- This was very easy. I really couldn't find anything on the Internet that helped me get through the firewall. I've heard that the newer explorers are very hard and that you may have to drill threw but this way was the best for me. Hope this helps.
Wow! Man it is people like you that keep this world operating! I had just spent about 45 min with a flashlight upside down and still have a kink in my neck. At one point I thought I was getting stuck. Then I said..some smart guy has already figured this out.....I hope...so I came inside...I owe you dinner or something! You nailed it! Thanks so very much for taking the time to make this video👍
Thank you Sir !!
This is actually really helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to wire up 2 10 inch subs in my 2013 and this solved my problem!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart after 2 hours we have made progress on an install
I was about to start the marathon process of going through the glove box when I found your video thank God I didn't do it that way your way was a dream
JARED RICHARDSON. Thank you so much for your comment. I'm so glad it helped !!
Super helpful. Descriptions are never enough, it's videos that makes the difference. Thanks!
Let me add that the video applies to the 2012 model as well. I just used the front hole, and if someone else is, the hole is essentially 2 holes that are diagonally across from each other. The easiest way to use it is to shine a flashlight in the top hole, then crawl under your car and look through it and you'll see how to thread something through. Use a stick or something with a thread on it and pull the cable through that way.
Christian, THANK YOU!!! I’ve decided to add an aftermarket amp and couldn’t find where to run my wire. This video did it all for me. Appreciate you man!!!
No problem.
Thanks man, you're right there's next to nothing for videos like this
I have a 04 explorer and running my 0guage thrue the factory wier gromit wasn't a option and my factory holls are a little different but in the same general area and it works berfect thank you for the idea man sereosly I was getting so frustrated
is there a specific whole under the steering wheel or what ? im looking to run 0 awg as well
Only suggestion I have it to put everything inside splitloom. Especially when it's outside the vehicle.
Hey thanks for the great video. Used it myself on the 2013 Ford Explorer worked like a charm
Thank you for this video sir!
You're the man! I was searching my 2014 explorer for an hour before finding this video, thanks a ton man, helped me out a bunch on this one
No problem !!
Christian Salvitti just ran power and ground through that same grommet! Thanks again man
You sir, are a gentleman. Thank you for saving me hours of wasted time. Currently working on an LED bar and aside from removing the bumper, the firewall has been the biggest pain.
Great video for those worrying about the body movement slicing wires just buy wire loom. And if there are specific “sharp” edges where you’re worried about just wrap the loom in black tape or something. Should be fine!
Your video was very helpful for me. I can attest that it is the same on the 2017 Explorer as your 2014. Saved a lot of time and frustration after watching.
The one thing I did was installed on the underside of the body some heavy duty mold able thick adhesive strip with aluminum on the outside to protect the wires I was running.
I'm glad it help. And yes, that's a great idea for the underside.
So glad I found your video, have the same year Explorer, thank you for posting this!
Thanks for your comment !!
Thank you very much for this very helpful guide. Ford Explorer 2016.
Thank you Christian,
This allowed me to finish the LED bar on my 2017 Explorer.
Glad it helped !!
My man ! Thank you for making the video !
Thank god for your video saved me hours of time and a customer! 👍🏼
Glad it helped !!
Thanks for the video. Much easier than drilling or the glovebox.
Christian, your video was spot-on. I have a '14 Explorer and the grommets were right where you said they were. I had a bit of a challenge snaking the wire through the fender well, but persistence paid off. There is a little channel in the fender well (from the bottom) that you have to hit, but it can be done. I had sort of given up on finding an easy way into the engine compartment. I have a document that explains how the police cruisers are wired up, but that involved taking out the glove compartment, which I did, and then the grommets were not there. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
Bruce Barnes .Thank you for your positive comment. Means a lot to me. I wish you would have asked me how to get up the wheel well because it took me a minute. I could of told you an easy way. Lol. And yes, getting through the glove box is nearly impossible. Once again thanks.
@@Fatality04 I'm currently working on an install for my 2017 Explorer and I swore for three hours trying to use the wheel well! Any advice?
@@emslife8444. You have to pull out a few push pins on the wheel well and just pull back the plastic. If your still having issues let me know and I'll show you in a video.
@@Fatality04 sounds good I'll let you know if I have issues when I get a chance to try again. Thanks.
@@Fatality04 lol stuck in that same place of the fender, did yours have a ton of sound deadnening on it making it harder?
This video was a savior! I was running two speaker wires from the engine compartment into the cabin. I used a metal rod to go from the small opening in the hood to the underside of the car by the wheel well. Once I got it through, I taped the wires to the end of the rod and snagged it through. Put it through the grommet and done. Thanks for the help!
No problem !!
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.
Great video. Worked for me on a ‘16 Explorer. Thanks!
Dylan Schwacke. Glad you liked the video. I'm happy that it worked out for you.
2002 Ford Explorer drivers there is a rubber boot near steering column you can use above brake pedal
Thanks for that I got a 02
@@wilsoncurtis-collins5511 all cars should have that boot near the steering column.
@@tonysantana6747 5th gen its not an easy spot under the dash. You have to break out 7mm sockets to get to that and fuses inside the dash. You also need muscle relaxers from the angle you laid to get the bolts out if you didn't pull the entire seat and lay on the floor.
Thanks. Very easy instructions.
Your a blessing. Thank you
Holy crap! Thanks dude! Inwas dreading this!!!!
Good video! Did the same thing to run a power wire for my amp on my 08 Explorer a while back, it works great.
bassomattic500. Thanks for the comment !!
Yea thanks man!!
Finally! Thank you sir.
Erich Greer. Thanks for watching. I'm glad it helped.
Glad I searched this up. I was about to go through my firewall. I have an 18 so lets just hope its on there aswell.
Was it?
@@ZerotoSixtyCarVideos Yes, I run all my wiring through it. Thank you so much!! now I need to install a toggle switch for my signature lights.
Awesome!, thank you so much!
Sold. That works. Thanks.
Big help thank you
Thanks for making this
Np !!
Thanks for the video 👌🏼👍👌🏼👍
Sergio Berganza. I'm glad it helped.
Getting ready to tackle this on a 2017. Hoping it’s the same!
Thank you
Hi i am installing front camera on my 2013 ford explorer thank god for this video
sihamdejerez. I'm glad it helped you out !!
Was your 2013 the same as this 2014? I have a 2013 that I am about to install a ham radio in.
Darrell Jordan. Yes, it's the same. Follow the video. Everything will be the same.
Thank u so much man
No prob
I appreciate it thx
Thank you!
No prob.
F'ing Awesome... Thank You Sir...
You my friend just saved me a shit load of trial and error trying to find a decent safe way from the front to the back...

Thanks for making this video! I also am going to install a push bumper on my same year Explorer. I have seen a few vids for doing that on similar year Explorers. I was hoping you might have had an install vid for the bumper, too. But I also have a light bar I am going to install in the same fashion as you have it and was searching where a firewall grommet was and found your vid. Glad I did, seems like it will be much easier to use one of the two options you show here than trying something else. And how to run the wire for the light bar (whats the easy rout trick?). But if you have any other tips for installing the bumper, or light bar, please feel free to let me know. I will get the bumper in a couple days, and hope to get installation going on it asap with the light bar. I assume I'll have to drill a couple mounting holes for the light bar mounts on the bumper anyways.
I also want to find some room for an air horn set up with an air tank, compressor and some high psi 150db air horns. But I don't think with the size of the air tank, there is any room to mount it on the undercarriage, in the engine compartment, or behind the grille or bumper.
Thanks for your comment. For the push bar you don't have to drill in the bumper. I took the bumper off and drilled into the front crash bar. (The bar behind the bumper). Then the brackets will fit through the grill. And as for the wiring of the light bar. The easy way is to use the grommets that's in the video and then go up the wheel well. Just pull out a few of the push pins and peel back the plastic. Then the wire will come up into the engine bay. Wire to battery and done.
@@Fatality04 Glad I found and was able to revisit this video for a refresher. Already got the push bumper installed. Now got a 18" LED light bar I got wired like that to the battery. However, I am going to order an aftermarket fuse block and wire that to the battery and station it nearby. No more wiring to the battery for any other accessories, just plug and play in to the fuse block. I don't like the switch that came with the wiring harness though, it's one that needs a hole to sit flush with the dash paneling. But I think I can wire up some flat backed switch with double sided sticky tape instead.
I'll have to get some silicone to seal up the E brake area I put a piece of corrugated plastic wire covering around it to help protect it on the sharp metal edge. So I can waterproof it again. The forward grommet I couldn't get to. But I had an old piece of TV cable line I was able to shove it up from the bottom, and fish it out to get my wires all run down the fender. I didn't have any wire hangers to use. I should get one to keep on hand in the garage for such instances.
Thanks
Thanks for this! I've been working on trying to follow the existing harness through the firewall. It's very tight. Haha! Is there a reason you opted to not use the battery accessory lugs next to the terminal connection?
Kevin Brammer. Thanks for watching the video. I'm glad it helped. When attaching wires to the battery I always try to use the main terminal.
easy thanks
Will this be the same principle with a 13 ford edge ?
Thanks you
Beeen trying figure it out for days
This grommet worked good to get the cables through a 2015 sport. I worry about the body of the car slicing the cable over time and shorting out. The fuse would blow so not really worried about a fire.
He doesn't say it but the best way through the grommet if the wire is small enough would be to tape a paper clip to the end of the wire and push it through the grommet. Then it would be through the grommet and sealed.
Straighten out the paper clip too obviously lol
And the Hack work of the year award goes to....
Super 👍😉😀
Did you have to add more wire to your switch inside the truck? If so, which type and size did you use?
I did not have to add wire to the switch. However I went to an auto part store and bought a new switch because I didnt like the one that came with the wiring harness.
Does anyone know if the 2007 Explorer or Sport Trac has these entry points?
Not sure bud but it will only take you a few mins to find out...
Did you find a spot. I'm looking for one now for a 1/0 guage lol
@@SloejoeKC816 I drilled a hole :(
Will 1/0 fit thru either?
Oh yeah !! No problem
All cars have...., should be a hole by the driver side. If not Do it the old fashion way... get a drill and find a clean spot on both sides around the steering Colom and drill a hole that’s it.

That´s not through the fire wall, that´s under and outside of the car. A terrible ide!
