1988's Double Dragon II: The revenge. After beating Willy you fight your shadow self, and he has all your moves plus that invincible shadow dash unblockable grab, the (unnamed then) raging demon. Capcom's whole Akuma concept was almost that if you think about it, a "shadow Ryu" with the same moves plus raging demon, that appears at the very end of the game. Double Dragon II is a great game I still play. So you have to thank Yoshihisa Kishimoto the "grandfather of beat 'em ups" for Akuma and raging demon.
@@charidimosf the hell are you talking about? Double dragon? Lmao so anytime someone fights a shadow version of themselves is a raging demon? Shadow Link is raging demon? Link and dark link in City of the wolves confirmed.
Owned respect, please go back to watching NCIS 😂
@markmessi9020 Dude, some of us can appreciate that various developers created things that became staples of the industry. Beat em ups and fighting games have just as much DNA as Capcom and SNK.
And what Technos did with Double Dragon went on to influence Sega (Streets of Rage series) and Capcom (Final Fight) so seeing someone in know about how that Shadow worked and helped influence other developers is just showing that people don't create in a vacuum.
@@markmessi9020 Tatsumaki comes from Double Dragon, Hadoken comes from Dragonball, Ryu and Ken comes from Karate Champ, Health bars comes from Yie Ar Kung Fu ...I'll stop. Things had happened before Street fighter ever was a thing. Respect is earned, we are standing on shoulders of giants and I will respect them.
Marco is here to kick some..Butt
I get it. 😉
THE BUTT IS BACK BABY
that was the title of my marco trailer breakdown vid lol
and smoke some kush in the nude
Marco is honestly one of my favorite fighting characters ever. In Garou his animations were so good and the impact and feeling of his attacks were so satisfying. Played him and Gato like crazy. I'm surprised how well they carried over his 2d sprite feeling to 3d. I'm hyped about this game now.
this game’s visual design is immaculate
count me in with the number of people who are happy you are doing a spotlight video for Marco... the irony of the statement "you werent born then" is that after years of looking up obscure fighting games on the internet back in the day, i finally have a chance to play as "Khushnood Butt" and for me that's absolutely worth the price of admission alone
OSU!! 👊🏾🥋🇧🇷
Thank you VERY MUCH for the video my friend!! Marco looks insanely amazing in CoTW, and I can't wait to play as him! 🤩
One quick note, as for his Negative Edge moves, the EX versions of them are now like the ones in the past, that you had to hold an insanely amount of time to get them. Interesting enough, Marco's EX fireball works like Ryo's regular fireball in KOF games! And I believe that was changed, but Marco's Ryuuko Ranbu, in Mark of the Wolves, used to have different versions with depending on how many times you tapped the button during the beginning of the animation, but I believe they pretty much merged all of them in CoTW.
Thanks A LOT again for it, Roofle, and fingers crossed so we can get Mr. Karate Ryo in CoTW too... 🤞👺
Mr Karate Ryo in CoTW to hype up Art of Fighting 4
insanely exited for this game
1:10 Dont be intimidated by Marco, try to imagine him shirtless...
OH NO HE'S HAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT!
way ahead of you
They kept all of Marco’s intricacies and idiosyncrasies!!! I’m so hype, thank god they didn’t streamline the characters
Marco looks dope. Thanks for the video.
Hearing you say that MotW is 25 years old made me collapse into a pile of bones and dust
I was born 11 days before Garou was released, it's bizarre the fact that Marco Rodrigues haven't been in any other game for 25 years!
Nice video as always rooflemonger. Also I see what you did there lol 8:22
Thanks for doing Marco next 🙏. Marco is to badass to be old news
rooflemonger you're making the best videos in the FGC. Please continue his series
Thanks for doing a preview for this character! Marco looks cool as hell and as someone that enjoys playing Ryo, he looks like he'll be a great fit for me. Admittedly, I was alive when the Fatal Fury games came out but I was definitely not of an age where I was freely allowed to go to arcades. Many SNK games were merely legends and myths I would read about in gaming magazines. lol
The art direction of this game is some of the best SNK has had in years!
Butt is gonna be my main again. Hopefully he has the orange gi.
Is his Hidden Gear Mashable like in part one for extra hits/damage?
he does have the orange gi. All the hidden gears got simplified from the last build, no additional mashing needed he just does the whole shebang out of the gate
Brazilian Karate Master...I'm getting some Francisco Filho vibes
Love that the three characters you covered are the three I’m most interested in
Edit: I would actually love Ryo to come back as Mr Karate
Glad to see Marco back i never played him but watch those play him is awestruck
Fun trivia for the young watchers: AFAIK the "Ryuuko Ranbu" and "Haoh Shoukou Ken" are the very fist supers ever in any Fighting Game.
I still remember when I saw Art of Fighting in the arcade, it had so many new mechanics and innovations (at the time) that it really felt a game from another planet.
Ok now I feel old...
Man he looks awesome!!!! Im hoping they bring back either Michael Max or Axel Hawk.
Marco fthewolves.
Im just glad Marco's name is..well, Marco. Butt what do I know
You made me realize I'm old. I know about Marco😂😂😂😂
I can already see him being extremely popular online
Khushnood won't be the Butt of jokes anymore!
Although I have to admit, now I want my fighting game characters a bit nerdy and with some glasses.
Sorry Marco,...wait what, a parry you say,...hmmm...
God he looks cool!
Rooflemonger you are the goat 🔥🐐🔥 🙌
I love this character 🕹️ Thanks for the lore video 🥃
Praise the pompadour!!!
Marco is Ryu with steroids. Thanks roofle for the updates
Mr karate II def feels like a pick
>I'm old
Look, man... You don't have to attack me like that... 😢
Oh ok
So he got that lunging punch thing Ryo got in KoF 99 I think when they started that move.
Looks like it's actually useful now
It’s a reference most people don’t know but back in the day Kyokushin karate in Brazil was really strong. So Mark of the Wolf did a nice tribute to that era of karate with Kyokugen’s fictional karate that Kyokushin is based on with a Brazilian kyokugen branch in The fatal fury lore
Oof, we're getting old bud. I did not even consider that a lot of people playing this weren't born when the original was released.
I do like some SHOTO's! I cant wait for this game! Day one for me!
OSU!! 👊🏾🥋🇧🇷
Jesus man, I did not need to know Garou was 25 years ago😅😢
Rooflemonger advocating for some Buriki One action in Garou. :o
If ryo gets in the game it better be as Mr. Karate 🥋👺
Amen!! 🙌🙌
Just a correction: Raging Demon is the Ranbu of Capcom cause Art of Fighting introduced “Supers” to the FG genre. They came up with supers. So it only makes sense to pay respect to the 1st and original super RyuukoRanbu (Dragon and Tiger Dance) - Kyokuegenryu-Ougi (Secret Art of Kyokugen Karate)
Not knowing is one thing but calling it a Raging Demon of SNK is just disrespectful. Kindly correct it. Thanks
@@shuja1120 absolutely not, im saying in a term that the audience watching will understand, im not doing this as a capcom snk dick waving thing get over yourself.
@@rooflemongersorry i didnt know your intentions brother. Just feel sad when credit is overlooked…like a footnote or anything stating it as the 1st super of FGs would have been nice. Ranbu gave us critical arts rage arts supers. I know Max and Justin wont state it but your videos are very nicely done and informative. I was expecting it from you. Sorry again, i should always give the benefit of doubt to others before jumping to conclusions. Sorry
@@shuja1120 I didn't mean to take your head off but I try to make videos for as wide of an audience as I can and thus I mix terminologies of games all the time to make sure the highest amount of people watching understand what I am talking about. A large number of people watching the city of the wolves coverage has never even played any SNK game before, so I am doing my best to ease them in.
I knew nothing about this guy but he looks badass and I like me a basic shoto so I'll be checking him out once the game drops. Thanks for the info!
I have always been a huge fan of the Kyokugen Karate characters in these games. I have probably had Ryo Sakazaki on almost ever single team in the KOF games since I got introduced to them in Capcom vs SNK 2 and KOF99.
My Man Marco finaly playable after all these years .
Marco's so fkn cool
About time!¡!!! 😊
Looks AMAZING
I suggest dive in like this for all characters man. While we may now them the character nuances might be missed and thus need to be walked through. That said this was great thank you.
I truly hope this game will be successful. Sam sho, as awesome as it is, has no one playing online. I hope it won't be the same fate for this one. It would be such a pain.
Yeah the netcode issues killed it smh I wanted to play it so bad but even day one I had issues .
Khushnood Butt is NOT old news.
Best Shoto of all time, any fighting game.
He looks so fun
the pompadour, the sideburns, the chesthair ...
so basically he's a gorilla's shoto ... bar commandgrab maybe
have to be honest didn't think of him much, but yea the video made him a bit more appealing at least ... nice ultracombomove though (yea i know KoF inspired Killer Instinct in that regard)
but still i'm not seeing a stand out character for me yet ... maybe if yamazaki comes back, think he's a FF and KoF mainstay
marco is so goated he only has to use one hand for a fireball
This game looks very nice to look at and play. Hope it does well. Wouldn’t be suprised if some SF characters guest as well
KYOKUGEN IS ABSOLUTE!! ➡⬅↙⬇↘➡➕🔵
HAOH... SHOKOU KEN!! 💥
I hope they put shadows in for when you break like in Garou, and the levels of his neg edge moves
this ain't Marco this is black dynamite ohhhh yea bb
Can't wait to try this game game. Hopefully theres a beta this year
I'm an old head and I didn't remember Marco!
Might be a little silly question but can you link a light into a heavy into a heavy special in this new game? Like i can do 5A (3 frame) into 2C (5 frame) into 236D as Jae
yeah you can link lights into heavies, im pretty sure somewher in this vid I show marco linking close B into crouch C.
Sounds like he's gonna be my main!!!
Of course Kyokugen Master Mr. Butt is gonna be in this. :)
He looks like James Kelly from Bruce Lee's enter the dragon
My favorite character is gonna be a challenge to fight him
Wondering how the gameplay feels because this game looks so damn fun. I'm scared this will have KoF15's tightness and jank which i hated, really hoping it's modernized well 🤞🤞
If you're feeling lost in the City of Wolves... Just holler Marco "Polo" Rodrigues lol... and you'll surely find your way
🔥🥋🔥
I think this is my game...
Did you find a few minutes to try out vox? I thought at first he was a freeman replacement but im seeing grant stuff from him, hoping he lives up to the big button hype.
vox is very much grant yeah, and he will get his own vid
Great video as always @rooflemonger. 😊
Just a comment on the "Shoto" archetype. As a 2nd dan Shotokan Karateka myself, I think I can give some explanations about how the "Shoto" word have been overused since it used with Ryu and Ken for bad reasons. Even if their moves are based on Karate at start, the archetype is more defined now by the hado/shoryu and Tatsu that are obviousely not really Shotokan Karate moves... That makes the "Shoto" archetype very annoying to hear when you really practice Shotokan Karate. I would admit that Kyokugen Karate from the AoF games is pretty close of real Shotokan Karate technics but the best representant of Shotokan Karate ever created for a fighting game is Lidia Sobieska from T7/8. Her fighting style is very close of what we practice in our Dojo for the simple fact that Tastuya Naka who made her motion capture is a JKA Shotokan Karate Sensei. 😉
Glad he's not the Butt anymore. What was SNK thinking of giving him that name?
To be fair to them Marco was always his original name
Its the localisation team that needs to get chewed out
It was similar to the Balrog/ Mike Tyson situation.
Marco is more kyokushin on crack
What is the input for break cancel in COTW? Is it the same as garou?
please SNK I need to see Tizoc vs Big Bear / Raiden.
NO RAIDEN NO BUY-DEN
Kyokugen-ryu wa muteki da!
did he gain ryo's non fireball move; wonder if its the light version of his fireball
EX version.
Regulars are fullscreen ones
Wasn’t his name Cushnood Butt or something like that
The im old hit to hard
You didn't make a Voix Reaper video?
I in fact did and its live now
Dude just say he that 70s karate man. You know you want to
i cant cause hes a 90s karate man
@rooflemonger maybe made but not modeled.
I’m maining him just because we have the same name🤭
He looks like dan.
Is there any lore behind the name 'Khushnood Butt'?
His name was always marco. but in a few regions it was changed cause they feared legal reprisal for whatever reason. The legend goes that there was someone named khushnood bhatt who was friendly with the snk team in one way or another, and then that (butchered) became the name
I really want to get into both this and SF6 but put off trying to move lists, combos, match ups, and frame data. I watch SF6 more than I actually play.
Sometimes I imagine that Marcos can be like Paul phoenix tekken 3 style where Paul became the “champion” of tekken 3 but no
