Did this exact thing with regular hand sanitizer, gloves , toothbrush & fabric on a very old canon 300D which had been sitting in a camera bag for over a decade, extremely sticky and hands would come away black . Didn't even need the toothbrush, was extremely useful to have gloves on & very easy to clean the camera , the sanitizer worked like a charm ! Thanks so much for this video .
Mr C, It looks great. I'm glad you made this video. I have a D70s that had a sticky back. I used 99% Isopropyl alcohol to remove the stickiness. It took about 4 applications. I then restored the sheen by using Armor-All wipes. Ten years later, the camera still looks and feels like new.
You have solved a "sticky" problem that has bothered me for years. Both my D80 and D90 have had sticky surfaces that have frustrated me. Your instructional and informational video has solved the problem. They are almost completely free of stickiness. I thank you and appreciate your video.
Worked like a charm. Mine was so sticky you did not need a strap! Many thanks. For what it is worth I rubbed in a bit of ArmorAll after the cleaning. Seemed to work ok and gave a new luster to the camera back and covering.
Bro - just use Isopropyl alcohol 70%. The kind you get from the drug store and any sort of delivery device. I've used cotton swabs to do this in plastic that's covered by other rubber. You don't need to scrub. The alcohol cleans it all away nice and simple.
I've used sanitizer many times before and it leaves a white chalky film that's hard to remove. The sticky residue is like rubber cement and needs the sanitizer so it stays wet longer to dissolve it. Many camera backs & bodies are textured so brush works much better.
Using hand sanitiser is handy tip excuse the pun. I used rubbing acholal on a Nikon F90x (N90x) and a Minolta Dynax 7 and it worked well but but your method would probably be less harsh on the finish. Thanks for sharing your tips.
Thank you! For not so careful people who put sanitaizer around the controls, it is better to remove the battery from the camera and leave it for a some time at the end.
Quick question, what was the alcohol content of your hand sanitizer? Great video by the way. I used isopropyl on my Canon 50E grip worked a treat, but I have an Olympus E20N with a sticky grip so I'm gonna try your method. Regards Rob.
@@mr.cmr.c3855 thanks for reply, well I tried the hand gel (70%) on my Olympus E20N sticky grip, it didn't work on this occasion, so I've just stripped all of the sticky rubber off back to the plastic underneath. Cleaned it all up, It looks and feels great now. Strangely though the isopropyl worked well on my Canon 50E grip. OK, have a great day my friend. Regards Rob (UK)
Cif (in the UK or I think it's called Scrub Daddy in other countries) orange kitchen degreaser sprayed onto a kitchen towel wipe over as well as using the toothbrush is actual a far quicker method.
I hope you're doing fine, because your hand doesn't look good. Good tip, i've tried it with a old t-shirt, and 90% isopropyl alcohol, nothing helped. It was sticky as hell, extremely annoying, and my fingers have been sticky as hell, too. It is because the adheasive out of this plastic is vaporizing, which causes that chemical reaction and therefore sticky effect.
I had a kidney transplant a couple of years ago after 7.5 years on dialysis. A very rough and ongoing recovery with plenty of meds and immunosuppressant IV's.
@@mr.cmr.c3855 All the best for you. I've tried it again with a Hand sanatizer, and (you'd laugh) the inside of a face mask, which does the trick. My F80 is 99% like new, from the backside. Had no old Shirt to use it for. Figured also out, different hand sanatizer does have different effect, the one from my coworker is less fluid, worked best, whileas the one i've bought into a drugstore, is fluid like water, doesn't have the same, great effect.
@@geor992 Thats what i did, face mask inside for cleanup, and i put the hand sanatizer on with a soft toothbrush, always like 5-10 mins on the same corner, cleaning serveral times, then working to the next part..it went off this way on my 1st F80 perfectly.

@@mr.cmr.c3855 sorry i dont post videos anymore but it really works well. ive cleaned two nikon N80s and i just cleaned a canon rebel 2000 film camera today. just spray a little wd40 on a rag and rub it on the rubber/plastic grip that is sticky. the rag will turn black as the petroleum distillates in the wd40 break down the sticky surface.

Wow, that's great! I was in your shoes a few years ago and was fed up with sticky cameras.

Had a sticky D70s and it worked great 👍
Cool, glad it worked. Makes the camera feel like new again!
Thank you for sharing this tip. I will try this on my sticky USB drives as well. Thanks.
sure thing!
I have found Iso alcohol works really well. A jellied alcohol would be nice to let it soak in. I'll try this on my next sticky find.
Thanks.
Yes, alcohol works but it sometimes leaves a white residue that's difficult to remove.

Hi Rob, 70% Ethyl Alcohol. Maybe the sanitizer gel stays on longer without evaporating like alcohol.

Thanks for the suggestion I'll try on my F100. Video is good but the music in the background...boring! Anyway thanks agaiun 🙂
Try WD40 or Sugar Soap.. both worked for me..
Never tried it I'll keep it in mind
Be careful. When I wiped the stuff off, the letter L also went away.
Yes, you must be careful not to wipe too hard. Its okay to leave a little stickiness in some small areas if you need to. Better safe than sorry
Sounds easy. I'll try it. Alcohol didn't work well when I tried it. Ridiculous for cameras that cost over $1000, N90s and F100
Time takes its toll on these plastic parts
@@mr.cmr.c3855 True, but my old FE, FM2 etc, no issue, no rubber.
They fixed it on the d 100 no stick plastic. Or foam pad seals problem
I wonder what year they changed the material. This one was obviously a mistake.
So 50 or 70% isopropyl alcohol will work just as well.
I prefer the 70%
@@mr.cmr.c3855 Me too, except for cleaning screens.

Do you know if you can buy a replacement piece to this, for a f80
I'm only aware of some spare parts available on e-bay.
Maybe it’s better to remove the Film Door first?
You can but you have to be careful with the film plate and rollers. I prefer to leave it on.
Any advice o how to fix a broken top lcd

Donde comprar Porta Batería para nikonF90X
Eles estão disponíveis no ebay aqui nos estados, mas são caros. É melhor comprar um F90x usado ou você pode obter o cabo de bateria MB-10.
Amoniaco es mejor que alcohol.
Spray wd40 on a cloth rag and rub with your finger.
Please post a link showing WD40 to clean camera back.
