Interesting how the Rust Remover brought out the hardened sections!! Nicely done Mate!!☻
Thanks RoadKing! Revealing the heat treatment is an added bonus of the magic juice.
I like the different weight in a hammer. Small hammers have lots of uses.Nice clean up.
Thanks Dale! I prefer the lighter hammer for the birdhouses I make.
Your patience really shows in all of your restorations!😊
Thanks Steve! Mrs Magdad says I'm relentless.....
What a great little hammer, I bet it is a joy to use with great balance. Awesome! 😃👍
Thanks ScoutCrafter! I got to test drive it on the last batch of birdhouses - it seems well made.
The curse of tool restorations "crap it's now to pretty to use " lol
The struggle is real James!
That groundhog's voice was super cute!
MagDaughter and I made that video 10 years ago!
Good clean up Magdad.....i like the green/ gold combo they had..
Thanks Vic! It is a nice combo!
Very nice user hammer MagDad. I like the octagonal head. Well done!
Thanks Bill!
I have the exact same one. Now I have to clean mine up. Looks good. I like this hammer a lot. Handed down from my father.
Thanks Patrick! I'm glad you still have your father's!
Nicely done, magDad! I'm partial to this size claw hammer as they can manage many, if not most, of one's indoor needs without having to resort to the use of the more readily available and heavier 16-ounce hammer which can be overkill. Working with an attractively restored tool makes a job so much more enjoyable, kinda like driving a nicely cleaned and prepped car. And with six more weeks of winter per P-Phil, we'll have more time for indoor shop projects for sure. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Bob! It's a great size for knocking together my birdhouses!
I really like how the hammer came out. I love the green.
Thanks Robert!
Nice restoration for a user hammer. Thanks Magdad
Thanks Michael!
Restration perfection for the purpose. Greatly enjoyed the show!
Thanks! Happy Groundhog Day!
Looks good! Thanks for the little history. Any hammer for a buck is a good hammer
Thanks Jack!
Looks great. I haven't seen one of those in many years.
Thanks! Looks like it came out in the late 60's.
Thanks Magdad, that was a bargain at $1, looks great now, but not too good to use, you know you're gonna have to look out for the Ball Pein version now !
You did a great job on keeping the face domed, it was very cool how the hardened steel showed up after the EvapoRust !
I would love to find the ball peen version!
Nice tool and great clean up.
Thanks John!
The hammer looks great! I like the Ground Hog Day video too. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John! MagDaughter and I filmed that clip 10 years ago!
Ames was a shovel company founded in a small town called North Easton, MA, the next town over from where I live. The old granite buildings are still in place and are very cool looking. Surprised the hammer does not say made in the USA. Nice piece. Thanks!
The old ad shows a sticker on the shaft. Maybe it said made in USA.
Hammer cleaned up well and looks good. Nice video and the critters at the end too. 🤓👍
Thanks! MagDaughter and I made that video 10 years ago!
@@357magdad 👍
Nice clean up Magdad. I remember my dad having a claw hammer like that.
Thanks Ivan!
The hammer came out very nice Great video. Thanks
Thanks Mike!🐸
Great cleanup. That hammer is a great user and was a good deal for $1. I didnt know True Temper was owned by Ames. Pieces of tool information like that are always interesting to me. Thanks.
Thanks Pat! Researching the history is a fun part of the hobby!
Nice hammer 🔨 great job and hopefully the groundhog is wrong and some warmer weather will arrive soon and get rid of my cabin fever 😂
Thanks! I'm ready for spring!
Very nice looks like a great hammer thanks for sharing your time and skill 🍺👍👍
Thanks Brian!
Now that's a great looking user, bought a lot of true temper golf shafts over the years fixing golf clubs for people. As for the groundhog same here in northern British Columbia.......cold. take care.
Thanks! I think there was True Temper fishing rods too.
“Flex action power” for the win! Nice.
Thanks Sue!
Looks amazing, I love the colors on it. It will make a nice user.
Thanks!
It's amazing the results you can achieve without abusing the tool with an angle grinder!
Sometimes less is more...
Great job Magdad. I have a similar hammer that I paid 100% more than you did. ($2 🤣) You inspired me to work on it. I’m encouraged with Phil’s prediction. He’s been wrong 70% of the time in recent history. Thanks! 🇺🇸
Thanks Stan! Have fun cleaning up your hammer!
Nice job
Had one of those many, many years ago
It looks like they came out in the late 60's.
Hey !Bonjour Magdad vraiment du très beau travail de nettoyage sur ce marteau, il est presque comme neuf et servira de longues années. ❤
Thanks Patrick! I look forward to using it for a long time!
I like the history that you put with the the tool and your Hammer turn out perfect thank you for the video
Researching the history is a fun part of the hobby.
Nice job. Now you have a great user.
Thanks!
A grand job on that one. I agree thd the other is too good to use, it's a beauty!
Thanks! Those Estwings are pretty!
Nice cleanup. Looks like that will be useful in the shop
Thanks! It's a great size for knocking together my birdhouses.
I agree with you on not using my Estwing leather handled hammer, too nice. The True Temper hammer cleaned up well, interesting pattern after the Evaporust showed the tempered sections. I bought a Vaughan 12 ounce hammer and they are handy.
Thanks Larry! It is cool to see where it was heat treated.
Very nice job! I feel the same about my Estwing leather handle hammers after restoration, too nice to use!😁
The Estwing is a great little hammer, but ever since I made the decals I don't want to use it.
Nice job. I always thought True Temper was a proprietary brand of Ace Hardware. Now I know better.
Thanks Ben!
Great user hammer, a nice restoration !!
Thanks Tony!
Looks great
Thanks!
Doesn't look like it was used much before you got it. Nice job.
Thanks! I'm glad I spotted it on the dollar table!
You that hammer to come out looking great. Will be a good user hammer for you, thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Thanks Terry!
Looks very nice.
Thanks WM3!
That cleaned up very well. As you said, looking good, but not too good so it can be used.
I have a Craftsman fiberglass handled hammer from the mid 80's. I used this until I missed some nails and caused minor splinters on the side of the shaft near the head. I then got an Estwing hammer which I love. I still have the Craftsman, but it is rarely used these days.
Dave.
Thanks Dave! I gave it a test drive on the last batch of birdhouses I made.
Nice job on that cool old hammer
Thanks Dave!
Tools are made to be used. Hammering some nails is probably what's been waiting for!
I was already using it this weekend Bill!
I was disappointed that you didn’t show it in action, fixing Chuck’s house!
I test drove it on my last batch of birdhouses.
Great job
Thanks Patrick!
I like the color scheme on that hammer! Great clean up. Did that say 2015?
Thanks! MagDaughter and I made that Groundhog video 10 years ago!
One hammer, all ready for the springtime Thor...!
I've already put it to use!
@@357magdadThat's quick! It's not even Thorsday yet!
Nice, thanks for sharing
Thanks Terry!
I have one exactly like it that was sold by Montgomery Wards as a Power Crafter but it has a steel handle with the same blue foam grip, flat aspects around the head and light gray/blue paint in key places on the head. I wonder who made it to be re-branded? I think I have seen Stanley hammers like it as well.
I think most manufacturers dabbled in steel and fiberglass shafts.
That's was well worth what you paid it's in great shape and good user tool
Thanks Larry! I'm glad I spotted it on the dollar table!
I inherited a few of these from.my grandpa.and uncle.
That's great Ralph!
I know you said it was a user, however that hammer head is screaming for some green paint, Nice job!
Thanks Scott! Painting would be over the top.
Great little shop hammer…good All around weight…and for a dollar !!! …🖖🏻
Thanks! I'm glad I spotted it on the dollar table!
Very nice hammer clean up, 13oz hammers are great for the shop. Did I see a groundhog, or am I just just in need of coffee? lol
Thanks! MadDaughter and I made that video 10 years ago. She's in college now!
A "JUST RIGHT" restoration... JUST good enough to appreciate but not too good to use lol.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to using it!
Fork and Hoe? Somehow that just sounds dirty. 😂
LOL
Nice looking hammer
Thanks Ron!
My grandfather always told me that an unused tool is a useless tool.
And that goes for everything.
Your grandfather would see a lot of useless tools hanging up in my shop.
Nice work, MAGDAD! Did you consider touching up the green paint?
Thanks! I want this to be a user, so I didn't consider paint.
Great clean up for a user. Let me know how you made out with that Armor All on the handle. I used Armor All on a handle similar to that years ago and it always felt greasy to this day.
I was using the hammer this weekend on a honey-do project. It was a little slippery. I don't plan on applying any more Armor All.
Very nice cleanup and almost restoration. We won't use that word so you can use that tool. Ill be interested in knowing how it feels in your hand. Estwings excel at creating balanced hamners that feel good in the hand and fore arm when swung.
Thanks! I test drove it on my last batch of birdhouses.
Nice light Hamner for a $1.00 👍
Thanks! I'm glad I spotted it on the dollar table!
Darn groundhog saw his shadow again this year!
Beautiful "user" hammer Magdad. I just did an Estwing 22 oz. straight claw hammer yesterday. It was covered with paint blotches, but is looking pretty good now.
Thanks Tom! Estwing makes a nice hammer!
Are the scrubby wheels similar to the red label belts but for the rotary tool? Thanks
Similar material, yes.
Mr Phil said 6 more weeks of Winter 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎BOO .. BOO .. The TT hammer looks great .. Great for the small projects Also another New England made product .. Take care and enjoy your Sunday looking forward to Wednesdays video
I said nothing of the sort....😅
Thanks Roger! I've got something a little different planned for Wednesday...
Loved this resto. It looked like the head had been painted green. Did you think about repainting it? Or was that over the top?
Thanks Kim! Paint would have been over the top.
That's kind of what I thought. I just wondered if that's how it came.
Magdad,
Is Chuck on vacation? First groundhogs and a new(ish) hammer with no Flitz? Chuck must be stewing,
I was expecting to see you blue the darker portions of the hammer. I wonder how they tempered the hammer head with such precision?
Bob
Chuck was worn out from polishing all those classy brassy pokey things!
too nice to use ,😊😊😊 i know what you mean exactly
Sometimes I get carried away.....
I've got hammer envy. Doesn't the ArmorAll make the handle slick though?
I used it to rejuvenate the plastic. I wouldn't recommend coating it regularly.
True Temper was a True Value Hardware brand. In October 2024, True Value Hardware filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and and sold most of its operations to Do it Best, a competitor hardware store. The sale was completed in November 2024.
The American Fork and Hoe True Temper is an Ames brand now.
You forgot to clean up the inside curve of the claw
The evapo-rust did the job for me.
Those hammers weren't cheap for '69 either. It's a thin line between a user and a show piece..
It seems like good quality. I'm looking forward to using it more!
I was expecting some Tub of Towels action on the handle. Scoutcrafter is not angry with you, just disappointed. I just found Tub of Towels at Harbor Freight this week. They must be expanding.
Super Clean did a nice job on the handle. The Armor All gave it a nice shine.
Don't like steel handled hammers.
I like Estwings.
No tool is too pretty to use.
Many viewers have commented that my projects are too nice to use.
You didn’t like my last comment so I’m going to skip this one.
Oh wait…
Thanks for watching!
Talk about low effort video.
