This is an amazing video!! Thank you for breaking down this concept and not breaking it into several different videos. Really enjoyed the sew along as well! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Sigh of relief! I'm so happy that you shared this! With all of the Simplicity patterns that I have, I can't believe I didn't realize that it showed you how to grade your pattern. I really needed this! Thank you so much!
Very insightful video. I opened up one of my unused Simplicity patterns and immediately found the instructions on how to custom fit the pattern to my body. I can't believe that (for years) I had stupidly been discarding those instructions as garbage.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I need to make sure things fit me well. Also, I've been chicken to cut off the excess pattern paper once I've chosen my size. I've been using tracing paper with varying success to transfer outlines, notches and other markings. You are teaching me so much, and I truly appreciate it. You are wonderful!
What a God sent. I have secretly asked God for directions oh how to make these patterns fit me. You just answered my questions .Thank you so much. Blessings to you.
This extra step will actually save me a lot of time. I usually cut the pattern for the largest part of my body and then adjust down when I sew. Of course I have to make that adjustment a few times to get the right fit. I will be doing it this way on my next sew. Thank you!
This is great!! Wish I had watched it BEFORE I made my first skirt this past weekend. I'll definitely be using this method. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you for the tutorial Bethany, it makes sense to me now as I think most of us are different sizes on our body areas anyway, and that is why when ever I make something like a top or dress they never fit me correctly so thank you! 😊💕
Thank you so much. This step is needed to have a garment that fits correctly and a lot of videos on sewing don’t show how to do it. I appreciate you taking time to demonstrate how it’s done. Next can you do swayback and full bust and small bust adjustment?
Thank thank you soooo much, I was actually laughing when I opened the pattern and saw the exact same diagram on the tissue paper. Really didn’t notice before thank you again
Great tutorial! Super easy to follow! I have been sewing for a few years now, and am still stumped on how to do a sway back adjustment, as well as a sba. Most tutorials out there are confusing!
Thank you! New to sewing so this was so educational, and so well done. I struggle with my short waist, never sure how to shorten tops and high waist pants that end up under my chest lol! Thanks Brittany I always love to watch your videos and am an instagram fan!
Thank you you did a excellent job helped me a lot I have not found to much on this topic as you read below what I mention is I have a size 16 dress pattern from the 70 and want to enlarge to a 20 I have no pattern for a 20 I get how to enlarge a pattern my confused on how would you do interfacings
You are a life saver, I am learning a lot from you concerning patterns, my daughter and I are also different sizes from bust to hip, thank you, thank you. My daughter has grown to copy my style and she is loving most of the patterns I love and if I merge and cut for one of us then I will not have a pattern for the other, is the another way I can do the merging besides tracing and transferring the lines for one and cutting for the other? Thank you once more you are a God sent....praise His Name, Hallelujah Ntsiki
Like you ....two years in to sewing and I finally learned how to do this adjustment. For pants I also have to lengthen the back crotch by 2 inches...so blessed back there..lol
Wonderful! I have attempted to do this but will get a jog in my line. I never thought to consider the waist on the way from the bust to hip measurement. It will also be easier that I now havve a hip curve ruler as I didn't before. Just to be sure, the ease is included if you go with the pattern size indicated for you body measurements, right? Also I have had issues with the shoulder being a little too big even when I use my bust measurement for the pattern size. Have you had this happen?
M Mnthali Hie Brittany thank you so much!!!!! i have been struggling for this chapter so long.Am just training sewing what ever i do for my body never fit properly,i hope this chapter will help me, i cant wait i will try this now.
Thankyou you answered my question you answered a prayer 😊si if you had a smaller pattern let’s say a 16 and you needed to enlarge to a top of your pattern would you also enlarge your facing I was watching Nancy’s notions she used the swivel and slide to enlarge or take away but didn’t mention facings for neck or armholes I like you method it’s easier but say you have a a16 pattern but want to enlarge to a size 20 you follow your principles would you do the same for facings i.. I know it’s getting into numbers. Thank you for showing me this
Hi good lesson. I am a bit reverse to your measurements. My Bust is 43: waist is 37 and my hips is 40 how would you do this. On some of my patterns I have to add inches to th bust then work my way down to my measurements. I guss the patterns come with the allowance for stitching and easement since I did not see you add it on. Please advise
Thanks this helps me so much. Can you do a video on how to adjust the back of a shirt or dress so it’s not baggy. My neck to waist measurement is at 15 and based in my bust measurement I would fall between a medium or large but the neck to waist is usually listed as 17. So I always end up with a baggy back on dresses and close fitting shirts.
Thank you SO much!! I have two questions. Why don't you trace your patterns on tracing paper! And can you show how to do adjustments on pants for slightly larger backsides? My pants end up higher in the front and a dropped crotch...everytime! Thanks again!
You're welcome! I don't have a reason for not tracing my patterns out, I just never do it. Unless I really want to keep the original in tack. But thats very rare! And it sounds like you may need to raise up your center seam in the back to get it to meet at the waistline. I'll begin working to get a video up for that soon! Thanks for watching!!
Hi Brittany - Thank you so much! This is really helpful.. Question - Sometimes sleeves are too tight. How do you fix that - how much extra should I add (especially with woven fabrics). Thanks for any help.
Do you ever have to do a fba (full butt adjustment)? I’m also In between sizes, but sometimes when I make bottoms , they tend to come a we bit short in the hips in the back. Btw great video. Thanks
Hi! No I don't have to do full bust adjustments. Sometimes I do have to raise up my back center seam to get the pants to come up to my waistline. I'll be doing a video on that soon!
This is an amazing video!! Thank you for breaking down this concept and not breaking it into several different videos. Really enjoyed the sew along as well! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This was very helpful for me. This part always intimidates me and keeps me from sewing. Thank you for the video
Great tutorial Brittany, this is how I do it as well. You are right this is definitely a key thing to know 😊
Thank you so much!
Simple......now I watched this tutorial.
Thank you Brittany 🌹

This makes so much sense......thank you Britt!
You always make videos that are easy to understand! I feel confident for my next sew. Thanks for sharing your gift with us!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching!!
Awesome! I am just starting to work with patterns and had no idea about merging. Thanks!

Awesome! Thats exactly what use to do before I began doing this adjustment! Happy Sewing!
Thank you so much for this video! Such a basic idea but I don’t know why I’ve never done it!
OMG this was a great tutorial! Very clear instructions. Thank you so much😀
This is great!! Wish I had watched it BEFORE I made my first skirt this past weekend. I'll definitely be using this method. Thanks so much for sharing.

Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Oh you make that look so easy. So thankful to see this. Very very helpful.....❤️
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the tutorial Bethany, it makes sense to me now as I think most of us are different sizes on our body areas anyway, and that is why when ever I make something like a top or dress they never fit me correctly so thank you! 😊💕
It's less complicated than I imagined it would be. Thank you very much!
Thank you Brittany.....loved actually see you make the changes on you pattern.

Great video, thanks sew much Brittany!!!
Thank you so much for this video. Do you have a video on exactly how to read a pattern? The little markings?
OMG this is awesome. Thank you so much. I used to have issues with my patterns being too large on the top.
Excellent tutorial. ❤
Thank you for this video. I am about the same measurements as you are and I was having a hard time with patterns. This was very helpful.
Awesome! I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank thank you soooo much, I was actually laughing when I opened the pattern and saw the exact same diagram on the tissue paper. Really didn’t notice before thank you again
Thank you Brittany! I just thought about how many of those instructions I threw away! LOL!
LOL! I threw away a ton before it caught my eye on day and I realized it was just what I needed!
Thank you! Very well explained. What if my measurements are not on the pattern?
Great tutorial! Super easy to follow! I have been sewing for a few years now, and am still stumped on how to do a sway back adjustment, as well as a sba. Most tutorials out there are confusing!

OMG! I never knew to do that😳. Thank you!
Awesome information. Question why don’t you use a upper bust measurement for your bust. Your jumpsuit is beautiful

Sounds like you may need a swayback adjustment or some fish eye darts. I'll begin working to get a video for the swayback up soon!

Thank you very much - very very helpful...
I need to get a curve ruler Thanks
awesome
My sewing teacher never taught me that we cut everything on the number im big busted what you did made so much sense
Which hip curve ruler do you use?
Hey! I use the Dritz 24" Hip Curve Ruler
Do you ever have to do a fba (full butt adjustment)? I’m also In between sizes, but sometimes when I make bottoms , they tend to come a we bit short in the hips in the back. Btw great video. Thanks

Brittany J Jones oh great! I’ll definitely will be looking forward to it. This will be so helpful
Thank you!!!
I guess you make sure you redraw the notches in the same if you are grading through them?
Yes you would!
