RadioMaster TX16S Setting Up A Fixed Wing “Safe” Throttle

  • In this tutorial video I go through the process of setting up a safe throttle for your fixed wing models. When a model uses a flight controller the FC controls the safe arming of the model but with fixed wing planes we normally do not use FC’s. This video shows you how to set up a safe throttle.
    I purchased my TX16S from the Flying Robot Co in Cape Town. This is not an affiliate link but I want to share where you can get yourself a RadioMaster TX16S in South Africa.

    Thanks for watching.
    Happy Flying.

    Bill, thanks for taking the time to explain TX16S Setting Up A Fixed Wing “Safe” Throttle.
    I really liked the way you explained both the setup through Companion and how to program
    TX16s directly into the program without Companion. I am have difficulty Companion and
    and I was impressed as how easy it was to program directly.

    Bill a simpler setup. Do not do any programming in the mixer page but add ch3 override to -100 when !L2 . Then there is no need to do a custom CUT curve as well. Thanks

      Something I came accross: when following your instructions for the TX settings, I noticed my Thr screen shows a vertical line moving from left to right in the graphic, not the 45° I see in the video. Never mind, it's a result of the logical switches... It works now.

    I followed your instructions step-by-step but ran into a problem. After putting into the safe mode and then going back to the armed mode the throttle would not re-engage even though I put the stick in the -100 position for several seconds. I just received my TX16s a few days ago. Has Radiomaster made some changes so that your setup doesn't work? I checked my work twice and it was still a no go. :(

    Great video Bill, I have learnt alot from you in the past month. Sorry for the newbie question, have you ever bumped the switch mid flight? Does it still take .5 seconds for the reset to occur?

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  3 роки тому +1

      That’s a really great question. No I have never inadvertently disarmed my model mid flight but yes you would need to drop the throttle for the delay time for the motor to run again. I think the risk of accidentally arming on the ground and hurting yourself is out weighed by the rearming delay. Your plane will not drop out of the sky with no motor and will glide under full control until you arm again. You would not use this safe throttle on a quad copter because the Flight Controller takes care of the arming and disarming process. No need to apologise for asking a question I am here to help and we were all new to this fantastic hobby once.

    bill i have a question.my throttle is calibrated.but with one plane(bigfoot high wing)my engine doesnt start spinning untill i am reading -72 percent throttle.My small corsairs engine starts spinning when the throttle is lifted and hits about -87 percent.I am alright with a little bit of play,but is this correct?.The bigfoot is alot of play before motor starts.28 percent "play".Am i suppose to adjust this "play" out with the throttle trim?.seems like i didnt have to do this with my dx6i.(they all just had a tiny amount of play or uptravel before motor engaged).

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, just add a line to the elevator mix in Mixes, select the slider you want to use under Switch. I would suggest changing the weight to a lower percentage because if you leave it 100 it would be easy to put the plane into the incorrect attitude. I would set the mix to a switch rather than a slider so when the switch is activated the elevator will only move the set amount. You could then add a sound when the switch is activated saying launch mode. I will make a video of this for you.

    • @the-happy-RC-flyer
      @the-happy-RC-flyer  2 роки тому

      Hi David, this is an interesting by product of the safe throttle set up. I only fly electric planes so a safe throttle is very important because the motor will power up with throttle forward but a glow engine will not so a safe throttle is not so necessary. You can get the trim to work by lowering it pass Center and down to the lowest position. I have never come across this because we do not use throttle trims for electric motors. Please lower the trim to the bottom and let me know if it solves the problem. You could still use an arm switch to turn the throttle channel on and off. I think the throttle trim is changing how it works because the safe throttle uses a logical switch but I am not 100% sure. You helped me learn something today!😃

      Needed to complete the model you require a full range, 5+ Channel DSMX / DSM2 transmitter. As for the SAFE Function I have no idea because it may require the model's receiver to be connected to a Spektrum Transmitter and not work with an OpenTX transmitter.
