    I had been trying to trap raccoons in this trap for the last 5 days. They kept retrieving the bait without setting it off. I watched your video yesterday and it was the GAME CHANGER! Bro, thank you so much for sharing this idea. It made all the difference. Am subscribed. Looking forward to more of your vids.

    I put a small marshmallow on just like that. I use that whipped marshmallow for bait and it never fails. I don't trap for money, I trap because I'm tired of coons messing around my house. These traps were a godsend because I live in a town and I can't be cutting loose with my shotgun.

    Thats a good idea. 1st time I've ever heard or seen anyone do that. And I've been using dp's for years. Good tip 👍

    Hey I know this is two years old but I’m sure you’re still catching critters. Anyway thanks for the tip inside the trap. I used what aircraft electricians call heat shrink. I layered it a couple of times to thicken it. Thanks again

    Interesting, Gary Bonnet (inventor and manufacturer of the Griz Gettr') showed us this tip in 2002 and we used it long before DP's were named DP's and UA-cam was just a Thought LOL. Just goes to show, what goes around - comes around,

    Do you like the powder coat more than bare? We use to dye them but one year we decided we would try a bare metal and it seemed like they were more curious about the shiny.

    • @blackspruceoutfitters9711
      @blackspruceoutfitters9711  3 роки тому

      When I first started buying them they were bare metal and I painted them white to give them some rust protection. Now they come powder coated so I paint the bottom half white so they stick out to the raccoons a bit more but leave the top half brown so the stand out if there is a light dusting of snow.

    have you ever had a dogproof nearly cut a paw off of a opossum or raccoon..we did and now we put a bit of thin tubing around the wire so it doesn't cut the foot off

      Did you have the trap somewhere for the animal to wrap around or get leverage on? Such as a tree/sapling, log, or anything like that? It's hard to believe you set it in an open area.

    • @blackspruceoutfitters9711
      @blackspruceoutfitters9711  3 роки тому

      I have not. I have heard of it happening though. The best thing you can do is check your traps as soon as possible so the animal isn’t in it as long.

      Just caught a racoon with one hand. I got him on the one good hand he had. Figured he was caught with someone else's trap, and got away. He didn't get away this time

    • @blackspruceoutfitters9711
      @blackspruceoutfitters9711  2 роки тому

      The raccoon is more comfortable grabbing a piece of rubber instead of a cold chunk of metal.

    I am new to the coon trapping world and I just got me this coon trap in the mail. Is it supposed to come with a setting tool? I do not know how to set it 🙄 Thank You for any feedback.. from Rookie of the yr. Lol

      They do not come with a setting tool. you can buy one if you choose to, but it is just as easy to use a large screwdriver.

    Wouldn't anybody, but a moron, just lay the hose on a solid surface, like a piece of wood, like maybe even a wood ruler, to cut it. Then the job would be, chop, chop, chop... And during the process, you wouldn't have to go bandage your thumb.
