The pliers look great and thanks for sharing the bluing formula.
Thanks!
Being a plumber, i have several pair of Channel lock brand pliers (15-20 pair) I often carry the 426 as part of my work EDC. I find it more useful than a multi tool in my line of work and cheaper than Knipex. I wish they made replacement handle covers like Klein does. These turned out wonderful!!
Thanks Patrick! One viewer suggested heat shrink tube for the handles.
What a sharp looking pair of pliers. The treatment left a unique texture but looks really good.
Thanks! It was a happy accident!
It's always a treat to see something get the MagDad treatment. Thanks for showing the rust blue process - the finish looks great!
Thanks Bill!
Love that size of Channellock. That's a unique finish that takes a little longer to produce but well worth it.👍🏻
Thanks Mike! It protects against corrosion too!
Can't beat a good pair of Channellock! That finished turned out nice!
Thanks George!
Thanks for the new ideas of rust blur treating. What a nice small pliers. I have one I need to restore. As a firefighter I ran so many wrecks on limited access, high-speed highways. I found so many tools that bounced off work trucks - a hydraulic floor jack, hammers OTA, wrenches, screw drivers and at least five Channel Lock pliers. All of them still in the tool box and still needing TLC.
Thanks for watching and for your service!
Nice restoration Magdad! The rust bluing looks awesome
Thanks Ivan!
I love your combination of restoration and history. Interesting and enlightening.
Great video buddy.
Thanks! Researching the history is a fun part of the hobby!
Very nicely done. I like the DIY rust blueing. Something I'll have to eventually try.
Thanks! Give it a try!
Hi magdad. Great job on those pliers. Looking great. Have a great week. 👍👍❤.
Thanks Larry!
That’s a cool finish. I used that recipe many years ago on the fire pit I built except I didn’t boil it ( it weighs 600 pounds ). It gave the fire pit an instant rust patina. It took a few months to darken out in the weather, but it’s still sitting out there. Good job thanks.
Thanks Joe!
Those Swpeet wheels are amazing. I've been using them for a while now since I saw them on your videos. They do an amazing job and never throw a bristle at you. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks Kim! I'm glad the bristle wheels are working for you!
One could also plastic dip the handles they have it in light blue but they look great overall
Thanks Larry!
The pliers cleaned up very well. Very good job on the rust bluing. A nice finish, worth the time and effort. Well done.
Dave.
Thanks Dave! It's fun watching the red rust turn black!
"It a awl, not a pokey thing" LOL anyway, those are some super chanellocks, another pro job by Magdad, Thanks for the rust blue tip.
Thanks! Plaid is a color!
Well, you did it again! I enjoyed seeing you cooking!
Channellock soup lol
Thanks John! Rust soup!
Very nice results 👍 I like the size of those pliers too 👍
Thanks! They are almost pocket size!
The pliers look great! The rust bluing is very effective and looks really nice. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
I dont know why i like the pre restoration one much more ..😂
I don't know why you do either...
Great video. I need to keep an eye out for garage electric frypan. I use my kitchen nonstick one from the 70’s several times a year. Nothing does sautéed onions better.
Thanks Eric! I found that pan at a yard sale!
Love the Old Electric Skillet.🍳🥚🥓🥓
Eggs are Gold right now.
It is a nice classic piece!
I seriously need to add a set conditioning belts for my 1x30!
I use them on almost every project!
@ I see that and I really like the results! Now I have a set on my Amazon cart… 👍🏼
I still have my first set of pliers from when I was a kid in the 70's. They are Sears brand. Might have to try this and revive them💯
Give it a try Chris!
Turned out great. The homemade bluing looks good.
Thanks WM3!
Excellent work, Magdad! The DIY bluing is great, and gives a handsome finish. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Those pliers came out great. Another great job. I like the DIY bluing and I am going to have to give it a try. Thanks.
Thanks Mike! Give it a try!
The pliers turned out great. I love Channellocks!
Thanks! An iconic american manufacturer!
Love that DIY bluing I will have to try that. Great job!!
Thanks! Give it a try!
Nice work. ChannelLock right here in good old Meadville PA! I've had a lot of success with that bluing method. Seems to create a more durable finish. 👍
Thanks Matt! Check out my long term corrosion test:

Pilers came out looking nice also, thanks for sharing bluing agent ingredients.
Thanks Rodney!
Man they came out nice! Mr. Dave is a Classic as well! Nice job all the way around!
Thanks Vic!
Very cool outcome like that idea. May have to give it a try one day. Some of the older tools I have would look great like that after a good cleaning- Great video as always. 👍👍
Thanks! Give it a try!
Nice result! I’m going to try your DIY bluing on a pair of Channel Locks I’ve had in the “these need help” tool bag.
Give it a try and let me know how you make out!
@ wil do. Finally followed you on the Gram, and I’ll send you pics there when I’m done.
I love Channelock pliers. A Channelock 426 was my first pliers as a kid, still have it. I have refurbished it and used Plasti-Dip, not the best handle cover. Your method of homemade bluing looks great.
Thanks Larry! I have a couple pliers that I plasti-dipped. They are holding up so far.
Nice save on the pliers. I like Channelock pliers and try to pick them up at sales if the price is right. I haven't come across the small type yet. I admit I was a little nervous about the bluing because the natural finish looked so good, but the bluing came out well. Its cool that the company is still in the same hands after so many years. This is a rarity.
Thanks Pat! There are a lot of good finishing options.
Awesome restoration. They are a newer pair of pliers because I see they are marked Meadville, PA versus vintage pairs that are marked Jamestown, NY.
Thanks! I think Crescent is located in Jamestown.
Try some heat shrink tubing for new grips.
Thanks for watching Todd!
Elegant little gripper. Nice save!
Thanks Guy!
Excellent - looks like granite now! Sweet!
Thanks ScoutCrafter! It was a happy accident.
Have you tried making your own "Evaporust"? 1 liter of water, 100 g of citric acid, 40 g of washing soda and some dish soap as a surfactant. I've made it and it works really well. It doesn't eat the base metal, just the rust. It is reusable like Evaporust and it works faster on surface rust. Half hour to an hour for surface rust. There are a few videos on UA-cam. I won't share a link in the comments, I'm not plugging any specific channel. I would like to see what you think about it. I respect your opinion and you have experience with evaporust. Would be a cool video. Thanks for listening.
Thanks for watching! I've tried vinegar and citric acid. They both work, but they are acids and the metal flash rusts when rinsed.
Excellent!
Thanks!
They came out real nice. The bluing looks great. Good job! 👍
Thanks Frank!
Your DIY bluing looks good. They turned out great! 😀👍
Thanks!
Hey !Bonjour Magdad, superbe restauration de cette pince. Et très bel historique de cet outil. ❤
Thanks Patrick
Just beautiful!!!
Thank you!
That was a great tutorial Magdad liked the finish that you applied on these.👍🏻🇦🇺
Thanks Troy!
Nice job, the rust treatment looks good!
Thanks!
Very interesting restoration, they look great. Take care.
Thanks Don!
As always, super video!!
Thanks Christopher!
They look great. Good job.
Thanks wire!
Thanks 👍
Thanks Tony!
That’s is really awesome Magdad!!!
You come up with a lot of great ideas. Question: if using the hydrogen peroxide could take away the hardness , wouldn’t it be better to use cold blueing on a punch?
Thanks Jack. I don't think the low concentration hydrogen peroxide harms the metal.
really nice
Thank you!
The clean-up work was fine, but I'm sorry, Magdad, but I can't say that I'm impressed with your blueing process. Cold blueing would have given it a much better finish, but I will give you a thumbs up for your efforts. 👍
Thanks for watching! Rust bluing offers superior corrosion protection. Check out my bluing options video:

@@357magdadYou might think about adding some 4:1 glue lined double walled heat shrink to the handles. It works great on older pliers that didn't originally have them. 🤔
You should have replaced the hair dryer with the jet exhaust from the Chuckmobile
LOL good idea!
Thanks Magdad, that's a great result, the rust blueing is an intriguing process, I don't pretend to understand the science but the results are excellent, how do you feel it compares with the cold blueing ? I love all Champion Tools, farrier tools are very specialist with a price-tag to match ! That steel looked great quality sometime you just feel it even from a distance !

Not easy to work on with that hard flat steel. Well done!
Really enjoyed the restoration, and always look forward to hearing about the history as well. Is there a way to send you a few small things? Would love to see you do something with them. Thanks.
Thanks Kevin! Please send me an email 357mdad@gmail.com
Cool, nice job.
Thanks!
Nice
Thanks Terry!
An interesting bluing process. They turned out wonderful. Go Eagles!
The Birds are Super Bowl Champs!
I'm going to guess that the speckling is from the salt not being fully dissolved in the bluing solution.
You might be able to reduce the total amount of salt or warm the solution to help it dissolve more.
Still looks great tho.
And now im curious about the chemistry.
I think I did too much brushing on the final treatment and got bubbles in my solution.
@357magdad hmm. That could be. I just know from a prior experience of making patina on brass... The salt was the culprit for me.
But that was with ammonia and salt... So perhaps you are right.
Still love the way they turned out!
Do you think it would be safe to blue a old knife blade in this manner?
I think so.
Do you have the link for the “knock off” red label attachments for the rotary tool?
Check out my rotary tool tips and tricks video. I included links for just about everything I use.

totally inspiring! i have the same job to perform. cheers
I was doubtful about the rust bluing, but I have admit they came out looking real nice. Will this finish resist rust now? Is there a need to store them oiled? Oh, BTW, I was envisioning Mrs. MagDad after frying up next Sunday's chicken dinner: "I don't understand why my chicken has a hint of rust flavor!"
Check out my rust blue extended corrosion test:

357 Magdad, you have created a thing of beauty. Can I ask where you get the conditioning belts, in the UK they are priced at over $50, ouch.
Sorry Tony, I don't know of a UK company that makes them.
Well done, Sir !!! (Does Mrs. Magdad know that you are using her electric skillet....????)
Thanks Steven! Mrs Magdad would be mad if that pan was hers!
Have you ever tried to put Klein koats on channellock pliers?
I have not Mitch.
Fabulous work ! Did you change the water after each boil?
Thanks Steve! I didn't change the water, but I added to it as it boiled off.
Wow, like new, MAGDAD. Can you tell what year they were made?
Thanks! I'm not sure when the 426 was first offered.
So, do you think that the DIY blueing solution works better than a commercial solution?
It has superior corrosion protection. Check out my comparison:
ua-cam.com/video/QkcKGgHGRo8/v-deo.html
Nice touch on the Rust Bluing on the Old Channellock Pliers nice little user around the shop .. But i was more intrigued by the electric frying pan LOL I have not seen one like that in years or use one in years a nice little blast from the past still can taste those greasy hamburgers frying in the pan ... Great video Mr Magdad take care enjoy your Sunday .. Go CHIEFS 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆 LOL BTW i don't really care who wins both are great teams
I found that pan at a yard sale. GO BIRDS!
