Completely true. And I'm ashamed to admit I've been guilty of it a couple of times.
I have kind of had the same problem. They always want me to teach them how to play the song in the band practice . So I spend all of my time to teach them songs in practice, therefore I can´t really rehersh for the shows ... great system right ... alot of people seem to think so.
I always say that to my bassist ... he is a lazy .......... bassist !
Agreeeeeeeddddd I'm in my school marching band/drumline and there we always learn music before hand etc so when I was in a band for awhile it was so bad/different because no one practiced or learned anything so it was such a different atmosphere

I haven't played in a band in 25 years and I don't miss it. Actually I found it very restrictive on my guitar playing as I was spending a lot of time playing simple 'popular' songs when I could have spent more time playing classical guitar or solos. And as much as a guitarist would love to do a fretburning solo over 'Walking On Sunshine', no one else in the band thought it was cool, lol.
I agree with you! Also, it's very frustrating when you spend a lot of time studying what pop session men did in the music history, and then, in your band, they want you just to play distorted power chords like a beginner because the song would sound empty. And don't talk about the numerous quarrels that you have because of the different points of view on almost everything...
I stopped playing in bands for all of the reasons given in the video and then some. He needs to make a video of why gigging sucks, and then play all the parts: the bar owner who lectures you on volume before you've even unloaded anything, the drunk guy who jumps up on your stage in the middle of the show, the racist looking for affirmation, the sound guy who shows up late and drunk and cuts your show short by almost 2 hours, the drunk dancing tattooed middle aged woman showing you the boobies and butt that actually should be covered at all times...

im a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer, so for a guitarist, Steve ACTUALLY plays drums pretty well
My last band had ALL of this problems, bringing girlfriends to the practice, the drug guy, the guy that plays their instrument when we are talking something important, the guy who says "I didn't have enough time"... and guess what!... I'm talking about the same guy.

So True! I've been in many bands before and wow - sometimes it's a chore to be friends with people after the fact (and during)
But is it weird after watching this several times I want to be friends with all of them? Guess I just miss my youth, although being in a band is a headache.
As a drummer though I can relate to playing while people are talking. You can't just sit at the drums and not play. 1) you need to play to tune just like everyone else, (unfortunately sometimes they are much louder), but also drummers are usually OCD or fidget constantly. You cannot just sit at the drums and NOT play, it's NOT natural. If you don't want us to play we'll have to stand up and walk away. And since we keep the time, it's like a switch goes off anytime someone starts playing, we need to join (to keep the time for them).
Although, I'll admit during class I was always banging on my desk or my leg or something. Drumming is awesome and has a way of consuming you. I've always got a song in my head and NEED to drum. Stevie does a very accurate representation of the situation though. I seriously love this video.

I hadn't played a gig since 2003 because every band I joined was dead in the water for similar reasons. My favorite was either the one where the bassist--out of his mind on pot and Xanax--absolutely insisted on wasting 9 months butchering cover songs, or the one with lesbian bassist/drummer duo who wanted to go all out and record professional demos and get t-shirts and stickers....after writing a whopping 3 songs. It didn't last a month.
