Thank you for posting this video. I do have some questions about doing that. 1) I have done a full exhaust swap on my 2021 Z900 and I have heard of people saying to do block off plates or do the plugs. What is the reason for doing that? 2) is there anything else that needs to be disconnected or disabled after doing the caps or block off plates? Thanks in advance for your time
I have a 2021 with full exhaust also. Best practice is to get a tune as well. I have the Rapidbike autotuner and it's been amazing. 1. People block it off to stop popping on deceleration. The system pretty much just helps to put some fresh air into your exhaust so the unburnt fuel is ignited and emissions are reduced. When you understand that, it makes sense why blocking it off stops popping on deceleration. 2. That's all you really need to do. Blocking off that hose and inlet stops air from being pumped in. If you use the plates, you can remove the hoses and stock plate pieces connected upstream. Might save you a few ounces but nothing significant. Important to leave the pump wiring connected, however, or you'll get a dash light. I don't do any of this since I love popping and flames :)
@@tcpfuzz9215 I'll do the plug on the hose and the bottom of the air box and will do a tune eventually. I'm not a huge fan of the popping so losing that won't be a deal breaker lol. Thanks for the reply 👍
So I just got a 24 Z900 and was looking to do this. Did you have to unplug your O2 sensor? I'm planning on sending it to 2WDW for a ecu flash and it says on there page to unplug 02 sensor and block off AIS.
@TheLastUchiha337 Hey man, I just did my 22’ z900! To answer your question you will have to unplug the sensor, I traced the cable all the way back under the gas tank and completely unplugged it. as far as AIS I blocked it off, but I don’t know if it’s necessary I’ve been trying to do my research, I’ll I’ve come up with is that the AIS block off will just prevent backfire? Correct me if I’m wrong on the AIS block off but good luck!
No, not at all. In fact with the exception on internal engine modifications I have yet to hear of anyone having their warranty voided by Kawasaki, not even with an ECU flash
Got a full system for my Z last week. Going to use this method block the PAIR system. Also, do the revs still climb up to 2k on cold start after doing this?
Perhaps someone's with more knowledge will chime in but I believe that is normal. I literally just finished doing the plugs a few minutes ago. Started it up and it revved up as normal until it started idling down as it normally did as the temperature went up.
I know this is late but just watched this as I’m soon to be putting a full Leo Vince on my 2019 Z900. Does this work over removing entire system and using plates ? One I put my exhaust and pc5 and do this and the O2 sensor should I be good to go?
Very simple, there is one bolt under the front seat and three on the side panel and they will come off. There is one bolt that the very front of the panel is attached with but I just swung the panel upwards to get it out of the way. All screws use the same size Allen wrench which I believe came in the bikes tool kit under the seat
@@AverageCarGuy thank you so much! Just installed Leo Vince full system it’s very loud and lots popping so I definitely want to cap the AIS tube instead of block off plate. A sub to my channel would be awesome 😎 thanks again
Hello brother. I installed Austin racing Deact exhaust and the popping is more when deceleration and I’m planning to get AIS block off plates soon to reduce popping. so can I install the block off plates without remapping my bike?
+Samuel Kaila you’re going to need a new map regardless but the AIS isn’t really related. I would do the AIS before new map if you’re getting a custom map so it accounts for everything.
Average Car Guy okay. But I didn’t remap my bike yet after installing deact exhaust system. Now I just want to install only block off plates to reduce popping on bike. So for installing block off plates does remap really required? I’m thinking to install block off plates without getting remap done on my bike. Is this safe for engine?
Samuel Kaila the PAIR system is an emissions thing which burns off unburnt gases that enter the exhaust. Hence the pops and bangs. It has no effect on engine life or power whatsoever. Plus, you get an accurate AFR reading on the dyno pulls.
Do you still have the stock halogen headlight bulbs on your bike? I bought a LED h7 kit, they fit but the metal clip holding in does not provide enough pressure to hold the light in place, gonna try a large diameter washer and/or rubber washer.
why not remove the ais unit and install block off plates ? .. and is this a must when flashing the ecu ? .. should it be done before flash or after ? ..
Hello have anyone unplugged hoses after some period? I plugged hoses two months ago and yesterday i wanted to check is everything good and i saw some white liquid stay in hoses. Anyone know what is that liquid or is that normal?
diamondheat9 so I’m really embarrassed to admit, but turns out the small bracket that goes on top on both block off plates was put underneath them. I had a complete brain fart. 🤷🏻♂️ so my block off plates had a gap in them towards the front bolts, and was causing the ticking to be extremely loud. So anyone else that has done this, that’s what’s wrong. I also could be the only idiot that did it that way! 😂
I have a 2019 z900rs cafe. I just bought it. It has the full Akrapovic system installed. It also has a power commander installed. I get the decel pop issue. Can I just simply plug the AIS or are there more steps I need to take?
Hi bro. I have a Leovince lv-10 Slip on on my Z900 and I'm planning on breadbox delete using mid pipe, not full cat delete so O² sensor remains. Will I have that popping issue?
You will definitely get the popping. I did a full exhaust on mine using akrapovic headers and Leovince LV pro slip on and I get the popping/backfiring on deceleration.
Average Car Guy ah ok. I’m waiting for my arrow headers and plan on getting it tuned, is there a difference between a “flash tune” and a “power commander V”?

So this kills the last bit of exhaust sound on this bike and is bad for the environment since unburnt fuel leaks out? Doesn't sound too great to me unless you wanna flash
AIS injects air into the exhaust chambers as a means of burning excess fuel when the bike is decelerating. It's basically an emissions control thing. The problem is when you update your exhaust and fuel there is really no way to update the AIS so you can basically block the pathway of the air instead. Congrats on your Z900. They're great bikes!
Average Car Guy thanks. I sometimes forget its basically a litre bike and it never fails to remind me when it does😅. And basically they installed a mechanical means of leaning out the mixture before it leaves the exhaust?
@@jgray7454 Every car and bike basically has this feature. It's not unique to this bike. On cars it's often called a purge valve and when it goes wrong you can't pass a smog test until you fix it.
Easier method, shove a marble in that line and reattach to air box , looks stock , fixes jerky throttle and deceleration pop

This method is the same as the plate. You can try and ride without it but you’ll get a lot of backfire when you slow down. It’ll get annoying.
Hi, please recommend some good bulbs (No LEDs) that will easily go in and make the beam stronger.
I bought the same kit and couldn't get the grommet to fit over either :(. I ended up doing exactly what you did.
The 1/2" cap goes inside of the hose (not on the outside of it)and the 5/8" cap goes over the nipple on the air box that the hose was connected to.
Do you have a video detailing how you remove all body peices? (tank trim ect) looked around your page and didn't see one, thanks in advance !
