I was playing "Living On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi with my band. I had my lead guitar player barely plugged in a Marshall Amp. When the solo starts, He walked to the front of the stage to have the audience have a better look at the solo playing. But doing that, He pulled the jack and disconnect the guitar with the amp. And so, when he was playing the solo, He wasn't even plugged. And to make it even worse, after the solo he looked at the sound guy telling him to plug the guitar back into the amp. But instead of doing that, he asked him "Where do I plug this?" It was bad, man
Honestly the smaller audiences are more intimidating than the large crowds. You can actually note the facial features on every person in the crowd at that point so it amplifies the terror factor, plus shows that small increase the likelihood of you interacting with the crowd in a meaningful way either before, during, or after the show.
When I last played live, during a song, I had a coke bottle thrown at me. I was like “that’s new” in my head but barely anyone noticed except for the band. I also reminded myself that most of the audience were drunk teens, and that they were not in a right mind set. That only happens once tho. Another time, I had to do a full song, and ran out of total breath at the end of it. I was literally gasping for breath by the time the song was done. But then I did another, and it went totally fine.
I was playing a festival and wasn’t on until the last two songs. I couldn’t make it for the soundcheck, but I’d played these songs a few dozen times. I finally get onstage and my in ear monitors are dead. Fine, I just stand near the floor monitor. Second song the singer decides to change the intro, but I can’t hear what’s going on. I look at the other guitarist and realize I’m playing the wrong part. I look out and see how big the crowd is, and I froze for a few seconds. Bass player looks at me, yells a chord, and I get right back into the song like nothing happened.
In 1970or 71, at 12 or 13vyears old my guitar strap came off and my guitar fell face down while playing live. That was before strap locks were available. On another ocassion our lead singer forgot his mic. at home. On a third live play our rythym guitarist had a battery failure on his guitar and no spare battery, we had to delay our start time so he could go to the store to get a new one. Then there's outdoor concerts, last summer we had three called off due to rain two hours before the show, I wonder how many will be called off this summer? Another time playing outdoors at the start of the show the wind kicked up, the sky went dark, picknick umbrellas we flying, then all but around 25 of our audience evacuated, just in time for the sun to come out again. Here's another, I just walked onstage around four year's ago to see our guitarists prized guitar fall off it's stand, it's headstock snap just after the nut, good thing he brought a spare!!! When you play live anything can happen, you litterally need to have two of everything as a spare. These are just a few of the many problems we ran into playin live.
If you read my comment above, I am forgetful. Not good to forget your backups. I survived these failures, but it made for a not so enjoyable experience on my end. I'm also a lead singer from behind the drums.
@@akimi_chenkual Yep, when you play live shit happens occasionally. Just last Saturday we playing an all acoustic show, WELL my acoustic preamp ( six songs in and in the middle of a song) shorted out inside my guitar!!! Had to play the rest of our four hour show with a Telecaster, and yeah it wasn't good !!!! Things break, stop working and ocasionally short out, as well you forget to bring something you need desperately but fortunately most shows go great as a rule, that said you never know til it happens and its always a surprise !!! Rock on Brother 🤘😉 keep playing!!!
@RikuKH yeah maybe start with one or two small shows, and if he's fine he can do more... But DF also have their schedule and need someone who can jump in and play all songs etc.
My biggest problem live is when my hands decide to stay in the dressing room. I was in a cover band and we were playing Detroit Rock City. I had to do Ace's solo part in the middle of the song, ya know, when it's just him playing, then the other guitar comes in for the harmony. It's not hard at all and I played it no problem in practice but as soon as it was an all eyes on me scenario, my hands wouldn't work. It was so embarrassing, all I could do was laugh.
I feel ya Stevie. I have always been a musician with anxiety issues as well. I used to just push through and get on stage anyway. These days it’s just a hobby.

Then Lee gets close to him and Steve gets excited just when he just asks him to be their motherfucking triangle player! Don’t you understand how imagination and jokes work? I mean WTF! There’s no limits for imagination for Christ sake!
I once played the entire bass solo to Angels & Insects without realising I had unplugged my bass during a dance move. I just plugged it back in and kept rocking 😎
Hey Stevie T I would like to say a big thank you because I was about 8 and I fount your channel and it left me laughing all day. Your channel is amazing and I of course Subscribed to you. I am now an OG and it feels amazing. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I’m 12 I was playing at my school with my whole grade watching and I dropped my guitar and I broke it I don’t do well with crowds so I just left the stage and sat in the hallway without saying a word
My worst time playing live was when a country band called me on stage to play lead for them in a private party, at the host’s request. Motherfuckers hand me a hollowbody guitar connected to a fender amp, for playing the gucking lead. And me, being the metal/hard rock girl that I am, I was scared shitless, and I froze big time. Until a couple of bars in, I heard in Obi Wan’s voice inside my head “Use the blues scale”, and I played something kinda “decent”, kinda... The audience and band told me it was a good solo, but from my point of view I played like if Nick Jonas and lil Wayne had a baby, looking at the video it was also kinda decent too. Knowing that, never again, I’m not playing another clean lead in my life, at least not in a genre I played literally once in my life (that ocasion I was talking about)
If you had FUN- it was definitely a plus. But it seems like you may not have had fun, so you should learn- NEVER go to a party where they may hand you a hollow body guitar thru a Fender amp! lmao. I'm giving you a hard time, cuz I have no idea what Nick Jonas is and don't think Lil Wayne was around when I was ........ well, anything. Seriously, if the crowd is having a good time, it's probably worth it. If YOU'RE having a good time, it's DEFINITELY worth it! But before my double Black Tooth Grins say too much- good luck with your future endeavors!
dude I feel you with the anxiety part, yesterday I was literally taken to the ER because I was so worked up I felt like I couldn't breathe but I perfectly could.
Depending on the levels of anxiety, it can honestly be impossible to leave the house. You can stand at the threshold of the open door and pass out or go into seizures at the thought of having to do that. It is a hell of a way to live.
One of the best concerts I've seen was a Metallica show where the stage fell apart and they fake all of the power going out, then they come back and start playing acoustic then go back to normal in the middle of a song. Some guy even fell out of the rafters and someone else was on fire. Pretty sweet. Maybe '96 or 97.
When I was playing a party with my band years ago, in between songs a drunk girl came up to the stage and motioned with her hand for me to come close to her. When I got my face down close to her to hear what she was saying, she punched me square in the nose and screamed, "your guitar playing sucks! I can play better than you!"

Stage story: In one band that I was in, we were playing “Highway To Hell” and, for a goof, I did “The Angus”. Here’s the kicker, I wasn’t wearing my glasses and without them I am literally blind without them. While playing it and doing “The Angus”, I failed to see a large stack of chairs and played my way directly into the stack of chairs.

Here’s some things that happened to me live while I was performing (in one show): 1: drummer forgets to end song 2: singer forgot the lyrics 3: guitarist breaks string live and has to use a crappy Indiana guitar
correct and to over exert yourself to think its always gong to happen, you should just believe that its not a big deal...in some ways it is but stop over exerting yourelf
It is the exact opposite for me, to an extent. I have anxiety in front of people, and always get really nervous. But playing in front of a large crowd was actually ok sort of, because they were just blurry as we thrashed through our set. I could only really see the front row in between headbanging and breaks in songs. It was basically just a big sea of blurry people, and that didn't bother me as much as having to give an oral report in front of 15 classmates. NOW THAT, almost paralyzed me with fear. And I never like playing in a room for like 5 friends or whatever, when my wife says "oh he can play guitar! Come on play something for them". I never do. I hate it. But I love an actual show. I guess the adrenaline helps also. No adrenaline sitting in a room with 5 people just to show them you can play something
I fell of a 1,5 meter high stage in the first song during a festival in Latvia. I got blinded by the stage light and didn't see the edge. I got up again though hehe.
I really miss playing live. That being said, I’ve had some very “interesting” experiences on stage. My band played a Halloween party at a local bar one year. My costume was Brittany Spears (good choice for a 200 Lb dude). Halfway into the night as the crowd was getting rowdy, one of our friends came up on stage to dance around, and decided to cop a feel. In the middle of playing a song (I don’t remember what tune it was) I was groped in places I didn’t know I had. I kept my composure and kept playing, but the emotional scars still linger. Also, at another gig our vocalist at the time decided to get up on the bar during a song (gotta love wireless mics). When he got back to the stage his head was bleeding. While he was up there the industrial sized ceiling fan got him. He survived and finished the gig.
Personally, playing live is the reason i love music, that feeling of your guitar litterally completely filling a venue, the power behind that, and knowing that everyone in the audience is feeling the music, its q lot more personal and rewarding than watching spotify numbers increase personally. But i must admit, if you have a particularly important show, you feel sick before it
That is like my goal to play live even just for a few people at the bar. Just the feeling of playing your part really well and the audience digging it would be like the best feeling in the world to me. I've been practicing seriously for the last few years looking for a cover band now.
The feeling you have during a good gig. I mean almost every time something goes wrong, it's almost impossible to not have issues of any random kind. But if there is a connection between yourself and the audience... gold!
@@jicklesjingles8134 i seem to get lucky with technical issues, i break strings and cables but i always have a spare guitar and spare cables at every gig for a quick fix

Im sure you'll get song gigs some day, the day you get ur first one will be one of the best of ur life!
I completely understand!! I was also diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). I love a crowd, but have a huge problem talking in front of a lot of people
forgetting lyrics, forgetting band members names while introducing them lol, forgetting where we are, tripping falling , blinded by stage lights and losing my pedal board , all of the above
So glad you mentioned the generalized anxiety disorder. I'm a lifelong sufferer, along with quite a few family members. I feel like people who have it, do have very different lives from people who don't. I do not feel that this necessarily means we have less of a quality of life, just that we live our lives in ways that can seem somewhat depressing to people without the disorder. For instance, I haven't been to SEE a live show in over a decade, because of my anxiety. I love the fact that I can see live shows on my TV screen, and enjoy it to the fullest. To some of my friends, this seems lonely, but it's how I am comfortable. I still love it! It's something that isn't talked about enough, but it really helps when someone well-known brings up the topic.
My only live performance was my senior year talent show, and I was on acoustic guitar and my friend sang, when we did sound check, both of our mics worked. But then a few minutes before we went on, we were told that one of the mics quit working so we had to share a mic. It wasn't that bad. But for my only live performance, it's funny how something went wrong.

These are just a few of the many problems we ran into playin live.
this comment deserves more likes.

@RikuKH ikr, but I can't blame him. Maybe he will explain it again.

Knowing that, never again, I’m not playing another clean lead in my life, at least not in a genre I played literally once in my life (that ocasion I was talking about)
Damn I was hoping there was going to be a video for that 😂
Oh, so I'm not the only one hearing Obi Wan.

- fans who join you on stage and won’t get off
- fans who stage dive and kick you whilst doing so
- fans screaming lyrics back at you and spitting saliva in your face and mouth
- inhaling and choking on your long hair
- guitarist strings snapping
- guitarist playing shit
- guitarist strap coming off
- guitarist lead gets knocked out
- blowing your voice out
- playing to an audience who just aren’t ‘feeling it’ that night
- shit getting thrown at you (only happened twice)
- the old “make some noise for the headliner!” *no one makes noise*
- head banging into your guitarists headstock and bleeding like fuck
- playing a live show if you’re feeling unwell
Here’s some things that happened to me live while I was performing (in one show):
1: drummer forgets to end song
2: singer forgot the lyrics
3: guitarist breaks string live and has to use a crappy Indiana guitar
At least one of those three things happens to every band at one time or another...
correct and to over exert yourself to think its always gong to happen, you should just believe that its not a big deal...in some ways it is but stop over exerting yourelf
Singer forgets lyrics is basically mandatory for every show I've done.
be grateful for that crappy indiana guitar, trust me it's wayyyyy better than no backup guitar at all...

The real reason Stevie Doesn't play live: he can't actually play and it's always been Jared Dines playing
Joking of course! I love you Stevie!

A guy i was in school with knocked his head on stage while headbanging lost his mind and fell into a pond off beer.
It amazing when the sound guy turns you down on an intro and or solo. I LOVE IT😅
I really miss playing live.
7:07 made me laugh like I was gassed by the joker.
EXACTLY, I WAS REWINDING IT POVER AND OVER AND OVER LMFAOOOOO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right?!
whahaha
WHY. SO. SERIOUS?
@@paterson90 i played a gig the other day in a small club, probably 30 people max, it was a great show, all the members of that band i was playing in can play all the instruments, so between every song we'd be handing each other our instruments, for the last song we punched through plug in baby by muse, i was on drums, the singers mic cable broke on the last chorus, we didnt even realise until it went that the 30 people were singing "plug in baby, crucify my enemy, and im tired of living" (i think those are the lyrics), it was just a fantastic experience, wasnt 30 thousand people, didnt need to be either. Im sure you'll get song gigs some day, the day you get ur first one will be one of the best of ur life!

Wow dude ! Get out while the gettin's good. A few mishaps, ok fine. But all that? You're cursed
You pretty much just described every ozzy concert I've been to
So glad you mentioned the generalized anxiety disorder.
This has got to be one of his best videos!
"Our sound guy SUCKS".
But Stevie, the lights were malfunctioning. The mic was working.
Kudos for Stevie T, being honest about anxiety, which raises awareness especially in a community of us musicians who are often dealing with the same issue, thanks Stevie!
