Why the FS7 is also among the XDCAM, series PXW?
Is "only" a very good prosumer, or is a digital motion picture camera in all respects?
If you had to choose, it is better the NEX-FS700R, or this PXW-FS7?

actually i think this camera might stick around for a while. it's like a long awaited replacement for the canon C300. i'd like to see some of the usual tests to see how it performs in real life. sure the industry is moving fast. so fast in fact that some cameras seem to be built in a rush. i mean the fs7 doesn't look solid to me. but in its segment it might cause some fuzz because it seems so bring the desired functionality in a -sort of- thought-through design.

Hmm, still looks a bit front heavy without the extra back. But heaps better than the fs100/700. Putting the screen on the back was the dumbest thing to do. I´m glad that with this one filming with a sony cam cheaper than the f3 won´t destroy my back (or rent loads of extra stuff to balance it out)

Is it more "Professional" than Sony Z100?

Sorry for late reply. For the function that FS7 offer, its more professional than Z100.

Looks like a great camera, but this makes me want to pay more for Arri/Canon products because they do NOT obsolete their customers in 6 months! GRRRR! Well, I have an NEW FS700r for sale as of today! $8,000 thrown down the toilet, thank you so much Sony! Great review, however, but it does not make me really want to buy Sony products. How long until this camera is replaced? 1 year?

So you'd rather that Sony not innovate, and improve and push the industry forward? Seems sorta selfish.
What it appears to me is that Sony has multiple development divisions that are isolated from one another.... so while one team is making the fs700 another is working on the fs7, taking different approaches.

Just the opposite, I would invite the innovation and I have participated in many closed room technology discussions and product think-tanks to help promote user demands to manufactures like Sony. However, removing entire shell exterior geometries, mounting positions, CODECS, battery mounts, does not allow for a "family of progression." 5 more years with an FS700? Not with my clients that actually nit pick the lack of quality in the outdated AVCHD CODEC with every video that gets edited in HD on the FS700R. You seriously think that recording 8 seconds of Slow Mo with an outdated AVCHD CODEC and the cumbersome work flow to do that is competitive with the new FS7 when you can record real time with more bit rate? I really can't see how a new FS700R has many advantages over FS7, unless, of course, the FS700 could receive some updates, like CODEC upgrades and removal of the time limit on the slow motion recording as well as "family" integrated attachments (batteries, mice, grips). I guessed I missed that announcement. lol Technically, I placed an early order on the FS7 because it really looks like a needed improvement over the FS700R and my customers are already asking about it, Yet, I'm struggling to see the need for an FS700r and an FS7. Unlike, ARRI, Canon, and to some extent RED ( which does have a buy back option with some dealers) I have experienced many challenges in selling used Sony systems when they bring on a new product line. Also, many of my clients invest heavily into a camera system ( more than 10 units) for the robotics and electronics we design. After getting several emails from customers asking when are we supporting the new FS7 and do they know anyone that is interested in used FS700's, I do NOT feel that I am only one wondering what is Sony's game plan for the FS700r? Evolution, or extinction? Even in the Sony promotion videos for the FS7 they state " borrowing and improving" from the FS700. Is there going to be an FS800 with the same body housings, mounts, length, hand controls and so on? Also, if this is not going to replace the FS700r then why name it so close to the FS700 (FS7 ish)? It sure is nice to design for the Canon C100, C300, and C500 knowing they keep it solid for several years and will grow it based on a user interface and customer demands, versus something entirely new and exciting.

Has your FS700 suddenly stopped working?

Shot my recent short on a FS700 with 1080 only....on my channel. Not a bad camera, but I am leaning towards selling mine to get a FS7!

Looks like a Chinese toy that will cost too much compared to other toys and will already be forgotten in a few months ... children using such toys are much more careful with what they play !

lol you definitely can make great films with an inexpensive camera, but there's a reason why this price tag is higher
