    Sir my question is when we try to oxidize ethyl benzene it first forms phenyl ethanone . Now how can we oxidize this intermediate to benzoic acid. Eagerly waiting for your reply

      My question too like if the rule is we only need one benzylic proton how are the carbon carbon bonds broken since deprotonation cannot occur

    Sir. When you oxidised propylbenzene, one of the main product is benzoic acid. May i know what is the by product then?

      The by-products may be ethanoic acid, propiophenone (benzoylethane) etc

    Why we used H3O+ then

      In alkaline medium we get the salt of carboxylic acid i.e. carboxylate salt. On acidic work-up (addition of H3O+) protonation of carboxylate anion occurs and we get carboxylic acid.

      Benzylic free radical is much more stable than other free radicals due to resonance involving the benzene ring.
