    I believe Novak was playing at 75% for most of this match. He knew Shelton couldn't beat him and there was no reason to waste energy. It also led to a lot of loose points, which manifested itself at the end of the 3rd. Djokovic wasn't at a level and sharpness to get through the tension. That being said, there wasn't much doubt it was ending in 3. Not sure how the final is going to go. Meddy has not looked good since Rome until today (I think Carlos was not ready and expected an easy blowout and looking forward to the final). With Daniil, if he is making 1st serve bombs and grinding every point he can certainly win.

    • @Alex-sm6pv
      @Alex-sm6pv Рік тому

      Lets not disresepect Danil that much, when he plays his best be is one of the greatest hard surface defendera of all time, he just lacks consistency. Dont forget he also robbed Novak of a golden slam during Novaks top form. Medvedev is a hard court powerhouse as much as Alcaras will be on clay.

    Shelton shows a LACK OF RESPECT and IMMATURITY to an opponent who is ARGUABLY the GOAT! Alcaraz is also 20yrs old and is MATURE, CLASSY and certainly NOT FULL OF HIMSELF. He respects his opponent and by no means tries to show them up. If anything Shelton's SHOWBOATING actually MOTIVATED Novak and likely did more harm than good for Shelton. The phone hangup at the end by Novak just goes to show you need to RESPECT your opponent no matter who it is otherwise YOU WILL GET A DIAL TONE AND GET SILENCED!!!

Novak schooled him tennis-wise and respect-your-opponents-wise - ALL your opponents, even if you think you're God's gift to humanity (and tennis). Absolutely loved it! good for the GOAT. Nole served lights-out for 2.5 sets and Ben had waaay too many unforced errors with that cannon of a forehand and superhuman serve of 135+ mph. Just crazy that a kid of 20 can do that and generate such heat on the serve + forehand and even sometimes from the backhand. Ben looks like he is still raw and in development / like a baseball home-run-hitter with a high strike-out percentage - the future of Carlos & Ben going at each other could be a new dynamic duo. Let's not count Meddy out because he was just perfect in taking out Carlos. WOW! What a pair of SF's in the USO-23!!! Still taking Novak in 3 or 4 in the final against Meddy as I had Carlos there. Think Novak will bring his best performance on Sunday! Thanx Gill. Cheers Milan 🙂Hope you guyz sneak in a "3" eipsode before the final. ROK ON!!!

    Djokovic certainly got tight in that last set..
    ...I did have a smile at the mockery.📞
    It was not needed, but obviously Shelton annoyed Djokovic.
    Shelton in the lead up could have probably been more respectful of playing Djokovic. I remember Alcaraz's first match. He wanted to play the best in the world and acknowledged Nadal and Djokovic as such.
    Shelton's like I don't remember watching Djokovic play as a kid; Djokovic's going to be surprised playing me. I'll be disruptive...etc.
    Djokovic obviously wasn't feeling the respect and gave back what he thought he received.
    I think Djokovic was probably also disappointed he didn't win 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, and provide the lesson he wanted to deliver.
    Maybe Shelton could write something nice next time before calling! 📮😉👍

    As some have said all show and very less substance (to consistently challenge the top players). Kid is going to learn (if at all) the very hard way with this attitude. And more likely run out of time. So cocky. Ridiculous how casually he approached his match against the all time great as well as the lack of respect shown. I would say Novak showed a ton more respect in the way he approached his match against the kid and pointed out the good points about his game.

He was able to match Novak in 10+ rallies. In fact he won more of those rallies. Tactics and positional understanding is very important. And these youngsters are not working on it!

    Novak's the guy with the experience, the class, and the recognition of being the greatest player in the history of the game. To embarrass a twenty year old kid by turning the kid's "telephone drop" back on him as part of going back to his chair post-match is way, way beneath the person who Novak actually is. As if watching Novak display his skills weren't enough, anyone who watched the Alcaraz-Medvedev match that followed knows straight away that Ben Shelton is already very skilled and now joins that production line of never-ending young players who gain quick recognition before taking their short or long term place in the "contenders" section of pro tennis. Bit disappointing to see Novak's giving completely undue and childish attention to the excitable new kid who WAS actually just enjoying the momentous occasion and playing some good, entertaining tennis in the process.

I’m a fan of trash talking and enjoyed seeing it, but at the same time Shelton is 16 years younger than him, first year as a professional, playing the biggest match of his life in front of his home crowd. Let the guy enjoy himself. Maybe it annoys his opponent, but does Djokovic remember what he was like at age 20? People were annoyed by him too. Just the cycle of life.
