This case hits home. My father was a religious man and pastor and controlled my mother fully with the same logic for many, many years. Fortunately it did not end this savagely, but it came close. This is simply a prime example of narcissism. People using religion to back up their actions no matter how vile are dangerous.

    • @TheThreatenedSwan
      @TheThreatenedSwan 11 місяців тому +4

It's much more common in these small towns that people who are narcissistic and status seeking do so within a church community, but since in the national cultural milieu traditional religion is not in power/high status, it doesn't happen very often. Then people use other institutions that have taken its place instead.

It’s not that simple. Not nature OR nurture. Criminologists, psychologists, and researchers think it’s some of both. Remember, though, that a fraction of a fraction of those raised by shitty parents will never go on to harm/kill ANYONE.
🙋🏼‍♀️ Raising my hand b/c I had a substandard upbringing. Birth parents, adoptive parents, foster parents. My mom was severely mentally ill. She killed herself. With her, it was just neglect and instability. My adoptive parents were hateful, cruel, & abusive. My foster parents - all of them - were WONDERFUL. I was on my own at 17. Joined the USMC at 20. Became a single mom a few years later. My son is now 34 & a Marine Corps veteran himself. I was married for 20 years, now divorced. I’ve never smoked or taken any illegal drug (not even pot), and if I have one or two glasses of wine per year . . . that’s unusual. I have no criminal history. I have never physically harmed anyone. Additionally, my son is a good man. Again, no criminal history, no history of addiction, no kids floating around out there. He came out of the Corps pretty banged up. He’s been happily married for seven years. Works like a dog. He’s intelligent, humble, and very laid-back. My daughter-in-law is lovely, kind, and BRILLIANT (working on her Masters in Chemistry! 😬)
Then there’s the opposite scenario: lots of criminals and murderers who were raised in “good homes” by “good people.” Following your theory, shouldn’t kids raised like that be “good” people, too? Petty criminals, con artists, addicts, everyday sociopaths, murderers, batterers, rapists, pedophiles . . . come from intact homes, well-to-do homes, religious homes, highly educated parents. The “perfect” upbringing. What’s to account for them, huh? No, it’s NOT nature OR nurture because no family is perfect. Doesn’t exist. Maybe they spoil one child and he turns out to a decent human being. They spoil another child and that kid goes on to be a narcissist from hell.
So please stop thinking you know what you cannot know. Maybe it makes you feel important or better or whatever. But you’re just plain wrong.

The Inman's that I know were always a bit strange. Went to a family reunion & ran into my ex bf friends there,at my family reunion, they were related on the Inman side & the one wanted to date me! Even after being at the reunion together...our parents said it was distant, but we're at the same family reunion, that's too close for me!

It's sadly quite a common thing to find people who claim to be Christian doing the most un-Christian things in thought, word and deed.
The hypocrisy in some religious people is sometimes truly breath taking, how do they do these things yet continue to call themselves religious?
I say religious rather than specifically "Christian" because that kind of behaviour isn't just a Christian thing, it's something that is seen by people practicing all kinds of faiths.

I feel it's because of that wretched "prosperity doctrine" that has been around since the seventies. The laser focus on wealth (the ridiculous notion that one's financial wealth is solely relative to one's level of faith in God and commitment to same - a Las Vegas God, if you like) has made it far too easy for scammers and grifters to start churches. If America would start taxing ALL religious institutions, it would cut back on 75% of that crap. I grew up in it; I have inside knowledge.

This reminds me of the Kelsey Berreth case in Colorado where Crazee Patrick Frazee used Kelsey's noggin for fungo practice. I still think his mother was in on it because she stood to be the baby's primary caretaker with Kelsey out of the way and she was feeding Patrick lies about Kelsey being an abusive mother. Just like that case, this was all about the grandchildren and what would happen when the ex-hubby was out of the picture. Summer must have really hated Willy because she left him to get a job cleaning a bank after hours which can't pay very much. Well, now Bill can start a new ministry in prison.

Ironically, Summer was the only good person in the family. Those poor children. Props to the guy the tried to help Summer.

I grew up in this town and I've been hoping you'd cover this story, I remember in middle school we made a memorial for summer with her favorite colors in the lawn in front of the school. Never knew much more about the story. Pretty unsettling to hear what happened to her.

Poor Summer 😢 I grew up with a weird deeply religious grandmother and my mom’s stepfather would constantly start fights at every single holiday and birthday party, then my grandmother would take all the blame for it afterwards. It was deeply abusive and really really strange. That was the Imans

Well she knew she was at fault for staying with him. So in that way she did share some of the real blame. This dynamic happens a lot

@@beastshawnee However, while he was the abuser, she was indoctrinated. You may not personally be able to relate to that, but that is basically my sister's life. Some of these religious cults preach that women should be subservient to men.

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way Devin and I can absolutely relate. People don't sometimes understand that anxiety and depression can make it physically impossible to get out of bed sometimes.
Please, please reach out to.someone and try to find help. I don't know where you live but it's very hard to get help past a certain point here in the UK but after getting an advocate via the social side of the mental health department, I have been able to get more help, but it still isn't enough to get formal diagnoses for my issues as yet but I'm.much closer. So please don't give up. And please try to know that it doesn't mean you'll always feel this way. It's hard and there are people who will listen to and support you. Even if those people are on here, please do reach out.
Sending love and healing prayers your way. From kerry in Kent, England, UK ♥
