I think one thing people need to remember too is not to rely only on exercise for weight loss. Exercise is KEY for health, muscle tone, heart health, disease reduction etc, but it doesn't burn tons of calories, unless you're working out for several hours a day. Your diet is the most important thing when losing weight. One 30 minute workout only burns about 120-150 calories (depending on your weight, age etc). That equals about a tablespoon of olive oil.
I’ll be 49 in 2 days. I’ve never worked out before, 2 years ago I stumbled on taekwondo and fell in love with it. Training 5 days a week. Don’t need to say the physical and mental strength I had to go through to keep going, but loving every minute in it. And now I have the strongest body I’ve ever had in my life. And built good muscles 💪🏻
Wow, that's incredible! 🎉 I love hearing how taekwondo has transformed your body and mind - the dedication you’ve shown is truly inspiring! 💪🏻 As someone who helps women over 40 with nutrition, I’m curious-how has your approach to fueling your body changed with this new strength and muscle growth? It's amazing how the right balance of training and nutrition can take things to the next level!
I love your approach to health and fitness in menopause. IT IS DIFFERENT NOW. I have been working out for decades and at age 64, what worked for me then can stress me out now. I'm also SO OVER hearing lift HEAVY weights. I just read an article about weights and as long as you are lifting a challenging weight and taking it to failure, you're good. As you said, STOP THE OVERWHELM.
THANK YOU Tracey. 46 year old menopausal mum of a 4 year old, busting a gut EVERY day trying to get weights in as that’s the narrative. I SO appreciate your advice, I love fitness, but had stopped enjoying it. Going to try different things as you suggest and stop sweating it so much. X❤
Personal Trainer here and in Perimenoapause. I am so so pleased to finally hear these points from another in the fitness industry. It is a bit of a battle to inform people that go hard or go home 7 days a week can be overwhelming or counterproductive. Weak Pelvic floor!! Yes. Common, not "normal". Educating ourselves on our bodies now in our current age is so important and not consuming information that's not meant for you. I absolutely love this video and I am pleased to know I teach exactly the same way. Thank you, Thank you, thank you!
Tracey, you were so professional yet fun with explaining the dos and don'ts. I really believe you when you talk. Alot of people aren't as thorough or experienced either so I can see why you look so good at your age. I'm really impressed! I have a health background too and although you aren't sharing tips on healthy eating for menopause one thing that I know works for hot flashes and mood swings is less sugar in the diet. More protein. And without hormones some people find relief with Black Cohash veg capsules found in most grocery stores. Keep up the great work motivating others!
I’ll be 58 in 2 weeks 🙀 so I am very post menopausal 😂 I have RA so my options for exercise are limited. I live in the country so walking is my gig. I walk 10,000 steps every morning and do upper arm free weights every other day. I’m only using 3 pound weights because of the arthritis I can’t lift more than that but it works for me. Happy Sunday 🥰
Good clean eating is the most important key to success in everyday life and in fitness performance… As you know, I’m long past menopause at now age 60, and although I’m in great shape thanks to daily fitness (most of it yours ❤) and clean eating for years and years (actually thanks to childhood onset of Type I Diabetes), I need to change some of my exercise ways somewhat as well. I have always tended to overdo things so need to calm it down a bit. So thanks for these tips and reminders Tracy! ❤❤❤
I run and clean my house all day and its enough as training! Walk, clean, walk, clean, give water to the garden and thats all! Easy , free and calm training.
Hello Tracy, my wife went into menopause 2 years ago. She was asking me what is going on?I did understand, but I do not not how it feels. My wife did have an easy time with her menopause. I am happy about that. My wife did not have her mom around so she could not ask her any questions. I did have my wife ask my mom about his. This worked out great. Why? My mom and my wife are more close. What you did not mention is that menopause could be a good thing. Why? First, what if you a surprise period? My wife has had this happen on vacation. The worst time for this. Not anymore. Another big thing. You can now make "Love" whenever you want and you will not get pregnant. Thoughts?
Thank you so much sissy Tracy , am almost your age . And i got precious information from you once again thanks a lot. Pls explain about how to keep mind health too this another major issue during menopause I think so❤❤❤
"This is a big butt" made me giggle dumbly. 😂 All kidding aside your workouts, especially the arm ones (surprise!) and kettlebell HIIT workouts have been magic after years of trial and error
Hi Tracy- how do you feel about vibration plates? They are touted for helping many issues that women our age deal with such as osteoporosis (helps to increase bone density), joint pain, increasing blood flow, relaxation, and helping with lymphatic drainage. I just bought one to test out before buying one for my 87 year old mother to help her with bone density. I actually, initially, found this through horse trainers that use them. 🤔 Just curious if you have used or have an opinion on them.
I tried one years ago (at least a decade or more) when I worked at a gym. They are helpful but for most people adding in regular resistance training is sufficient.
Sorry, but this echo makes listening extreemly difficult😢 I had to turn the sound off, and go with subtitles to watch rhis episode 😂 Is there anything you can do to make it go away?
I'm your new subscriber, I like the way how you explain very straight forward. I'm 50 years old & I'm not in menopause yet coz every 4 months I still have my period, but thanks anyway for this topic.
I had my daughter at 41, and now I’m 51 I definitely have leakage. I tried kegel I really want to try the Emsella machine. I have tried it once but I can’t afford the full course of treatment.
I have a question: I suffer low blood pressure , and In summer Im almost feel always without energies and I cant even stand up (im.49 years old) what I should do?
Well Tracy 71 hysterectomy full at 26 I was fit weight well under controll.Retiered 4 yrs ago. Back an neck surgery at 36. This yr deep dive No exercise weight is comeing on Depressed for sure widow 14 yrs single.Really looking into wanting to date.Wish me luck got to get back on the horse.😊
What are your thoughts on getting 10,000 steps a day? I was trying get the steps including a workout and I think my cortisol got too high and started affecting my sleep. Also “rest days” how many steps?
I’d definitely suggest to not stress out! And anywhere between 5-12000 steps a day is great!! Walking helps you reduce your stress, increase longevity and improve mental health!
Do you think it’s also true for older, under muscled women that light weights is all they need? The experts are saying it’s harder to put on muscle when you’re older and that this is why the extra stimulus of lifting heavy is needed, but are you not finding this to be the case? It seems heavy lifting could really injure older people, and none of them really talk about how to go about it safely. :/
I was kind of surprised when I clicked on this video. I have to say I totally disagree with you on doing tons of reps with those baby weights. There are numerous studies showing women need to lift heavier. By heavier, it does not mean a 400 pound deadlift. But it does mean you need to challenge your muscles with progressive overload. Those 5 pound weights are not doing anything to build muscle anywhere on your body.
I disagree with your opinion on strength training. If your strength training does not increase muscle mass, then why do it? Why waste the time? We will loose muscle mass through atriphy each year and it will get harder and harder to maintain the muscle mass you have. Progressive overload is importantl yes, start small, but when you can easily lift the weight, let;s say ten times, you need to increase your weight. Until you can lift it again 10 times (for a set of 2 or 3). Then increase again. Everything else, is - from a muscle mass perspective, in my opinion, a waste of time.
Just addin, bc I cannot edit. Muscle burn is not the same as a stimulus for muscle growth. I can do resistant bands and get a burn, however, my muscle may not increase. Only progressive overload can do this, i .e., increasing your weight and resistant as you go. I can do arm circles and my muscles will burn, but that doesn;t do anything for my muscles. It is so difficult to gain muscle mass, don;t be afraid to lift heavier and heavier weightl be proud that you can, your physique will not change a lot anyway, becaus ein order to do so, you would need to dedicate a lot of effort and maybe even ped.

I’ve lost 40 pounds at 55 by only doing an hour on the peloton everyday. Not only that I have no more pain.

People are having babies in their fifties these days. Usually with some help, but still..

Pregnancy does not help with pelvic health. Ages you on a cellular level.
Younare a mim for a 4years old?did you adopted or is yours?to have a baby when you were in 45 is it normal?
Yes.
It’s not that unusual, Fumi Desalu Vold had her son at 49, she’s 55 now.
I had my baby at 40. I felt the best I ever have in my life when I was pregnant!

That’s why I do pilates on the reformer. And I’ve been a trainer for over 25 years 🙌
