Interesting. For me, it was the other way round: I kept the Starlight and returned the DJ2Go2. While the browse knob is nice, most of the time I'm using my mouse anyway when scrolling through my Serato library, so I really don't need it all that much. The one big dealbreaker, to me, was the complete lack of any EQ knobs on the Numark. On the Starlight, they at least give you the option to choose between a bass EQ and a LP/HP filter, making smooth transitions possible without any distortion.

Starlight for me. Been using both to sort sets and as a back up. Numark Go packed up after 12 months andd has no EQ. Starlight has the EQ, filter and basic effects so can use in a pro situation as a back up and has lasted so far longer than the Numark.

I have both of them and I rather prefer the starlight for the filter/bass EQ knobs. Also I dislike to toggle through the pad-modes at the Numark while at the Hercules you can select them directly and for each deck seperately. So for me it is, Numark for prepping the tracks and for travel-fun and Hercules for emergency-backup.

Either of these would be really cool for practicing at home and for track prep! Might pick one up, actually. I think I'd probably want the Hercules for practicing at home because of the EQ/filter controls, but the Numark's browse feature is tempting too.

Luv the vids! I have the Numark and keep it in my laptop bag as a back-up just in case something happens to my controller when performing. Is also handy when doing music prep at home so that I don't have to drag out the entire controller/flight case.

Perfect timing. Looking to make a small rack to streamline my karaoke set up but wanted to keep a small controller of some sort inside of it as well. Agreed on using it for those pinch wedding situations, too.

@@AaronStrawn I'm thinking the Numark for the same reason as you, Browse and Load knob and button is just too convenient. Wish there was some EQ/filtering on it but I guess you can't have it ALL in such a compact package haha

Same here. My boss once threw a house party and asked me if I could DJ. I knew her house was tiny and her balcony just had a very small table, so I just took my laptop, a JBL Flip 4 and the Starlight controller with me. Even though the balcony was packed and we all had very limited space to dance and have fun, it was one of the nicest parties I ever DJ'd! 😉

Just got the Numark Dj2Go as well. It’s awesome for running smaller setups and has worked flawlessly so far. I would like to see them come out with a version that has the ability to backlight the whole top of the controller. It would be a huge plus. Did an event last weekend where the venue was so dark. Great Review 🍻

@@AaronStrawn thanks for the review. Had a Hercules DJControl Compact I sold a while back. Actually considering another since I like the bigger jog dials. I'd rather have bigger jogs than tempo controls on the decks. May keep my Reloop Buddy though for a portable until they add stems to these. Anyway, I'm a new subscriber and love what you do.

@@AaronStrawn when I'm at home, I have a full setup but just sometimes having my laptop and my starlight next to my main desktop I can download music, set cue points, practice blends to see which songs mix well, work on my crates, stuff like that without having to stand at a DJ rig for 2 -3 hours. I mean you can do that stuff without it but it kinda feels better having buttons and jog wheels to play with :)

I have a Mixtour and highly recommend it as long as you don't need jog dials. I use it exclusively with an iPad 9th gen and DJay. Here are my pros and cons and comparison with my Reloop Buddy and Beatpad 2:
      Positives of the Mixtour:
      1. Great sound quality despite only have RCAs - way better than my Reloop Buddy. I had a Beatpad 2 which had amazing sound quality but was club-ready with XLRs so that was expected but the Mixtour is pretty good.
      2. Keeps iPad fully charged while using - my Reloop Buddy does not (would probably go dead if I did anything longer than 4-5 hours but luckily that's rare for me)
      3. Layout is good
      4. Super portable - small and light but need to bring propriety iOS adapter and power supply
      5. It's pretty cheap - got mine used for $179 over a year ago and it's solid and I use it almost daily so durability is good but it is all plastic
      Negatives of the Mixtour:
      1. No decks - I like scratching more and more so it's getting used less and less now
      2. Uses proprietary iOS adapter (they're like $60 on eBay if you need a replacement since they don't make them anymore)
      3. Doesn't use USB power which is becoming the norm for small controllers but not a dealbreaker
      4. Fader isn't the best but gets the job done and the 3 faders and large enough and out of the way of other controls
      5. Only has 4 cue buttons - not a dealbreaker but like to have more than 4 cue points for some tracks and it will only see the first 4
      6. No iPhone/iPad mount like on the Buddy but when using the Mixtour, I like the iPad to the side of it anyway or it's awkward, at least for my mixing.

Where did my post go? Anyway I prefer the Hercules for the pitch faders (more accurate), bigger knobs and buttons, and the bass/filter knob. I use the bass and or filter a lot when mixing.
Also of note the Hercules is a 24 audio DAC the Numark is a 16 bit. There is a slightly noticeable sound quality difference.
I use DJay on my iPad, so the library scrolling is much faster with the touchscreen over the knob. I do like the Numark too, but I have FFS (fat finger syndrome) so I like the bigger controls on the Hercules.
Aaron if you want, I will send you my DJ2go2 touch, if you want to trade for the Starlight.
