very few videos show the real struggle. It will be interesting to see also a video of the preparation of the boat to a trip like the croatian coast sailing. Great job!
my lessons from having to do such in open water, at times cold water - is dont even start to wrestle with the boat until you have a life jacket on... so many times by the time i had the darn thing righted and my crew aboard - i was so tired i could barely pull myself up.. i still have a life jacket from 25 years ago that really gained my appreciation in a situation like that.. life jackets. very handy.
I was thinking haul the water bag closer to the pontoon so it could asist with leverage. And tie a line to yourself in case you get smacked hard and the boat tries to blow away. Good lessons in how to right a capsized Hobie cat. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this video. Subscribed!
Igor, I like it that you are a multi purpose sailor, able to sail from small to big boats. I have my doubts that other sailing UA-camrs are able, too. Your sailing adventures through the North and through Croatia have been fantastic, but even the explanations about the rope handling let me learn something as an experienced sailor. As a sailor of similar qualities, I have a small boat (6m) on a lake, and I sail big boats (big cats, too) at the ocean (many spots). One remark to the capsized Hobbycat: why you did all this lifting mainly with pure muscles? One technique that I know is to stand (carefully) on the daggerboard. Another one is to climb on the top of the cat and to pull from there. The lift would have been much greater with lesser effort. Perhaps you can clarify this.
Thanks 🙏 That was first time capsizing that boat just to learn. There are many things to improve. I was afraid to damage daggerboards but I will try them next time. Problems were leaking water bucket, angle of righting pole. Probably need bigger bucket. Can make loop with line on end if righting pole to step in.
@@IgorStropnik Wait, what?!? You prefer a H16 over an FX One? Why is that? I used to sail a Nacra 5.2 but I rigged it exactly like your FX One. It was great fun!
Very importante video Igor, with a litle of wind its more easy to flip up the boat. the boat will naturaly turn to the head of the wind. I have an Hobicat 18.
Seeing you struggle with a bucket, then the righting stick, while you weight 100kg makes me wonder how I could recover a capsize on this cat model. And the water is flat with no wind 😅
Very difficult for one YOUNG, STRONG MAN to do. Even much harder in big waves 🌊 and strong winds. For an old f#ck like me, with most of the strength gone. This will be IMPOSSIBLE to manage. Thanks for sharing captain.
Wind will help you if you get the boat to the right angle. It will catch the trampoline and then help lift the sail out of the water. Just gotta be careful in strong winds you dont go back over the other side. But yes it can be exhausting and you need to be fit.
Mate your righting rope is several meters too short. I would not like to see you try this in a lumpy ocean or during a race and as for that metal bar under the tramp that is bloody dangerous. Would never use that on a sailing boat. Have sailed Nacra 18sq and many other boats over the years and never had trouble like you showed. Good luck.

Wow you drove down my biggest pet peeve about small cat sailing
Wow, that was a fantastic demonstration of the idea that "intention is cause". VERY INSPIRING. And it takes skill and enough strength also. THANK YOU!
Thanks 🙏
Sorry not that was scary to watch with no wind blowing and no waves. More work need to be done for sure.

Nothing like reality, with waves and serious wind.
That’s how you start…
It's actually easier when it's windy when wind helps lift up the mainsail from blowing beneath

You could install an EZ Righter shroud extender to allow the weight of the upper hull assist your weight in righting
Good idea 👍 or eat more pizzas 🍕😃
Not so easy! Could stand on the daggerboard?
Will try daggerboards next time. Or just eat more 🍕 over winter.
@@IgorStropnik I wouldn’t manage with my 68kg!!

how tall are you and your weight?

is there are chance to come and see this catamaran? lets say in person. where are located? If you available. Kind regards,
It’s disassembled and stored right now as using H16.
@@IgorStropnik no problem. appreciate for your answer. Really inspired to get one Hobie for my self.

@@sail4life Just wanted to try H16. FX sails bette.
Good video, how did you install a jib in the fx one??
Thanks 🙏 Jib is original.
I wonder if you can use the anchor for more flipping leverage... anyway great Video :)
Thanks 🙏 Water bucket is heavier.
@@IgorStropnik good to know : )
Fantastic! very dificult
Will get easy with few adjustments and practice.
Igor j'ai forcé avec toi ! 😁 Monter sur les dérives...j'ai essayé sur un HC18 Formula : le craquement m'a vite fait arrêter...avec mes 85 kg !
So with my 100kg no cracking but just crack 💥 😳👍🙌🍻
This cat is beautiful
Agree 👍 it’s beautiful 🤩

Hvala 🙏 Hitro je lahko problem ja.
Easier with trapeze harness; just hook on the righting line....for the first lifting, which is most difficult..
Good comment and 100% correct. Longer rope too but that metal pole under the tramp is an injury waiting to happen.
looks like a pain in the BUTT!
Maybe easier if you douse the main?
You did well..
🙌🍻
Bravo
No, this is not the Hobie Bravo.
great video, awesome info, concise......great

moral of the story, get a Hobie 16, much easier....;)
Much easier to capsize? 😀😂
