Hey guys, sorry for the short delay on this one, had a bunch of IRL stuff to take care of this past week and this video was a longer one too, but, anyways, it's finally here! The video about the cut Flood forms is coming over the next few days too, so stay tuned and enjoy! :D
Before I watch this mini-series, are these information in the Forerunner trilogy by Greg Bear? I want to read it (I read Eons and I got my mind BLOWN, then I hear he's written the Forerunner trilogy for Halo... mind goes *h y p e r n o v a* ) and I don't want to be spoiled by stuff. Thanks for responding, I'd like to watch the video but I don't want spoilers.
Dude this....man I have set here at work all day watching your videos. I'm learning so much thanks to you. I thought I knew a lot about the halo universe but now you keep blowing it wide open with every video.
Good lord, imagine if the next few games were about a new war against the flood. Keyminds, various species and factions working together (with Cortana too), and combat against the flood in its late interstellar stage, nearing its intergalactic stage. I can imagine the end of the final game having The Master Chief fighting through an infestation on the ark, being telepathically abused by the flood using logical combat against him. He then fires the rings, including one near the Ark placed to get rid of the infestation. He dies, and the galaxy is repopulated by the species that have evacuated to a safe distance. The epilogue shows the repopulation of the galaxy, the unity between species, and a narration by Cortana, who concludes that the mantle of responsibility does not belong to a single group or species, but that it belongs to all living things. It then cuts to a memorial to John-117, the savior of the galaxy. Banners are flown around with his image. His armour is put on display. If the final game was completed on legendary, a scene plays where a family is looking around a museum dedicated to the Chief. They then look at a display that features a hologram of him without armour. His face is completely visible. Holy shit, the feels. THE FEELS.
Why didn't the Gravemind from Delta Halo control the flood from both Halp Wars and Halo CE? I was under the impression that they had unlimited communication range and speed.
@HiddenXperia i think its time for a more detailed and up to date video only just found you but i really like how you break it down without going off on a tangent deffo a new sub
5:16 i feel like the only reasonable way they can pass knowledge down between duch huge gaps if a little piece of them never dies and is there for the new Gravemind
Pyroskies that would be interesting especially with Nurgle and his followers. The Imperium can destroy an entire planet within an hour, however if the flood infected them...then the flood could as well.
Well, they can already out-eat the Nids (Nids take 50-100 days to consume an entire planet, the Flood do that shit for a weekend project), so there's that. I'm honestly not sure how well they'd do against the Orks or Necrons though.
A big question would be, if they can pierce through Space Marine armor? On one hand, it's probable as the Infection forms probably had to deal with forerunner armor (That may have been tougher then Spartan armor) and can only be stopped by shields. However, Space marine armor is shown to be much superior when compared to Spartan armor as they can tank hits from Bolter rounds (being rocket propelled grenades) for a short while, essenically being damn hard for Infection forms to pierce through. Tho I supposed that combat forms could break appart the armor, and considering the large population density of each planet, it'd be easy for the flood to over-run Astartes with just 1 planet completely infected.
Pyroskies unless the whole of 40k unites then the flood wipes it unless the chaos gods intervene. they, if they were already at a galatic stage, could farewell as a low tier faction in doctor who
What people forget is that there is only one Gravemind, and it is entirely immortal. It is the network intelligence of all Flood life. The things we see are simply projections of it, amalgamations of biomass that are large and complicated enough to sufficiently convey its true intelligence. What makes the Flood so terrifying is that the Gravemind exists beyond the physical universe through neural physics. It simply cannot be harmed, only temporarily banished.
If you combine all humans on Earth together into a sphere, you can only make it 900 meters across, and that's theoretical size the gravemind can get here.
I am somewhat surprised that when the "armored casket" fired upon the Flood forms in front of him the nearby Flood did not say, "the armored casket is angry!".
Their is a galaxy mind it’s in the senter of a black hole the hole is used to gather mass and make it grow It has control of the galaxy and it can rip it apart into other galaxys it can talk to every planet at once
I don't know if this has been answered, I've not been interested in the lore of the halo universe long, but when the forerunners were reseeding the universe after the halo array was fired, is there a reason as to why they didn't repopulate their own species as well?
Serious question: At the end of the Gravemind scene in Halo 2 Anniversary, He teleports the Arbiter and Master chief to their respective missions. How is it that the gravemind can teleport? Can the Gravemind teleport?
I don't think Cortana was hit with the Logic Plague. It's far more likely that she was just corrupted by the big computing power of the Forerunners' computer system, something that she wasn't designed to handle. A condition I like to call "Wheatley Syndrome"
Keep in mind that the things she spouts in Halo 5 are almost all things that the Gravemind or Didact had said, suggesting that she is under the influence of their "logic".
You should do a video on 343 adding flood to halo 5 like an update becuse if the unsc new the flood were on the arc they might do spartan training on how to fight the flood
i think that cortana being infected would be such good story arcing and it would make her sacrifice in halo 4 all the more tragic as it was likely her last sane, individual decision, she did wait 4 years and seven months after being tortured from the gravemind, and then she was revived from the domain now she is an infected immortal ai with control over the galaxy, it's pretty good writing(or fan theory lol) but i think she plans to release the flood as she believes the ai's will be unaffected by a flood outbreak, ultimately winning her war on sentient life forms. if that's true then halo 6 could be the best story in the series.
Would it be possible for a Gravemind to become so advanced and evolved that it takes on a new, evil task? That this Gravemind would take on the task of converting a Halo Ring into a Flood Ring? Repurposing this ring to, instead of wiping out all bio-organic life, convert all bio-organic life forms into the flood or infect them.
I don't get why the gravemind from halo 2 keeps one of the prophets alive when it talks to master chief and the arbiter instead of absorbing it into biomass. I also would like to know what the prophets thought of the flood and how to combat it.
@@britbrittingson3129 Yeah. It mainly uses its Precursor abilities to speak telepathically. But I guess it preferred to speak to this human and sangheili directly. That's how it spoke to Chief in Halo 3, telepathy
It's recently been confirmed that the Gravemind doesn't have an actual head. What we see in Halo 2 was a tentacle altered and reformed into a mouth to address his captives directly. After he sent them away, he returned it to normal. Being a Precursor, the Gravemind still retains the ability to alter his appearance and, of course, speak telepathically.
Well that makes sense of why it has a snake like appearance it was actually a tentacle but I’m guessing it’s body is just a pile of flesh if I had to assume
TheLaughingGun Nope I would love to converse with it to. Wouldn't mind being an agent for it either in echange for said knowledge. The next logical step in the mantle is a comunion of linked flesh and mind across the galaxy.

@@neger7717 Their early albums are classic dude. And why say mainstream? I can guarantee I know many great obscure bands and artists you have no idea exist.
Yes, the Logic Plague for Cortana is the only way to salvage the story. The best way would be if it isn't entirely Cortana, but merely a leftover fragment of her that allows the other logic-plague-infested AI (possibly composed Didact or Warden Eternal?) to wear her face and ape her personality. That would be the best direction because it would change the story from a Skynet-style conversion to a more infection-like abomination that is more tormenting to Chief. It would give him a motive to fight and destroy the monster, for really personal reasons. Especially if he was forced to watch her undergo a virtual flood-style infection, and be assimilated with other AI into a virtual proto-gravemind (mirroring Captain Keyes' fate). This would be so shocking and sickening, and would make the villain of Halo 6 as evil and despicable as possible.
This is an absolutely brilliant idea. Especially with all the AIs joining that "Created" alliance of hers, I can see that whole "Gravemind-AI" being a thing.
I think amalgamation is more disgusting. To see her become a puppet isn't nearly as awful to watch as seeing her consumed and assimilated into an AI-gravemind. For the finale, the villain needs to be as evil as possible, so that Chief enters the final battle battle with the mindset of 'I will never see my friend again, but that no longer matters. All that matters now is that you will be dead!' Cortana's death in Halo 4 was well-done, and it shouldn't be spoiled by resurrecting her in any way. Her character in Halo 6 should be a cannibalized fragment infested with the flood. That way, we keep the sadness from Halo 4, and feel no hesitation to kill her (again?) in Halo 6.
So the gaining of intelligence from the host bodies into a Prototype Gravemind is why Chief smashed Keye's head in Halo CE when we was encased in a Prototype Gravemind.... to keep Earth a secret from the Flood?
It's because keyes had a specific code chip within his head they needed to self destruct the Pillar of Autumn. If you read the book "the flood" i believe it talks about how chief had to root around his brain to find the chip.
Lol it would have gotten the location of Earth from all the other humans it consumed. That was just because he needed to get the specific code chip within his head to self destruct the Pillar of autumn like Adeptus Tacticus said anyways 2 years too late maybe lol. He would have just thrown a grenade or shot Keyes I sure know I tried a grenade after I got the code.
When I heard that quote, I immediately thought that before that scene, the Gravemind had collected and absorbed every single Grunt, Jackal and Elite Chief had killed since arriving on installation 05. Then it showed Regret in it's tentacle, which I feel is proof of that theory.
@@nitzel9909 "This one is machine and nerve, and has its mind concluded." Also Gravemind: "I AM GOING TO SAY MEAN AND ERRATIC SHIT TO THIS ONE IN HOPE IT WILL NOT BLOW ME UP"
The way the Gravemind speaks is literally my favorite thing about him. "Child of my enemy, why have you come? A father's sins... passed down to his son." I noticed something... In the Cortana and Gravemind moments in Halo 3, there are a few biblical references. Fascinating. Edit: I'm more obsessed with the voice two years later. It's so powerful and yet soothing... Dee Bradley Baker is incredible
Well the story of the humans and forerunners shares some similarities with the story of Cain and Abel. The Precursors(God) favored Abel (humans) over Cain(Forerunners), and thus Cain turned against God, and his brother.
Any epic story of good vs evil will have elements of that. And you can definitely tell that the Gravemind and the flood entity is a downright ugly personification of wickedness. Tbh I have a hard time with Halo because of this.
It's loosely implied that Christianity in the halo universe was derived from what little knowledge of the forerunners and the flood humanity retained after the human-forerunner war.
Can't wait for 343 to fucking ruin that dialogue like they rendered Arbiter's dialogue awkward and cringey. "SPARTAN LOCKE WHY HAVE YOU COME, TO DO THIS THING WHICH YOU ARE SET TO DO RAAAAAAAAAAAWR."
0:00-0:14 I have to admit the Gravemind is one of Dee Bradley Baker's best performances He truly makes it a palpable threat with its eerie poetic speech and disregard for others that is not the Flood that thing is scary.
It had captured the rings Monitor, it may have used it to teleport flood and other things round...it would explain how he got his ass in the "in amber clad"
PLEASE keep making these! The Flood are a big part of what made Halo what it is(was), and though their removal from the story was necessary to bring the original trilogy to a close, neglecting to reintroduce them for so many games straight was a BIG mistake gameplay-wise IMO. Halo games without the flood in there somewhere just don't feel like Halo at all. Let's not even get started on armor enhancements.
The_Argus_ Plexus Keep in mind 343 needed to find a way to bring back the flood so the characters wouldn't look retarded. Their coming back in halo wars 2 in the fall
Elijah Watson Well yeah you dont want them to just retcon the ending of Halo 3. But clearly there is more flood in the galaxy still, and im soooo stoked for it :D
gamers in general are self entailed thrash.. when companies alter their own original story to appease the fans... it ruins the point of an original story true its own originality... personally i want to hear someones own story rather then impose my own variation to theirs.. cause it makes it makes it my story then and not theirs.. xb in this regard books > then movies and game stories.. books are finished before release... the readers have no say so in anything and have to enjoy what is given to them.. games are different they are prone to shift according to the personal desires of gamers.. i fucking hate that..xb example: fans cried about the double perspective of halo 2 where u played both the chief and the arbitor... people were too cheif centrist the dev's didnt continue this in halo 3.. thus we got no more first hand experience of what it was like to be a "covenant" id assume people cried about the flood too so that could be a reason why the flood played less of a role then what they possible could have... butt we'll never know...

All that matters now is that you will be dead!'
Cortana's death in Halo 4 was well-done, and it shouldn't be spoiled by resurrecting her in any way.
Max France Okay thanks
Max France Chief also did that to respect Keys, he wouldn't want him to suffer any longer.
It's because keyes had a specific code chip within his head they needed to self destruct the Pillar of Autumn. If you read the book "the flood" i believe it talks about how chief had to root around his brain to find the chip.
Adeptus Tacticus how much do those novels go for?$
Lol it would have gotten the location of Earth from all the other humans it consumed. That was just because he needed to get the specific code chip within his head to self destruct the Pillar of autumn like Adeptus Tacticus said anyways 2 years too late maybe lol. He would have just thrown a grenade or shot Keyes I sure know I tried a grenade after I got the code.
I am the monument to all your sins.
When I heard that quote, I immediately thought that before that scene, the Gravemind had collected and absorbed every single Grunt, Jackal and Elite Chief had killed since arriving on installation 05. Then it showed Regret in it's tentacle, which I feel is proof of that theory.
Shawn the Prawn that's actually a pretty cool idea
this one is machine and nerve, and has its mind concluded. this one is but flesh and faith, and is the more deluded
I am a monument to all your chins.
@@nitzel9909 "This one is machine and nerve, and has its mind concluded."
Also Gravemind: "I AM GOING TO SAY MEAN AND ERRATIC SHIT TO THIS ONE IN HOPE IT WILL NOT BLOW ME UP"
Gravemind is my city
NakedCucumber high charity is my country
UNSC Infinity is my world
The library is my school's library
Dead meme
True
The way the Gravemind speaks is literally my favorite thing about him.
"Child of my enemy, why have you come? A father's sins... passed down to his son."
I noticed something... In the Cortana and Gravemind moments in Halo 3, there are a few biblical references. Fascinating.
Edit: I'm more obsessed with the voice two years later. It's so powerful and yet soothing... Dee Bradley Baker is incredible
And all of them blasphemous.
Did anyone shit their pants after they realized what the human flood form was carrying at 6:06 ?
No
oh ya, for sure
PIT HAD THAT FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER
Was almost bad when it fired it at the last second
Yep
0:00-0:14 I have to admit the Gravemind is one of Dee Bradley Baker's best performances He truly makes it a palpable threat with its eerie poetic speech and disregard for others that is not the Flood that thing is scary.
Well you have enlightened me my friend. I did not know this until today.
Imagine if there was a side game where you played as a flood of your choice and had to do missions assigned to you by the gravemind.
Didn't cover how the gravemind was able to teleport chief and the arbiter in halo 2
CardzGamez neurophysics
It had captured the rings Monitor, it may have used it to teleport flood and other things round...it would explain how he got his ass in the "in amber clad"
Capturing 2401 Penitent Tangent covers this and 'porting into the frigate.
But clearly there is more flood in the galaxy still, and im soooo stoked for it :D
gamers in general are self entailed thrash.. when companies alter their own original story to appease the fans... it ruins the point of an original story true its own originality... personally i want to hear someones own story rather then impose my own variation to theirs.. cause it makes it makes it my story then and not theirs.. xb
in this regard books > then movies and game stories.. books are finished before release... the readers have no say so in anything and have to enjoy what is given to them.. games are different they are prone to shift according to the personal desires of gamers.. i fucking hate that..xb
example: fans cried about the double perspective of halo 2 where u played both the chief and the arbitor... people were too cheif centrist the dev's didnt continue this in halo 3.. thus we got no more first hand experience of what it was like to be a "covenant"
id assume people cried about the flood too so that could be a reason why the flood played less of a role then what they possible could have... butt we'll never know...
I feel like you can have a line of halo games without the flood just replace them with different enemies like actual fun to fight Promethians.
