    LYRICS:
    Redemption Blues (Gavin Dunne 2011)
    My time is drawing thinner
I'm just a tired old sinner
No chips left on this shoulder
    No pride in growing older
But when your borrowed time is through...
    I'll be with you
    Redemption blues
    No man can truly outlast
All the mistakes of his past
There's no haven here for me
    That's safe from my memories
But when your borrowed time is through...
    I'll be with you
    Redemption blues
    I'll be with you
    Redemption blues
    And justice ain't no lady
    She's a twisted, battered whore
    She's laying bruised and naked
    On a bloodstained wooden floor
    Our days are over
Times have changed around these parts
    There ain't no more cowboys
    Only men with violent hearts
    Redemption blues
    (My time is drawing thinner)
(I'm just a tired old sinner)

No one gives uncle enough credit. He supported Arthur through thick and thin, repeatedly stood up to Dutch and Micah, helped John build his house and get his family back, and he gave his life for John's family. Uncle is awesome

one of my favorite camp interactions in RDR2 is Uncle calling out Micah for harassing Arthur because of his TB. Uncle really is a super underrated character. As John says, "he's useful, in a useless sorta way."

  • @Grimbur
    @Grimbur 6 років тому +74

Honestly, at first I didn't hear a real difference, but then I went back to the original and listened to them back to back, and compared single parts of the songs, and the updated intro alone already blew my mind. It's astonishing, how much difference slight nuances and details can make. The new versions feels alot more like the soundtrack of a western movie, what you were obviously going for. And your voice sounds way nicer too, more refined.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the song before, but the new version is just clearly better in any possible way. I think I didn't catch it at first, because it felt a bit like playing an HD Remaster of an old game. It looks and sounds and feels just like the original stayed in you memory, but if you go back and play that, you'll realise how bad the grafics were, and how clunky everything was.
You definitly honed your skills in the last seven years!

Wow man, this was incredible. I'm always impressed with your ability to cut right into the heart of a game or character. John marston was no different. You didn't make it about revenge or violence, It's all about Marston trying to be a better man. An excellent song, from an excellent artist, for an excellent game.

  • @MinniMaster
    @MinniMaster 6 років тому +31

This song makes you feel so many emotions. It’s sad, hopeful, somber, lonely, and strangely uplifting and depressing at the same time. One of the few songs I’d consider truly perfect, just like the game it’s based on.

  • @TheNukedNacho
    @TheNukedNacho 2 роки тому +22

My favorite line from this, aside from “There ain’t no more cowboys/Only men with violent hearts” has go to be “I’ll be with you.”
I personally feel as if it’s Arthur saying it to John. Even if he never mentions it, John’s always been thinking about his brother, the man who saved his and his family’s life. And so the last thing John says to Abigail is the same thing Arthur said to him; words he’s never been able to forget.
(And before you reply to this, other commenters. Yes, I know Arthur wasn’t even an idea when they made RDR1. It’s just how I feel about it)

Both the Red Dead "Redemption" games have a specific theme- change. Both games are about the ever changing world. Don't take nothing for granted. And remember, we've all gotta pay the price for our actions someday, but it really is never too late to do the right thing. So, don't give up, stay determined and do a loving act.
In memory of the Van Der Linde gang, especially John Marston & Arthur Morgan.

In regards to the last verse, that really sums up Rockstar games: the system can be just as corrupt if not more so than the criminals they prosecute. Especially since, in real life, more often than not the only fundamental difference between a successful criminal enterprise and a major successful business is whether or not you're allowed to bribe your way out of being prosecuted.

OH MY GOD! I Love this song!
Of all of your early work this is the song I listen to the most, it's so perfect, it seems to cover every possible corner of determination, regret, hope & loss. I always put it on if I need to focus on something difficult or uncomfortable to help me frame my state of mind to something productive.
SO happy to see this get an update! thanks Gav. If your in the game of remaking your old music would ya think of giving 'You Died' a touch up?

Now this, this is damn good. From all your older work, I'd say this was one of those select few songs with a certain timeless appeal, both musically and lyrically. And now you've gone and remastered it. Fantastic work!

I will admit that the first version 7 years ago was really good but it never caught me as something I'd listen to a lot.
I'm not sure if it's because I've aged and become a bit more cynical, but oh boy this remake/remaster's an INSTANT hit for me. I can't get it out of my head and I'm constantly humming it.

I was too young to appreciate Red Dead's story when it originally came out, but the remake of this song and the accompanying video make me want to replay it and reexperience the story after finishing Red Dead 2!! Thanks for the remake and the masterful original version of this MoS!!

    Oh my god
    This one gives me chills.
That small "western" guitar riff in the intro and in chorus is so fitting! As if it always have been there, in the original, but on the back of my mind, and now it has come to being hearable.
Idk :) Big love to you, Gav. You do create magnificent music & songs.

Yeah I love those Ennio Morricone style guitars - when I first made the song though I didn't have the tools, gear or knowledge of how to make that sound. 7 years changed a lot of things :D

I like the reuse of the words "There ain't no more cowboys, only men with violent hearts" as if it is a lesson John has learned from Arthur.
