  • In this latest VLOG, I have the unique opportunity to train with Phillip Velayo. Phillip is more than just the man behind the camera - he comes with an impressive background as a former Marine Scout Sniper Instructor and he's currently an active competitive shooter. This training session immerses us in his world, focused on the art and science of long-range precision shooting. This is a realm where every detail counts, from the way you breathe to the minute adjustments on the scope. As someone new to this, it was a fascinating and challenging experience that pushed me well beyond my usual comfort zone.

    Phil is the man. Good job learning what he taught. Now go get your own rig and practice practice practice.

    as a fellow sniper, *THAT* was a cool video! everything he was telling you was correct - albeit *VERY* watered down for a "day one beginner". some of the higher level concepts boiled down to easy to understand basics. and, let's be honest: EVERYONE LOVES TO HEAR THE "TING" when bullet hits steel!!
    it's fun! and there is SO MUCH more to learn... but it *all* comes down to the basics. LOVED watching this!

    I watched a Demolition Ranch quite a while ago. Who's the little guy he used to hang with that was a sniper and has his own channel. You know the dude thatbuilt the new house and used to buy storage lockers? Anyway, I watched them very closely in a long distance target vid. The little guy made it look easy, as he is no doubt a very well trained and highly skilled marksman. What I noticed is that once he had the crosshairs where he wanted them, he blocked out all the other imputs, noise, wind, etc and "took the shot" I swear IIRC he hit every single thing he was trying to. The Demo Ranch guy just over thought it and missed 50% of his shots which were the same targets as the little dudes. Our military and LE snipers have to be the best in the entire world. Just watching them on these various vids makes my jaw drop. The coolness, the total chill attitude, and the ability to hit the target is mind boggling. One of my greatest regrets as an old guy is that I never enlisted. My number was never called in the Nam draft and I took that as a sign. Looking back, I should have served. I would have loved to go through the training and learn the discipline of a well trained military member. My hat is off and I'm grateful to all serving now and those who've served in the past. God Bless all of you, and of course all the LEO's and First responders out there. Thank you! I'm old and a very average marksman, but I love going to the range and shooting steels at distance. Great video

      I believe the former sniper you're talking about is Nick Irving. Could also be the guy from the LunkersTV channel, if that helps you find him.
      Thank you for sharing your regrets. You can give that to younger guys like me, and it's our job to listen. A lot of young people forget that. I've heard a lot of older men say the same, that they regret not joining.
      I'm 20, headed to the Army. Taking my ASVAB on 10/01. Wish me luck

      @@DJ_Z_2004Hey man, my hat is off to you, congrats. You nailed it too, the guy I was talking about is Lunkers. It's been so long since I've watched DR or Lunkers, I'd forgotten. Lunkers is just about as good a marksman as I've seen. When I said the word "cool" in my previous comment I was referring to his mind set and ability to stay stay so chill with such challenging long distance targets. I hope you do great in the Army and stay safe while you're enlisted. All the best to you. 👍

    Listen, first, I think Phil is great and I learn a lot from his videos, so I’m not bagging on him. He just forgot to have you set up your diopter on the scope and then have you adjust the parallax. If you don’t do these things it will be difficult to have good repeatable shots and good groups at any range. I know he knows this and I’m sure it was just an oversight in the moment. I forget to teach things at times as well. Just make sure you figure those things out on your own rifle. I also have never used a trigger cam before and don’t know how it attaches to the ocular lens.

    Laughing how Americans say "Seven Tenths" when reading metric units. Understandable as it's a carry over from using fractions in the imperial system.
    Most Metric using countries would just say "Zero Point Seven" as it is 0.7 MIL. Seven Tenths isn't technically wrong but I find the Americanism fascinating.

    • @atlas_sim
      @atlas_sim Місяць тому

      Seven tenths (when used properly) expresses the required precision of the measurement. 0.7mm is not the same as 0.70mm when it comes to measurements. And 0.70mm is not the same as 0.700mm. 0.7 can be +/- 0.05mm, 0.70mm can be +/- 0.005mm, 0.7000 can be +/- 0.0005mm. It's not "americanism" it's 'precision-ism'. lol

      However... LOL @PencilProper I was hanging out with a friend and we were discussing a dimension of 4.57mm and he tried to convert it into a fraction... SMH

    Great job! Its always great when you can learn from a pro, or very experienced shooter. I'll never be to the level that phil is, but i got into the game as a way of pushing my broken body in the competitive arena to an extent while improving my shooting ability. If nothing else comes out of you getting into this, you will be a far better hunter. Looking forward to the series

    Thank you sir for your service and also totally amazing upload, so many do not show the point of view from the shooters position, just how easy it is to move the weapon system and how easy its going to move, just your heart beat will make it move, thus shoot between each heartbeat and after a inward brath, Plus to read the wind call, just imagine if you have to make a wind call without a ballistic calculator ,your eyes and ears only . 🙌👍👌✌🦘
    I have shot a .223 at 1,000 yards and also at 1,100 yards with a grouping of less than 8" spread, the wind is the hardest thing to get right and especially if you do not have a mil dot reticle to use and adjust, i know you can use the scope to adjust, but with a f class .223 ( sorry its not a F class rifle ,but can be used as one if the owner wanted to).
    I have not shot a weapon at all for over 35+ years and do not have a gun licence or own a gun, i was shooting one of the F class shooters rifle in regional VIC in australia at Stawell and thank you to Wayne S for allowing me to shoot his .223. 👍👌✌🦘
