Enjoyed the episode! It is the return to a more simple time when we were children. No cell phones. No internet. What younger people don't have a base of reference to understand is that an arcade truly was magic. It was mind blowing. There was nothing else like it. The sights, colors, lighting, sounds all mixed together and even the smell of electronics have forever permeated my mind. Now we are grown ups. Forty something years later, when we find these old machines in a barn, storage unit, basements, and other forgotten places, it is like finding an old friend. I have found it an amazing pleasure to fix them and watch them come to life again! I started a few years ago with one game. There are now thirteen. Sometimes I like to turn them all on and just watch and listen to them try to tempt me to drop a quarter, just like they did when I was a child. Thanks Ralph for sharing your love of all this. I get you.
Dude, I'm right there with you man. I wish my kids could have witnessed the magic of the arcade's back in the day. My favorite part of your comment is then you said sometimes you just turn them on and look at them. I do the same thing and it brings back some of those memories. These games were all so mysterious to me as a kid. Who made this, how did they make it... just such a cool hobby and much respect for you doing the restoration work as well. We need to keep these alive for future generations to appreciate. Thanks again my friend!
Ralph, I love your stuff, and what this series really captures are the reasons why people love 'their' times. And the awesome part is, is that everyone's story is specific to them, and that is never the same for everyone else.
For me, my favorites represent what I had access to in Australia and when I first saw them. Space Invaders was the first arcade I ever saw, at a random fish and chip shop. I was absolutely mesmerized and I didn't even get to play it. Then I'm pretty sure it was Donkey Kong at a pizza joint!
At our local footy club, we had two games, Centipede and Scramble. My brother and I used to play Centipede until the ends of our fingers hurt from the trackball, and Scamble we could eventually clock it when one of us controlled the ship, and the other shot and dropped the bombs. Galaga is another favorite.
They were unsurpassed until I saw Outrun. WOW! While other games like Pole Position were great, my god, Outrun was next level...
Thanks for keeping is stuff alive mate, and for introducing us to others that are doing the same!
Thanks for sharing that bud, I really appreciate it! I agree, the first time I saw outrun it was NEXT LEVEL! I haven't seen a deluxe outrun in a while but that one always blew my mind. Same with the deluxe after burner.
@@RetroRalph agree, with Afterburner. Unfortunately haven't seen the deluxe version of that, but I've seen a deluxe G-Loc! Keep up the good work mate 👌
Such a good watch man. Great stories told throughout 💞🕹
Best part of the arcades was the community. Especially in the early 90's.
The episode was fun to watch till the end. Better edited than the first episode I think. When Pac-Man came out I remember seeing it for the first time in a bowling centre and was amazed by the animations and sounds. I was about 22 at the time and used to the ZX Spectrum 48k. Yes, nostalgia!
Wow! What an awesome dude! And awesome collection! Thanks retro Ralph 👌👌👌
No, thank you for watching and supporting the show.
Growing up, we had a Tempest machine. I miss it. I also miss our Royal Guards pinball machine.
I had to pass up a Tempest Cocktail last year. That hurt.
Thanks for this! Great video. The collector that wants to share is a rare thing.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO AND THE NOSTALGIA THAT IT HAS!!! VERY GOOD STUFF! ENJOYING THIS VID FROM PUERTO RICO 🙋🏼♂️ MANY THANX!
I grew up in the '80s and have a great amount of nostalgia for arcade games as well. I understand. The lights, the sounds, the action, the pressure, the social interaction. Quarters might as well have been made of gold. I would skip lunch at school so I could use my dollar of lunch money to play Space Invaders for a short time. There was something deep and magical about arcade machines that could not be replicated at home with Atari and the like. Everything was better in the arcade. The best might have been the pizza joints, maybe after a ball game, or a birthday party. The smell of pizza and cigarette smoke, combined with the sounds and lights of those machines was just pure bliss for a kid.
That Dragons Lair 2 cabinet is the same cabinet my Tekken 2 is in. It all makes sense now! AMAZING EPISODE! I love this show so much. Bravo Bravo Ralph and Mason you guys are THE BEST. Davis’s collection warehouse is so amazing thanks for all the hospitality you allow for the arcade gaming community to see your setup 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You rock my dude! I can't thank you enough for supporting me from the very start!
Rastan (or Rastan Saga as we had in our local arcade!) is one of my all time favourite games! Spent an unhealthy amount of money and time on this one but did master it in the end to the point where I would have several lives left at the end to sacrifice to up my score! Awesome memories from my childhood :)
David Is Such A Legend in This Arcade Collecting World..!!! 😎🕹🏆🔌
I would never leave his warehouse!! Just way to awesome!! I see to many games that I would love to play or own!! Good show👍🏻
Thank you so much for watching! David’s place is awesome, there’s always something new to look at. I usually don’t want to leave so I feel the same way.
"I'm a mad Pac-Man, livin' in a leveled world"
Perhaps the coolest thing I spotted and kept seeing was nestled in the middle of a bunch of cabs ............ The Cuphead machine !
I saw a Robocop cab in his collection 😍😍😍 one day man! I will get my own Robocop cab for sure!
Thanks for making these awesome episodes!
✌🏼😎👍🏼
Yeah awesome episode and seeing this I need to go to my arrcade.
And if Ralph ever comes to The Netherlands he needs to make a episode about our museum here.
That person haves over more than 100 cabinets. 🙃
Edit - 9:30 .. awesome to see the inside .. Lasssserrr DISC !! 😨
12:37 ow.. yeah would go play there for hours and hours 😂
(They have Ricky & Morty Pinball... yes would love to have that machine myself)
14:57 - ok that is awesome those custom cabinet painter parts... pure arcade art ! 🤗
Thank you my friend for always supporting me, it means a lot! You're the best! #WickedPinga
@@RetroRalph Only 0:25 it hurts my heart .... Bye Bye Anbernic handheld 😱
@@WickedGamerCollector It didn't make it... sorry. LOL (It really didn't though)... haha. Mason smacked that thing a little too hard. (oh wait, that sounds gross). :-0
You refering to the one in Zwolle? He'd love that. Gonna do a vid about that soon, reunited with a friend after ten years who works there.
How could U give this a thumbs down? Unreal! Must not be True Arcade Heads...what's funny is, I noticed alot of dust on all the cabs. I would be a freak on keeping them spotless! This guy is so LUCKY! I'm sure it's a time thing, but I would be OCD on them...Badass Collection! Great Video Bro as always.
Hahahahah lmfaoooo I love the stringer bondo bondo man reference hahahaha
The charm of a cabinet is unique, especially in America where you had the serigraphed originals, we in Italy served "neutral" cabinets.... you are very strong Ralph !!!
You need this…. BUNKERCADE!!!!
"Sega is an Atari game" 😆.
Epic video, epic series! Can't wait for more.
Great episode Ralph! David is such an awesome guy and great asset to the arcade community.
Yep David is an Awesome Guy! Wouldn't have "Savage Quest" without him and many other games I was able to pick up! Again hoping you can come visit soon.
This episode was so good I’m already watching it for a third time
No way dude, thank you so so so so much my dude!
His top 5 games appear to be variations of pac-man, don't let him fool you. he literally has a whole row of pac-man cabs, which is something.
Great video as always, Ralph. Love these longer format discussions because it truly shows the passion behind what people love about gaming and collecting. It’s so cool to get inside someone’s thoughts about why they made the purchasing decisions they did when they became old enough to afford it. Keep up the great content.
I am absolutely loving this series. Please keep them coming :)
I love the intro of the show. It’s the little things that make this show stand out with the level of production and detail. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
Thanks my dude, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
So happy I got to watch this live with you and everyone. So much more fun watching this live and will try to make it if my schedule allows.
I spent the last year-and-a-half making my main floor into an arcade and I can definitely say that it's my favorite place to be. I don't even have to play the games I can just relax and watch a movie. It's not just the gaming experience but the whole aesthetic and vibe. Fulfilling that childhood dream! Great stuff, thanks for the video!
Its cool to see all this rare and awsome arcades most of us grew up with. Great episode and good camera work.
I'm always nostalgic, so bring it on.
I got you man! ✊🏻
Finally got to watch this. This was such a great episode! David has an amazing collection. These are a total blast to watch. Lookin' forward to more episodes in the future!
Fantastic video on retro arcade machine, having worked in an arcade from 1979 - 1985 (United Kingdom) and also a collector of retro games consoles it’s always nice to see videos and collectors like yourself and Dave doing something to keep in my opinion the best arcade times compared to today’s modern consoles and machines.
Keep up the great work and please make more and more videos like this.
Glad you enjoyed it! The plan is to keep them coming, as long as people are watching! Thanks so much, I'm sure you saw some awesome games if you worked in an arcade from 1979 - 1985... so cool!
Haha and I thought I was a hoarder....right on man!
Well, now I want to know how many cabinets you have... haha
Just fantastic guys. Love diving into the story behind the passion, cheers
This is the best arcade series on UA-cam. Not only do we get to see all the cool arcade games and pinballs but we get to hear the story of the people. And I also love to see other people’s favorite games. Great job Ralph and Mason!!!!!
Wow, thanks... that's much appreciated my friend. Thank you so much for supporting the show!
Another fantastic episode, thanks for the journey 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this new show, pumped for episode 2!
And good editing 🙌🙌🙌
I love this series man! So cool! David is really cool, chill person and that was super awesome of him to show you Cobra Arcade!
Awesome collection! David is one of those guys that you can definitely hangout with, play some games, have a few beers, and enjoy the nostalgia. (You too Ralph)
I appreciate how he talked about enjoying a game you got for a decent price and then sold it for a decent price.
That's the plan, restore it and pay it forward for a reasonable price to someone that appreciates it. Thanks so much for watching!
Another amazing episode! Thanks buddy!
Excellent video I really loved it Thank you so much Ralph and all your guests
Thanks bud, really appreciate you taking the time to comment and to watch.
awesome show really enjoyed it
Looking forward to this and highly enjoyed the first one.
Great video! Really well shot and professionally edited. David's got a nice collection, but more importantly, he has a great shortlist of top games! Having grown up in a similar time period to him, and having being exposed to many (many) arcade games within my youth, I can concur that choosing a top 5 or even a top 20 would be super difficult. IMO the future of genuine (classic) Arcade machine collecting, will be an FPGA based solution. I also foresee some way of (truly) simulating a CRT monitor... Not sure how yet, but let's hope someone figures it out! Keep up the good work Ralph.
Must say the 6 player X-MEN ARCADE twin monitors are the most color matched and alignment that we ever say...awesome job to the MONITOR TECH! 😄👍💯💯
right?!
Awesome episode! I really dig on those custom painted arcades (Artcade) at Cobra 🐍 👏
This is fantastic. Please keep it up.
Isn't it interesting how many people's favorite arcade game is usually tied to some kind of memory. I know my favorites are MvC2, Sfa2, and TvC for similar reasons.
Well I mean the arcade scene pretty much had died out, so it's not like we had all these years with new games or machines. We had basically what we had as a kid and then moved on to.....consoles? Obviously?
Awesome Episode man, David really made this one shine as he's got a great character. Can't wait for the next!
I couldn’t agree more man, David is awesome and he’s so passionate about arcade gaming and ensuring the dream stays alive. Truly a great guy and thank you so much for watching!
Great show Ralph. I really love the stories behind the collections.
Awesome job on this. Keep up the great work and thank you so much for it 👏
A very fun episode thank you!
I remember spending as much time as I could at an arcade in Edmond Oklahoma in the early '80s up through the mid-80s.
I can still remember like it was yesterday the day they brought in the cockpit version of Star Wars it set nestled between Star Trek and Mach 3.
So many nostalgic memories in the arcade and playing at convenience stores.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great show! I want that Donkey Kong
Absolutely loving this series! Keep up the amazing work.
Amazing. Quality and so entertaining. Well done guys
There's worse things to hoard than arcade cabinets. I'm jealous! 😍
Hahahah I love the man vs self conflict ralph has in the toy room
The struggle is real bro. LOL
Really enjoyed watching this. Keep it up.
Nice episode, Ralph! Keep up the great content!
I have been collecting for 10 years and never considered it a sickness just happiness in a box but i miss the the days of a game sitting on craigslist for months and i would pick it up for 200$ or less☠️
We don't script the show so it's just kind of what I said in the moment. Probably not the best choice of words on my part but anyway... Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. The deals are few and far between these days it seems.
I like how most of the gameplay shown was on a emulator. Good thing I have over 600 games on my emulator cabinet so I can enjoy all of these shown.
I live I hunger for another episode great show guys
Thanks man, hopefully we can start filming episode 3 soon. Appreciate the support!
Really enjoyed the show. Keep up the great work Ralph and Mason
Just watched. Great episode, David seems like an awesome dude.
I think he needs another PacMan!
Another great show guys! Keep the nostalgia train rollin!
Thanks my friend! I don’t think David believes there’s such a thing as too much pac-man. 🤣
what a great episode, I love this series! 100% agree on faster ms. pac being more fun! I was disappointed when my a1up ms. pac only came with the slow setting but then I discovered there was an update that added in the fast setting, that's the only way I know how to play it on! ever since my teenage years when our local pizza place had the fast ms. pac and I sank SO many quarters into it. rastan is cool too, would love an arcade archives conversion of it so I can play it on switch with my fight stick mini for the real arcade experience. and lastly yeah love blitz! not super into sports games but I think the midway stuff I'll happily make an exception for.
So much talent between you and Mason. Wow, just wow! Such a great episode, bud!. This is definitely going somewhere. I believe it wholeheartedly.
I Hope so bud, thanks so much for always supporting these projects, it means a lot!
Awesome Video Ralph
Hit em with the hein!!! I look forward to episode 2!!
Stoked for this. Also didn't realize you could have a trailer segment on a forthcoming premier. Nice.
Yeah it’s a newer feature, you can also redirect people to a post show, it’s pretty freaking cool. ✊🏻
Great video
This is amazing content for the channel! The heart is there, dude!
Thanks my friend, it means a lot!
Great episode, keep them coming!
Best Episode Yet!
Thanks bud, I appreciate the feedback!
Sooo looking forward to this!
My favorite video game memory has to be going to Sears with my mom so she could order out of their catalog. While I was there she would give me some quarters to go play kangaroo! which every time I see the cabinet it reminds me of those days. As I grew up and the fighting genre started my new favorite fighting game was Primal Rage who couldn't like fighting dinosaurs. I have over 30 pieces in Primal Rage collection most in boxes and even built a replica arcade1up
That's awesome man! Thanks for sharing that story and thanks for watching!
Wow, what a great video!
Thanks bud, really appreciate that. If you like this one you should check out episode 3. I think you will enjoy that one too! Thanks again for watching!
Cool episode! This feels more like a video podcast than a show. Ralph you have a great voice and an important one in this hobby ! As long as you’re passionate, you’ll have an audience. Thx for making it!
Thank you Seth, I really appreciate the kind words and for you watching!
the polish on this episode is outstanding..keep up the awesome #realstuff
Thanks man, I appreciate you watching 🤘🏼
@@RetroRalph Honestly..I wanted to dislike you..I've been in the youtube pinball and arcade game for almost 6 years now..and my channel has flatlined..I have kinda lost some of my gusto for making stuff that people just aren't watching..but you've inspired me to step my game up and make better content..I got a new series that I've been working on..and after watching this i need a drone guy!!
@@CaptNRetro Thanks bud, that means a lot coming from you. I appreciate your honesty, sometimes I don't even like me... all kidding aside though, you have been at this a lot longer than me so much respect. I often watch your content but I don't usually comment. You always seem to find diamonds in the rough so whatever you do, I will be checking it out! Thanks again!
Great show Ralph! Can’t believe he wouldn’t just sell you the smash TV though! That multicade one had been murdered 😭
That one wasn't his, that one belonged to Cobra Arcade, I didn't know that in that moment though. I have a restoration project on my hands but I will just add that to the pile... haha. Awesome thing is, I used some citrus strip on the black painted sides and the original artwork is still persevered underneath!
@@RetroRalph awesome!
Fun to watch, maybe a tip from my end. After a while we know what the voices of both individuals sound like so that they don't need to be front and center quite as much and the focus can instead be on the games themselves, assuming of course the screen is turned on. I mean while you were showing Dragon's Lair II there was some gameplay but I think the majority of that segment was showing you and the other guy.
What an amazingly entertaining and well produced video! After 2 mins I paused to get popcorn and a beer😁
Dude, that's what it's all about, thank you so much! Question, what kind of beer did you grab?
@@RetroRalph Hertog Jan! Dutch and delicious!
When David exposed the guts for Rick & Morty pinball, it's a reminder for me to never get a real one. Absolutely intimidating. @Retro Ralph, amazingly fun episode. I can't wait for the next one.
I hear you man, I have over time become comfortable with arcade machines and repairing them but pinball seems like a completely different beast. Maybe one day... Thanks so much for watching!
I'd be happy to own an Arcade game.
Re: Dragon's Lair cabs - you can swap in a different game's laserdisc, but you also need to swap in the corresponding PCB for the game. The game ROMs tell the laserdisc where to go.
This is AWESOME
Was really worth the wait
Just wow!!!
i had to pause this and go to eBay when i found out there was a dig dug pop!. i have all the pac man/ms pacman and all ghosts.. did not know about dig dug, which is my favorite all time.
That was so nice to watch and revisit David, such a cool guy. I wasn't another common thread, we are all romantics in some way :)
Looking forward to the Smash TV resto! :P
Thanks so much for watching 🙏🏼 The Smash TV needs a lot of work but it will be a fun project.
You need this, Ralph.
Need what!?!?!?
Nice episode, Ralph... some really classic games in this one! Have to admit, the "Chasing Nostalgia" name always throws me off... I expect to see all kinds of nostalgia (not that I want to--I like that it's arcade cab focused, it's just that the name implies that it could be anything nostalgic!). Maybe you should rebrand to "Chasing Quarters" or "Chasing Cabs" or something, lol.
Thanks man, well, you're ahead of me my friend. This last episode was suppose to include quite a few extras but we had to push that till the next episode, so we will get there, working other memorabilia / collectibles into the episodes in the next few.
Great episode. Key takeaway, you need to rent a space. 😉
Right?!? Maybe one day! ;-) Thanks for watching bud!
Oh, a vidga short!
i subscribed after 5 mins, it hit me in the feels
That's awesome man, thanks so much for watching and for subscribing, the support means a lot.
Arcades and Graffiti Art.... Ralph ..... This Episode was fucking Top Notch!
Bro... I felt like you followed me home, and looked at my UA-cam searches too... Or was that the cops?! 😅
Awwww my dude, that means a lot, I promise I’m not stalking you. You do need more toilet paper for the downstairs bathroom though, just sayin.
@@RetroRalph
I can tell you aren't following me 😂 WE HAVE NO DOWNSTAIRS RESTROOM!
But hey, I left a REAL more thought out and heart felt comment just now.
This was just a reaction to how a couple of my interest are again converging... Both Timeless.
