Gonna try and do these a little more frequently since they require less production and time. In the meantime, I'm working on 2 new 30 Second vids. One is being edited while the script for the other is being drafted. Will give updates on them at a later time!

"Based off real life locations" is underselling it. The town is a near 1:1 of Cuenca, Spain with the main changes being the area outside the town. The town feels just as cozy and magical to walk around as it does watching IMO.

I knew the town was based of Cuenca, which I really should have mentioned, but I didn’t realize just how accurate it was. Looking further into it now, it really does look like a 1:1. Makes sense why it seems so genuine in the anime.

@@yaibalPRODUCTIONS Wait, that's actually so awesome. I was aware of the inspiration, but didn't realize how authentic it was to the real life and how big of a thing it was. Should've researched a bit more so I could've included it. Makes me appreciate the anime even more though.

I once heard it described as K-on meets All quiet on the Western Front and it's spot on

I once mentioned to my friend that I had just watched this very nice series called Sora no Woto. He stared me blankly for couple of seconds and said, "That series is an art."

Oh boy, I've got a huge smile stamped on my face right now.
Sound of the Sky is just a masterpiece of storytelling, art, historical details, cute character designs and music. It has it all.
But I have to admit that it truly isn't for everyone. The first time that I watched it I didn't quite understand it, gave it a 7 out of 10 and forgot about it.
Years later I decided to have a rewatch... it was like so many new details came out into the light!
The story is SO DEEP, so much space for speculation, the slice of life is adorable, the setting (based on the real spanish town of Cuenca) is amazingly drawn and yet this anime manages to stick to reality by never letting the viewer forget about the harshness of the characters' past and the constant risk of a total war.
Such an unique piece of animation and music, solid 10

You're like Batman. You've been here too long that you went from hero to villain.

I literally was just looking up the series for my umpteenth rewatch (only to see it is either no longer on YT, or not accessible in the region I'm traveling in :( ) and see this video just posted.
So little discussions out there on this series and it's an absolute masterpiece. The world building is something else I feel is really understated and appreciated about this series.
You get little glimpses that imply this is a far, far future following some great climate crisis (repeated mentions of the seas being lifeless), though the aesthetic are grounded in the inter-war period of the 1930s (most of the girl's weapons and vehicles are of German design).
As another commentator noted, the town is a near perfect representation of Cuenca, Spain, yet when they are exploring the ruins of their fortress, you see glimpses that it's built on an (seemingly ancient) Japanese grade school. There are small elements of Japanese culture dropped in to this very Mediterranean-like European setting. The conflict with the neighboring country somewhat mirrors the Greco-Italian War; while the religious politics hearken more to the conflicts between various Christian factions in Europe during the Thirty Years' War in the 1600s.
And then it just goes full mecha with spider tanks and far future electro-optical technology.
It's just an amazing mash-up of history and futurism.

Yes and yes. While not every single thing is all wrapped up & explained? that's actually a good thing! Better to keep some mystery, some space for fans to put their own ideas into it. The ending is really terrific by any measure.

I saw the vid when it released and instantly went to watch the show blind. I am now back. My heart has been shattered. My life has been changed. This show literally has everything I love, but I NEVER would have found it without this recommendation. So thank you so much!
I definitely agree with everything in the video. The thing that impressed me most is definitely the worldbuilding - on the micro and macro scale. Like you said, they feel genuinely lived-in. Reading snippets of the artbook just cements that they *really* put in the effort to make the setting as immersive as possible.
Because of that, I'm gonna miss the town and the fortress like they're real places. 🥲 Definitely wish we could have gotten to see more of the world and the stories in it.
