Chasing Nostalgia Episode 4: There's Arcade Stuff In There?!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лют 2022
- In this episode of Chasing Nostalgia we visit an iconic Arizona Amusement Park called
Castles N' Coasters. Castles N' Coasters started as an Arcade in the late 70s early 80s. The rumor is, there's an Arcade graveyard that been mostly untouched for the last 30-40 years!
We also have a few surprises as we explore the Arcade, Arcade Graveyard, Amusement Park Rollercoasters, and we make a last minute trip to Las Vegas!
In Las Vegas I drag mason to the Pinball Hall of Fame, Sharp Image Repair (an awesome CRT repair shop) and much MORE!

This is going to be really awesome Retro Ralphy Adventure ! 😄
Really cool. I visit Castles & Coasters every time I go to Phoenix for the last 10 years!
I got chills of nostalgia watching this episode. Castles and Coasters AKA Golf N’ Stuff is a slice of my childhood. My family went there regularly from the mid 80s to the mid 90s when the roller coasters were built. My best memory was a church lock in for our youth group in the spring of 1990. We had full access to everything. I spent most of the night in the arcade trying to beat Strider. Man, good times.
That’s so awesome man, that’s exactly what I want. People to get that rush of nostalgia from something happy in their past. Wow; you had a lock in at the park?!? That must have been a lot of fun. Where did everyone sleep? In the arcade ? 🤔.
Nostalgia successfully chased- Thank you sir 👌
You rock bud, thank you so much for your support and for watching!
Very cool vid!! Castles and Coasters looks awesome!! Family owned and built in 77 - Epic!
Thanks for watching brother! Yeah it’s really cool that the family have owned it all this time. Thanks again bud!
Another homerun brother. Love the tie in of new and old in but the Amusement park and Vegas.
Thanks my dude!
Last time I went to Castles N Coasters was back in the late 2000s, and it was arcade nirvana. Growing up in the 90s during the fighting game boom, it was so great to see the staples again like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc.
I love stopping by there when I go to NASCAR up there!!! I'll be up there in a couple week's!!
I'm excited for part 2 where a truck packed with all of these games pulls up in front of Ralph's garage.
Damn! I send out my chassis to Sharp Image repair a little over a year ago. Great to see them on the video, too! They do great work.
Thanks so much for watching. You coming over to help me unload the truck full of games? 😂
@@RetroRalph Haha! Next time I’m in Arizona, I guess? But I don’t think I’d be able to tear away from SMASH TV.
Awesome!
Some pretty nice places there Ralph!
✌🏼😎👍🏼
Always good to see something non cheaply made MDF 1UpArcade related content . You are O.G ! Can’t believe this is happening 👍🏻
Such an awesome episode. So jealous right now! This episode was worth the wait. Great Job Ralph & Mason!
MOAT!! You rock my man, thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph thanks for taking the time to make this! I wish that this could become a fully funded series...
Double-dose of nostalgia today. 🤜🤛 Thank guys!
Hell yes!!!
I follow a lot of urban exploration and sometimes they come across incredible abandoned arcade gems.
Oh man, that’s awesome!
I can only smile being 47 and seeing all these amazing fun things smile and 😃
thanks for sharing man! I really appreciate it! If you smiled, mission accomplished!
Love the Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame. Got a photo with that Computer Space. I wish they would fix it!
Man, this production quality is top notch! Y’all did amazing job on this episode! Looking forward to future content like this!
Thank you so much for watching! We're glad you enjoyed. :)
Thanks for reliving our childhood. Most Impressive ❤️
Thanks for watching bud!
@@RetroRalph love ❤️ ya brother
So cool and so jealous at the same time.
Random and Bizarre! I cant wait!
This should be on Netflix guys. Y’all are crrrrrrrrushing it!
Thank you so much! Trying to get as much exposure as we can. I really appreciate the kind words man! Thank you so much for watching!
I can’t believe Ralph took 🦇 THE BATMAN 🦇 to Vegas! He is the best! I’m still waiting for Conrad to hide in Klassic Kim’s luggage 🧳 when Ralph takes her to Europe
Another great episode! It felt like SO much happened in this one. If I ever go to Phoenix I'll have to check out Castles N Coasters! I'm also kicking myself since I went to Vegas twice and never checked out the Pinball Museum! What a mistake. Great episode guys, this is one of the very few UA-cam productions I actually make a point to watch on my TV rather than my laptop. Its TV quality!
Thanks brother! You gotta check out the pinball hall of fame the next time you go back. There’s so much to see and we just scratched the surface.
I been to the pinball hall of fame 4 times, the new building is fantastic. It’s my favorite place to go in Vegas.
We go to Castles & Coasters 3-4 times a year, usually in the winter when it is less busy. The kids run all over the park but I spend all my time in the arcade. That 2nd floor with the retro games are really cool.
"Hey what's under here?" Oh it's a computer space...moving on...lol. Great episode! You guys are killing it! Definitely fun to watch!
I'm not jealous at all! Another great vid. So good to see that retro cabs, monitors, spares etc are still out there. The guy making a living from refurbishing the CRT's just shows the scene is alive and well!
The scene is alive!! Thanks for watching!
This is so cool. Wish I live near that park.
Ralph, I got misty watching that clip from Rocky Point...my kingdom for a time machine!
Man I loved that place so I understand man 🙏🏼 Thanks for watching!
Excellent job Ralph and Mason! Cool seeing Rexer make a cameo. Can’t wait to see where you guys head to next👍🏻
Very awesome. Very nostalgic for me. I grew up in Vegas and remember that little pinball place late 90s early 2000s when it was located in a quaint little shopping center a few miles away. I would ride my skateboard there after school and marvel at these guys fixing these old machines and pump every quarter I could find into these machines.
We were recently there too. I spend way too much time poking around in that corner with the broken machines. 😂 there was some seriously fun stuff in that corner. I think a few hours into the visit I was physically drug back to the car. Great video!
Right!?! That corner is awesome! It’s cool to see old games even if they’re not working. Thanks so much for watching bud! 🙏🏼
@@RetroRalph thanks for putting out some good stuff! Im new to the hobby and have really enjoyed your views
Man what I would give to have just an old shell of a stand up arcade, I really think I want to build something around a modern setup, always loved the idea of being able to game or watch news or throwback action films all on a stand up machine, truly awesome episode again here, can't believe those crt repairs, mind blown 👍
Bravo bravo can’t wait
Hi Ralph, loved the video! I've lived in Phoenix my whole life and i've been to Castles 'N Coasters many times. The arcade sure has changed a lot over the years, but I love that they still have the retro cabinets. Very cool to see the old arcade parts stored on the roof! Haven't been since they added that pizzeria, but it looks pretty tasty! Hopkins manufactured both the Desert Storm and Patriot Roller Coasters, as well as the Splashdown log flume in the early 1990's. That was when the name was changed from Golf 'N Stuff to Castles 'N Coasters. There's still a Golf 'N Stuff in Tuscon AZ and also Ventura CA & Norwalk CA.
Thanks so much for watching! It must have been cool to see the new arcade transition over the years. Cole shared a lots of pictures with us of its progression. Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to comment, much appreciated 🙏🏼
I want to go to this little park some day
Love this show! Thanks for keeping the arcades alive and well. You’re a naturally good tv personality. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see what’s next!
Thanks bud, I really appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Now we need to figure out the next location. 🤔
Instant rewatch!! Great job guys!!!!
Thanks so much for watching bud!
Incredible production quality!
Yo! Mr. A/C OF PHOENIX AZ. HERE. CASTLE N COASTERS WAS MY 1ST JOB AT 17YEARS OLD 1995... LOVED THAT PLACE. STILL DO . LOG RIDE MY FAVE! MINI GOLF WOOOOO! GREAT VIDEO...THE BURGERS WERE THE BEST.
I’m shocked at this quality. Wow!!! Seriously great job all around!!!
Thanks my dude, I appreciate you watching! Mason killed it on this one. Well, he always does but his B-Roll game was off the charts on this one. Thanks again man!
Cannot wait to see this episode! hoping I can help fix some of these machines maybe in the future? Eh...
Another great episode, Ralph! Loved going to Castles and Coasters as a kid growing up in Arizona. Fun to see what it's like on the roof!
So awesome seeing you in the comment man! I hope all is well. I’m backlogged on your episodes. I’m going to get caught up over the weekend! Thanks for watching my friend!
This place looks like heaven
This was a great episode!
Castles and Coasters looks awesome! Great episode and thanks for sharing these cool places. It's amazing all the graveyard parts they had. Very cool stuff.
Thanks so much for watching. The graveyard is really cool. There’s a lot to go back and explore too. Thanks again 🙏🏼
Awesome episode!! all those hidden gems in the creepy crawl spaces....
There’s actually a bunch of stuff I missed too, I’m going to have to go back.
Dude! I just found this channel. WOW! I'm hooked already. Can't wait to check out the rest of your videos! I have a very small retro gaming channel myself, with a mix of new stuff in there too. You have just inspired me to really step up my game! I love finding more people that still appreciate the games we grew up with. As I always say down in The Matcave, "keep retro gaming alive, because one day, your games...will be retro, too."
Great job Ralph this series is one of my favs no question 👏
Awesome! Thank you, so glad you enjoy it!
That was awesome.
Thanks man, much appreciated 🙏🏼
This stuff is amazing! Might have to arrange a weekend and head up the coast for an Arcade Day, haven't done that in a few years now but this series has been pulling on my heartstrings to go back and check out the Arcades I went to as a kid. One of the big ones I know shut down permanently during the pandemic which really sucks as it was massive and had some awesome machines.
yep, vegas is a 4 hour drive from me where im at in the OC, and i spend 3-4 hours a day at the pinball hall of fame every day im there. whats great is, i have most if not all of the pinball games in virtual form on my VP Ultra in my arcade.
I never got a notice you were premiering! Great episode as usual!
Oh man, I wonder why 🤷🏻♂️. Thanks so much for watching my friend!
That’s an awesome place to be in.. 💪🏻💪🏻
Yeeeesss! Cannot wait!
Now having watched it - another fantastic episode. Hats off to Ralph and Mason for all the hard work they do to bring us this awesome content.
I've passed that place many times and never checked it out. It is time, looks cool.
So good RR. There is a so much love and time that goes into these videos. Super fun to watch and a blast from the past and present.
There definitely is a lot of passion that goes into these projects. Glad you're enjoying that blast from the past! Thanks for your support.
Castles N Coasters looked like a great place, many different activities/rides/fun...Nice Man gave you an exclusive tour into the inner workings of his lair lol...Best episode yet RR:)
Thanks man, much appreciated. Hopefully more to come 🙏🏼
Brought back memories of some of the spots I went to as a kid, like Fun Harbor out in Waukegan IL in the 90s! Jealous... so jealous lol. Quality content and amazing production!
Glad you enjoyed it man, I love thinking back on those fun times as a kid. Glad it brought back those memories for you! Apprecaite you watching!
Awesome episode 👍🏻
That's pretty cool Ralph, looks like a fun time.
It was a blast, thanks so much for watching!
Great show love it!! Makes me wish I had an arcade!!
Fantastic episode Ralph! Congrats! Looks like a ton of planning went into this one. Kudos!
Thanks bud, really appreciate that! 🙏🏼. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍🏻
My family travels to Vegas very often ... But I NEVEE GO! Now I have a ton of reasons to want to go on the next trip!
Dude, you gotta go next time! You would love the pinball hall of fame!
@@RetroRalph And THAT'S EXACTLY WHERE I PLAN TO GO! After the Strip Club with the Memorable Endings... 😇
Awesome video Ralph as usual. I live in Vegas and never knew the Sharp Image Repair shop was here in town. Now I know where to repair my broken CRT's lol.
Heck yeah man, they will take care of you for sure. They do amazing work. Thanks for watching!
Great show Ralph! You are killing it with chasing Nostalgia! I’m older than the first video games, so I got into pong, etc through my dads love of Pinball Machines. It’s like you are going backwards from my evolution. Been watching for a long time and it seems like you are happier than ever. Thanks for being our eyes into some of these places we’ll never get to see in person.
Thanks so much Michael, I’m having a blast! I think we’re just scratching the surface. So many awesome things to be discovered. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the series. Thank you for watching and supporting it 🙏🏼
Pretty cool to hear about Rocky Point. I'm from Cranston and worked there for years as a teen. Up til it closed in 95
So cool man, I grew up in Lincoln, RI and we would go to Rocky Point often in the summer, I always loved that place. It's a shame that it's no longer around. Thanks so much for watching!
17:53 Theres a company in IL (Mold-A-Rama) that still makes those Souvenir Mold Machines for multiple places in the area. Our local zoo has a bunch of them.
No kidding, so they still exist!?! I love these things!!
Excellent episode Retro!!! You are adding a lot to our hobby!!! Keep up the good work champ! 💪🏼
That means a lot my friend, thank you so much!
Dude, this was so incredible. Well worth the hype!
Thanks bud, I really appreciate that!
Another awesome episode. I could've spent a whole day in that junkyard area.
I could too, Cole is going to let me back to explore more. I will do some followup videos on it soon.
On top of stellar content, your production quality is every bit as good as stuff you'd see on the Discovery Channel. I know it's a bit nerdy, but I get a rush going through old arcade parts. I just scored a Tempest (non-working, of course) for $400 last week, and the guy had a Super Hang-On that has all the parts I need to make mine look so much better for $100. I'll probably pick that up next week. Great stuff as always, Ralph!
I know exactly what you mean! I love digging through PCBs. I actually went back the other day and found a GI Joe PCB. It wasn’t working but still fun to uncover these old boards. There was crazy climber, donkey Kong and several others. I need to go back and see if Cole will let me inventory everything. Thanks again for the kind words and for watching.
I'm looking forward for it 👍
Not disappointed, just a little bit envy 😂 Great video, cant wait to visit Vegas again 💛 Thanks
Greatly enjoyed your video. Production and editing are network quality. Well done. Looking forward to more...
Thanks so much, I appreciate you watching 🙏🏼
Nicely done guys... worth the price of admission alone just to hear Ralph screaming. lol
😂😂😂
This was so good Ralph, well shot well told. Really enjoyed it. Could have used just a tiny bit more pinball coverage at the Pinball Hall of Fame though....maybe just a smidge. Yeah if i ever make it to Arizona, have to check that place out...maybe even just for the pizza. Also my jealousy was overrunning when you guys were eating In N Out
I agree with you in the pinball coverage. We could honestly do a whole episode on that place. We actually almost didn’t get to film in there at all. It’s a long story that we will likely tell in a behind the scenes or something. Thanks so much for your support my friend, it means a lot!
Wow that place is awesome!# So cool. I hope I'm lucky enough to go someday. !! CRT place is really cool too.
Great!
Glad you made it to Vegas and Pinball HOF. Both are wonderful places. The current location for Pinball HOF just opened recently and I used to visit the old one frequently. It's both a godsend to the hobby and a real time warp in terms of what cash based pinball game centers and video arcades in general used to be. Very fortunate to have this available in 2022 and with such dedicated support.
Also glad you found Sharp Image Repair. Henry has been servicing my own hardware for years - great guys! Super lucky to have this option local to me.
Castles and Coasters looks awesome. Definitely taking my kids here if we're ever near the Phoenix area. Love your work and really appreciate it!
Everything you mentioned, yes!!! Sharp Image Repair was great, Castles was awesome. Pinball HoF is incredible! I'm glad you enjoy the content!!
Awesome video 👌👌👌
Wow wow wow this party just keeps on going and going amazing I love it. You guys just get better and better all around I’m so impressed and love watching this show. I can watch it all day everyday it never gets old. Rexer is the man I can’t believe he’s getting that Narc monitor going bravo bravo. Hopefully you guys did some Vegas stuff that was too hot for TV 📺! BEST EPISODE YET KEEP IT COMING! I’m about to watch it again now back to back
My dude! Thanks so much! It’s my favorite one so far so it means a lot! ✊🏼🔥. You rock brother! Thank you for always supporting me man.
They have those plastic mold machines at the zoo here...Each section of the zoo has different ones with different animals...
They’re so cool, right?
Another awesome video.
Thanks bud 🙏🏼
You should saw Ralph face when the manager say we have more on the roof!
I was definitely like “he didn’t just say the roof right” haha…. Thanks so much for watching! 🙏🏼
Can’t watch this on my phone. Time to cast this to the 83”. Let’s goooooo!!!!
Yeah baby ✊🏼🔥 haha I hope you enjoy it!
woah that's quite the arcade! definitely gotta find something closer to us where the wife and I live! and then the PHOF! I was visiting my aunt in vegas almost a decade ago and I got to go up to their old location, it was pretty impressive! I did throw some quarters at a few of the pinball games, like the TRON Legacy machine, but I think most of my change went to their classic arcade stuff. donkey kong, space invaders, joust, defender... all the classics!! maybe someday I'll get back out there to see their new location seems like it's twice as big!! I feel you though I'm more into the arcade side of stuff. another great episode I love this series seeing all the cool arcade stuff and the mountain of old arcade parts and monitors.
If you can make it out to the new location and think you would be very impressed. The building is a lot bigger and they have even more pinball and arcade games. Hopefully you can make it out there sometime. Thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph of course! and definitely in the future if we can we'll have to come check that out!
I really enjoyed the episode!
I had to watch 2 times. It was good I can't say it was the best. I wish you spend a little more time looking at different arcade systems. I felt it kind of got a little boring. Loved all your others. You need to a full video of their grave yard be fun see some history in there. Now you got spare parts. I DO LOVE WHAT YOU GUYS DO. Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks for the feedback bud! I plan to go back there and do some Followup videos, there’s a ton more to look at.
That was a great episode guys! Need to go home and watch it on the big tv
Thanks so much for always supporting me bud 🙏🏼 it’s much appreciated!
Yes another great episode man. Man I would love to go there man it look huge. Keep up the great work man.
Thanks for watching my dude, appreciate you.
@@RetroRalph no problem
Dude what a awesome episode, I live in Vegas and my wife and I immediately knew where you were going. I hope to catch you out here on the next one.
That’s awesome! I’m sure there are ton of other places I should check out in Vegas, any suggestions?
Well done. That was a fun episode.
Thanks bud, I appreciate you watching!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video... your excitement got me all excited. Great job!!! Looked like so much fun but man, need to make it a week next time. lol
Thanks so watching bud, I really appreciate it.
Badass! It’s crazy to think how many more arcade graveyards are out there just waiting to be appreciated again. Indiana Jones style. Great job you guys!✌️❤️
There’s stuff everywhere, it’s crazy how much stuff is locked away somewhere. Thanks so much for watching!
The production quality of your videos is fantastic.
Much appreciated, thank you so much for watching!
Excellent show Ralph! Was at pinball hall of fame a few weeks ago. Place is awesome!
It was great!! Thanks for watching!
Really really good job Ralph!! Fun episode! Very entertaining 👏
Thanks so much!
Holy crap I haven’t seen a Drinker Tinker since probably the late 70’s/early 80’s when my uncle had one in his garage bar.
Awesome show man! Look forward to more. Definitely makes me nostalgic for the old arcades around here that are gone now, including another at the beginning of the year.
The drinker Tinker is awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
That was epic
This is such a good series and deserves way more views.
Thanks bud, we're trying to market it the best we can. My reach only goes so far unfortunately Thank you so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph I did find out about it through a UA-cam ad (though I've previously watched your A1U videos), so the marketing is at least kind of working!
