Finally someone who explains it good. I knew most of this already, but the way you explain this is perfect, especially for newer players!
agreed! this video answered my question about the highway management. :)
I play this on PS4, so I'm loving your Vanilla "dig a hole" trick to fix road heights. I've been eye-balling it one section at a time. You've got yourself a new sub. Think I'll binge-watch the rest of your videos. Good work, fella!
And you can make loooooooong bridges too without eyeballing!
I have 300hrs+ of Cities Skylines, but I am learning so much with you.
The tips for landscaping, money saving, road layout, service providing,
etc. are very good. I watched some other videos, even from Paradox itself, but I never
learned much from them. Thank you so much for your guides!
And my greatest thanks for watching!
Paradox tutorials suck, explain nothing
UA-cam just recommended me this video and dude, you are so great at this game! I build some awesome looking interchanges, but there’s no way I’d be able to make them look as nice as yours without mods. Subbed!
Finally a guide on point. Hats off to you sir, I must say you really are one of the most professional city builders on this platform. I don't really play CS anymore but really enjoy your content. Keep this up man and for sure you will have an amazing future.
Thank you for saying so!
I really like watch the interchange constructions, nice done
Thank you kindly!
This is absolutely beautiful man!
Thanks a ton!
Your city and videos are really good, very informative! Just one note, the roundabout at 9:48 is made with a two way road, might want to change that to one way road :)
Thank you for pointing that out! Yes, I missed to update that.
such a beautiful map, lay out and a very nice tutorial , good job, keep on posting videos
Brilliant work. Insanely good work on those highway entries and exits. Thumbs Upped
5:10 I had to stop the video to like and subscribe, wow this is exactly the type of advice I've needed.
Great commentary, thank you for the video. I really struggle to connect my city properly but this guide will help 👍🏽
My absolute pleasure!
These are so much more complex than what I can do right now. But these are very well done!
Very educational video with extremely cool builds! It's very clear you know what you are doing and talking about! Thanks for the content
Thank you for watching!
I wish i can sub to you a million times. Very good content! Cant wait for the next one.
That is very sweet of you! Thank you for your kind words!
I've been playing this game for 3 years. I've watched 100s of videos from the larger channels and learned just about nothing. You've literally answered at least 50 of the questions I've had for all thus time in just 3 videos! You're, hands down, the best TEACHER on this subject I've seen. Clear, concise, digestible information in videos of a perfect length. You don't have a title that says it's about a certain topic to then have an hour long video to watch that's about everything but that topic except for the 5 minutes they reserve for the topic the title promised. Thank you. I'll never watch another Cities Skylines video unless they're by you, Ricky King, and imperatur. Amazing!
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! I do my best to help other players improve their gameplay :)
Thanks capt! Will try it for my city.
Nice content man, well done
Great tutorial. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Fantastic video!
Bro, you are really doing a good job. I am learning a lot from your tips. Thank you very much.
It's my pleasure
Great vids as always
Nice one. The screenshot @ 1:46 with Highway/Interchanges/Exits is very informative! Ahvious = Master of cities skylines
Basically, from tile 1, you can map out all the tiles and highways. :)
great builds man! really love them
Glad you like them!
This was really cool thanks
You are underrated... I love a touch of realism to cities and you are perfect...
Thank you kindly!
Just when i start enjoying your videos its over. Thanks for the tips dude. Keep it up
Unfortunately, I kinda need to divide the topics.
Thanks.
Great Video! Thanks for including my comment in your video lol.
Thank you for commenting and watching!
Amazing player; the design is so pretty and organized
Awww thanks for the shoutout... wow i am soo lucky! Thank you so much
If you make highways, try these two types:
Main highway: Main route connecting the city like a backbone highway transportation.
Auxiliary highway: Such as spurs, alternate routes, bypasses and loops are helpful for the main route.
What do you think?
That should work as well.
However, don't make too much branches of freeways because the more to place, the higher you pay. Just make only a few freeway branches instead.
I recommended like one bypass around the city or a loop around the metro area. Put only a few spurs (like a spur to the airport) but not much. Connectors are optional like a connector between two main freeways or one main and one alternate.
I love 1 main highway that expands in the urban area and reduces near the outskirts...
Check out my Busy Island Traffic ua-cam.com/video/-I4MQISSOAY/v-deo.html
I miss a lot of "Lane Mathematics" (like Biffa calls it) on your highways. They can distress the traffic too because it helps the game AI
I think you meant destress.
You are one of the many good underrated Cities Skylines youtubers. Keep up the good work!
Glad you think so!
1st time watching your vids. amazing job making vanilla cs look good! have my sub good sir :)
Thank you kindly!
You just earned a new subs!😍
Yay! Thank you!
Amazing video thanks
YOU are amazing and thank you for watching!
"But let's say you did not plan..."
Me: Oh neat, a personalized video just for me!
Awesome!😱😎
While watching this I realized how much i'm thankful for mods. Placing those monorail in acceptable height at 3:30 was totally unnecessary nightmare.
Ok, at 9:00 it was even worse. Happily I didn't pass 10k cims without mods so I didn't experienced all those "quirks and features". Also I have to say it's super aesthetic city and making it without mods is really a piece of CS's art and big mark of your calm.
Finally someone who agrees with me on not using tunnels, in my city’s even when I use metros I will only use tunnels where I can’t do it in old high density areas and will make sure that every line has sections above ground and I only use road tunnels if I want to simulate a toll crossing under the sea and I always have it being a single road one lane each direction so there is interesting merging at the ends
Nice! Welcome to the club
Really helpful, thx
Glad it helped
I barely understood most of this, but still learned a valuable lesson: Build your highway into the next square you want to buy before you buy your next square.
It all makes sense now!
Discovered your channel a view days ago and I love it 👍 nice work so far 😉 when will the next episode come out? 😍
I'm still struggling to get 2 videos out a week due to the script writing and planning for the next videos. So it usually takes me more or less a week for the next video.
I watch this episode maybe once a week.
Super useful
Thanks for the nice episode. Hope you can help with transportation planning specially trains. I always find myself spending a lot on trains and not sure how to manage them. I’m talking about population of more than 200k with all tiles unlocked. Thanks
Perhaps in a future Season, I can attempt for more population. However, having just more or less 100k pop is good enough for me.
👍. Thank you
No, no, thank YOU!
Finally, a video we all needed but we didn't know what to ask
What you are able to do without mods is wicked! Wow
Thank you for noticing!
Nice job bro! (CiViCMiNiM)
That 4-way highway interchange at the center-bottom at 0:05 looks great! What episode is it from?
I love how this video hasn't got one dislike great work man!
I don't think there's a video with no dislike
Sad but true. No worries at all.
You sir are a genius with the smooth road levelling trick, I’m on console and can’t get mods so this is great!
Glad I could help!
Road simulator, I like it!!!
Very helpful video! Do you have any tips for tree/rock placement?
Thank you! To answer your question, no I do not, but I can put it on the list of videos to make!
Beautiful interchanges, excellent use of over/underpasses, and splitting your traffic. I think I’ll stick with my mods though. 😅
Nothing wrong with using mods! Next season will be light modded gameplay!
Kinda wish that cities skylines could give you a tutorial on how to properly build highways because I didn't actually know how.until this video.
👍This video is a perfect tutorial. Give me next please
Soon enough!
I accept your excusing at 9:00
Thank you kindly!
This is unbeliveable. 25k population, NO transit mods, NO metro, NO buses, NO cargo trains and traffic still running like butter up 90%. So fucking awesome!!!!
And we're going to maintain +90% traffic flow at a little over 100k pop, but with transportation though.
i dont get that till im 80k
I noticed in this map no outside train connection but you can build cargo stations for transporting good internally
Fortunately, the industry area in the city produces enough of its own goods so there is less need to import. There are still imports, but not as much.
Jesus christ, this is some advanced shit
How or where did you learn to create those beautiful vanilla interchanges?
I think the corner interchange can still be improved. But probably when I unlock the final tile so I know exactly how much space I'm working with.
If @capitain Ahvious lived in Canada, I’d fly him to my house for a cities skylines course lol
There are a couple of points about Cities Skylines in general. In order to make it realistic, you can't escape mods like the Node Controller, precision Engineering, Traffic Manager, Road Anarchy and Move It!
And if you want a good traffic flow, you have to draw inspiration from the European model of city design, so many roundabouts, bicycle paths and a lot of public transport options that go all around the city instead of the American City Center to Residential area and create "Hubs" where multiple lines meet all around the city so that the citizens can easily transfer.
If you follow the American model of building Cities Skylines you get too many straight grids with busy junctions and the zoning split up way too much.
Yes, mods would greatly make the city look more realistic. However, this is a Vanilla build to inspire others who can't use multiple mods or are on console.
Nice videos Captain! can I ask a question, if my industry area is nearer to the highway exit than to harbour, I see most of the trucks just use highway. Do you know the mechanism behind it? how do I direct the trucks to harbour? I tried to ban the trucks on highway entries, but by doing that I banned all the trucks for commercial deliveries. Can you help? thank you
Its easier to see the problem, can you post a screenshots to my discord under need-help-cities. Because it would really also depend on how far away the cargo harbors are. If the trucks still need to access the highway to get to the cargo harrbor, then they will do so. Yah its hard to say without clearly seeing the situation.
thanks now my traffic isnt that red anymore it was useful
im so paranoid of traffic that my city is a web of roads with some buildings in between. But hey it works.
Wow your intersections are a thing of beauty
Thank you kindly!
The "move-it" mod allows you to fix all those node problems
Indeed, though we are a vanilla build to show case for console players that they can still build their dream city without mods.
I understand people wanting vanilla. But when people on a PC say they wish Move It was part of the base game will that's silly. Add it. You don't have to use features you think shouldn't be in the base game like copying let's say. Use what you think should be in the base game mod wise. Use mods that you feel should be in the base game. Darn simple I'd say. I build interchanges. Yes I could build them in vanilla and take hours deleting and place deleting and placing until I get it just right. Or take 20 minutes using Move It. I want to add you are very good. I always tip my hat to pure vanilla builders who build wonderfully looking and working cites. I wouldn't be able to do it. Taking hours to places things than take minutes using Move It. I tip my hat to you. I couldn't and I won't do it.
The wishing for Move-It on base game is definitely for the benefit for console players. I'm pleased to showcase that there's still hope for console players that they can still build their dream city with no mods.
Hey, what DLCs should i get, i want the same you use in the video
I use all DLCs, but if you plan to get any, I highly suggest to wait for a steam sale. It usually goes on sale in alternating months or so. Put it on your steam wishlist.
If you follow roadway hierarchy it should work
Imagine, gentlemen, if you will: if this man had been the urban planner for Metro Manila. We wouldn't be in this traffic hell. A man can daydream, yeah?
Thank you for thinking so!
If only you can delete roads and rebuild it without affecting the existing traffic. And force people to move out for your new roads
Nice spilt camera.
Nice video! But could i know what your map name is? Thanks
Fisher Enclave from the Sunset Harbor DLC
trafiic planning stuck in the 80ties....but nicely done anyway.....
Can we change from low density residential to high without dezoning it ?
I tried to replace without dezone it but seem to not work
Yah you need to dezone.
why you dont build the post service in this city? and what effect if to the city if it not have post service?
The effect is less traffic because no post trucks! There's nothing note worthy of having postal service.
No tunnels? Hm. _looks at his current map which is 60% (or more) mountains over 81 tiles_
Gonna stick to my tunnels, I think.
I'm really struggling with the part where you lower the ground so you can build a bridge then put a road underneath it. Like I've seen you do a couple times. Every time I just end up with a huge crater and a big unfixable disaster. Any tips on that?
Are you playing vanilla with no mods?
@@Captain_Ahvious No I am playing with some mods on PC
Hopefully, this video on landscaping and bridges tutorial will help. ua-cam.com/video/Vx-6Nm5B2vs/v-deo.html
@@Captain_Ahvious thanks a lot that should help me out
I wish Fisher Enclave had trains :(
it's Such a beautiful map.
I'm planning to add a trainline in a future episode.
I basically follow all the steps of adding highways. However, my cims all seem to be stupid. Well, not really, but they just prefer the shortest rout in terms of distance and not time every time, which leads to highways being deserted while avenues are flooded with traffic.
Then I would suggest to funnel them to the highway. So for this instance, I could opt to play without bridges in the middle and they would have no choice but to take the suggested highway or public transportation.
@@Captain_Ahvious tried that as well. Just moved the problem.
people building better looking cities than most irl cities and I just make my city a grid and call it a day
Are you sure at 3:52 the highway exit's direction is right?
It’s not, but he doesn’t notice at that point
It was fixed a few minutes later into the video. But thanks for pointing it out! There are other things that I do miss in other videos.
Where's your accent from if you don't mind?
sound? please!
Ya I'm so surprised with how connected they are with the community that they haven't made the move it mod a free patch. Anyone have any idea why they wouldn't?
Perhaps they keeping it for a feature for a possible Cities Skylines 2.
You don't need highways for a good traffic flow. With highways you bundle all traffic through one road, with normal roads you spread them. My biggest city has a population of over 600,000 people and the city center of 3x3 tiles doesn't have any highways and it has perfect traffic. With the strategy in the video it would mean that I need 9 highways just for the city center! I don't want to ruin my beautiful city with unnecessary highways and you should not want that too
Awesome. Too bad this city only exists in a digital simulation. I'd looooove to live in that city
Thank you for saying so!
I am very triggered that the half dogbone interchange roundabout is two way :D
It has been updated in the following episode. Thanks for pointing it out!
@@Captain_Ahvious my pleasure =)
how would you want your airport design be like.
Airport will be on the 9th tile on the large island as it is also available on the final milestone.
so what does the 3rd highway do......?
Hello, what time frame in the video is the 3rd highway that you speak of?
@@Captain_Ahvious starts at ua-cam.com/video/MmwYUGpu7Io/v-deo.html
for the love of god, "move it! mod"
How do people build these things without using infinite money
Well the answer is you can watch Episode 1 to see how we got to this point :)
I'm on the Xbox so I think I'm way more limited
@@LongLivesteph A little more limited yes, but this series is not dependent on steam mods. Therefore, console players can also follow.
your roundabouts is not roundabouts about its supposed to be one way. haha having it the way you have it in reality would be chaos and destruction and countless life's lost haha
roblox had a realistic avatar cuz roblox is now shutdown
bruh
