About years ago a couple buddies and I sailed my hobbies 16 from Los Angeles to Catalina Island (about 25miles of open ocean) to camp on a nice windy day. It is still one of my coolest memories.
It was awesome! The tub was seriously one of the highlights too. There are woodland caribou on the islands that we didn't find, but maybe we'll return one year.
It was a BLAST! Great job on the video, Matt. Next summer?...There are a LOT of islands along the north shore! And I'm thinking I'm going to learn how to catch those tasty lake trout...
I loved my Hobie 16. So much fun. Maybe I’ll get another one some day. Great video. I lived near the ocean most my life and it’s hard for me to fathom those breaking waves are fresh water.
Awesome! The Slates would be a fun place for a Sunfish trip and you can totally trip with one. In case you haven't seen my Sunfish camping videos I'm including the link to that playlist. Sunfish Sailing Adventures: ua-cam.com/play/PLNcpRGw7T0bgCPwT85FSucfIhewgFrkXX.html
Funny you ask. I actually threw the invite out there the previous summer, and Bob who is in this video, responded through my UA-cam Channel. The now annual trip seems to be growing each year and we have 8 or 9 people interested for next year. I have considered doing more trips and really need to look into the insurance aspect of it.
Sounds like Bob had an issue with the support on his and then just made his own support with padding. It was a sweet setup that propelled both boats without trouble. He ran it at one third to half power to maximize efficiency. His solar panel charged it up 40% higher in a few hours of sun.
I've had the Torqeedo for 10 years. Had to replace the battery last year, $999 (minus $280 as an upgrade incentive from Torqeedo.) Had about $600 in repairs over 2 years. Runs great. I made a rubber support block because the mounting bracket cracked from bouncing. Pushes the boat at about 5 MPH at 1/4 power with 4 hour runtime. The "epropulsion" outboard looks interesting.
Well the cabin build is an adventure...but this kind of adventure will include three Hobie's sailing around the Apostle Islands for 5-6 days...amongst others.

That's awesome. The Hobie 16 is quite able. Always good to make those memories.
Love the part where you all are just dorking around on the 16🌊
That was super fun just playing in the waves.
Fun to watch this adventure! I'd love to do something like this
Is there anything stopping you?
perfect soup adventure!
Mmm. Human soup. It was awesome!
Looks like a great time

Thanks for the reminder to go have adventure with what you can afford & do it now.
Heck yeah! You're welcome. What's next for you?

I'm thinking similar. Northern superior, Michigan, or Huron, Florida, baja, voyageurs National Park, pictured rocks could all be options...

Don't wait for some day! The freshwater breaking waves are pretty common in Lake Superior.
What a fun adventure! Glad to see you and the crew back on the water, (with even more friends.)
Yes. That was an awesome group and felt like we had been traveling together for a while.
Thanks for sharing more of your sailing adventures! It was worth the wait!
You bet! The next one shouldn't be such a long wait.
Das sieht nach richtig Spaß aus 👍🤙
All I can think is "people soup" when everyone kept....oh nvm you literally just said "human soup" as I was typing. Ha!
That was a little gross to think about, but it was still so worth it.
Awesome adventure! I just got a Sunfish and would love to do such kind of trip!

Great trip! Thanks for sharing. How did you guys like that Torqeedo? Really looking at getting into electric outboards and ditching the Honda 2hp.

So what big adventure do you have set up for this summer?
