Jagged Little Pill in it's entirety is amazing! She really shows off her pipes in the hidden track!
One of the best albums EVER I'm 44 and remember it will 🥰
That hidden track is my favorite song of hers ever! So emotional 😢
Was is this song that she belts that one Kong belt out or is the other song I can’t remember the name of it on the cd ? But I remember a particular song like this one always captivated me
That voice is just amazing.
This was such a POWERFUL performance, it gives me chills.
That rise and fall and almost like she runs out of breath but then picks it right back up
Her voice is quite unique. GOO GOO Dolls "Iris" is another great song from City of Angels
Her cadence is so beautiful
I would call what she does a "vocal flip". When you change between registers your voice can break a little and she flips between registers at the end of phrases etc
Yeah it's like a fry into a cry into an upside down gliss. Flip is a good word.
I saw her sing this live at SLC Olympics. Was incredible!!!!!!! FANTASTIC!
I was stunned by this song in the movie "City of Angels." Raw, powerful, passion.
WHOA! That was psychedelic! Definitely got some Led Zeppelin quality to it. Cool!
yes it reminds me "page plant" mtv unplugged 1994
Love the melody and lyrics of this one. She's so great! Now I realize why it was used in the movie City Of Angels!! ❤😳😃
This live performance is amazing. I use this to teach euphony. vs. cacophony in my poetry unit. The dischordant music reflects her discomfort.
I saw her like 10 years ago at The Westbury Theater. It was a small venue. I was 10 feet away from her. It was an acoustic set. Her and two acoustic players. She was amazing. My jaw was dropped the whole time watching her.
My fav song of her ever
One of the best performances from her singing this song. This is my favourite live version of Uninvited.
Glad you liked this song! It’s also noteworthy that this was Alanis’ first song after her trip to India, where she immersed herself in Eastern culture. That’s why this song, and a solid handful of others later in her career, have a distinct Indian and Middle Eastern vibe in the arrangement and melody.
I thought her song "thank you" was.
@@Ianisatool Was what?
Best rock album of my high school years!
Her beautiful voice just makes this more sincere and cemented.
You want more Alanis? “You outta know” and “Ironic.” I just hope it’s in my lifetime- LOL 😉. ❤️💛💟☮️👍
"Let's do it, let's fall in love" that's a fun song
YESSSS!!!! The entire album jagged little pill is great!!
Have you reacted to" You Oughta Know "or " Ironic" yet ? Actually listen to the whole album it's considered one of the greatest !!
Damn. The arrangement was fantastic,, made her singing more emphatic
❤️Alanis! My favorite by her is probably Mary Jane. Second favorite is Hands Clean. But her first album, Jagged Little Pill is definitely part of my teenage years soundtrack lol
Jagged Little Pill was 25 years old this month, which makes me feel very, very old.
I think Uninvited was played during the end credits out City of Angels
Sure !
Yes
Alanis "Forgive me Love" must listen. No music except her voice.
"Your House" :)
Leanne Rimmes does an amazing cover of this. She throws yodels into her inflections. So proud to call her a fellow Canadian. Also this brings tears to my eyes each time. Bless you today sir.
My grandmother is Irish and she calls this vocal flip a "lilt". It's common in Celtic music but a lot of Canadian artists sing this way too.It is similar to a yodel without the repetition.
Alanis gave us so much in the 90's. Her "Jagged Little Pill" CD has always been one of my favorites. And this movie was really good (with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan) and also love this song. : )
Her Album "Jagged Little Pill" is a play through for sure. As for "Uninvited" this is one of those songs that satisfies every corner of the musical appetite. This is one of my favorite songs by any artist, a song that is a masterpiece, that you don't want to end but also one im appreciative of fully!! Her voice killed the song over the keys but also over the drums, orchestra and strings of the electric guitar. I once heard her speak of seeing an early screening of the movie "City of Angels" (for which the song was placed on the soundtrack) she said the movie was so inspirational that she left the theater an went straight to the studio writing the song in 10 minutes, not only drawing inspiration from Meg Ryan's character but also from her own life experiences.
Love Alannis. What a unique singer & performer. This is one of my absolute faves of hers. To sing, or when Im pissed at someone, ill simply send them this song. Ur not invited to my life anymore. Harsh, but real. 🤘🖤😊
She sounds just as great live today as she did back than and her album Jagged Little Pill is just killer all the way through! Gotta do her song Ironic!
Alanis plays God in the movie Dogma. ( Ben Afflick, Matt Damon, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, George Carlin and Salma Hayek are also in it, along with Jay and Silent Bob).
My favorite song of hers❤
Masterpiece of 90's
Deep, poetic from a very young woman at the time she wrote this...
Alanís Morissette is an amazing lyricist, very insightful. Songs like A man, Baba, Still, Forgiven, Eight easy steps, and One are pure musical gems. Amazing!
I just watched the Jagged Little Pill musical video featuring this song. In the musical it is about the main character overdosing, her spirit leaves her body, and character is telling her spirit that she is Uninvited, it’s not her time. Look for it, that’s how I understood it. You may see it completely differently, but that is the beauty of art. Also her song Rest sent shivers down my spine. I have such respect for Alanis, she uses her fame as a platform to help bridge the gap between cultures, and too much more good works to mention here. You will also love her songs, Lens, Citizen of the Planet, that I would be good, and Smiling. Take a deep dive into this woman’s work. You will not regret it. Her b sides are some of her best work
Camera work..... Full orchestra...... VERY POWERFUL..... Goosebumps!
90's beautiful moments in the music🥺🥺🥺
The only person who understands the deepest meanings of the song. In the time of Noah...🙏🏾
Alanis just has the voice to draw you in. I bought her first c.d. on my 13th bday and it started a musical Rollercoaster of emotions from irony to a whole new breed of awareness in a teen girl. Lol. Maybe not a good role model in the beginning of her career😬 but the music was awesome. ❤ Love the reaction and hearing this again,Ty.
Her voice is primarily chest voice, that little high note is in her head voice. If she were a man that voice would be called falsetto. She noticeably flips up causing a break in her voice other times she softens her chest voice or full voice and then moves into head voice with no noticeable break. This last way of singing (soften full voice move into head voice) was used very successfully by Michael Jackson. Also flipping between chest and head voices to accentuate the break is called yodeling. Also I love her voice too.
Very unique artist, been in love with her for a long time
I absolutely love this song.
Agree with you Ty since I haven't heard this lady sing. Strong voice.
What a performance.
Alanis was a large part of my angsty teen years!!! Still adore her music today!!!
Hauntingly beautiful ❤
Alanis is French-Canadian, which may account for the way she sings and speaks.
No shes not. She's simply Canadian.
I first a song by Alanis Morrissette I heard was from the movie Chronicals of Narnia. The song is called Wunderkind. I was hooked. Go to "Wunderkind song Narnia Alanis Morrissette with Lyrics" on UA-cam. Some would say her voice is airy...head voice. Her voice is unique and beautiful. Every song has its own message and each message has a great meaning behind it. I was very impressed with everything about her. Hope you look up the above song as well.
One of my favorites.
My favorite of hers and I love most of them.
I love the way she sings the words , an unfortunate slight.❤
Dude! Am I glad to have stumbled upon your channel. I mean this is one of my fave Alanis songs. And then u came thru w/ the gospel!!! Ok I’m already in your corner. Subscribed & sharing.
Sweet! Thanks dont forget to hit the bell notification. Hop in when I go live as well
I had the biggest crush on her back in high school. I used to tell me wife she would be my hall pass if she ever came knocking on my door.
Love Alanis and every single song of hers I've ever heard. I'm excited to find out there are a few I haven't heard yet.
Beautiful song
She's flippin awesome 😊 love your take on it 😊
Well, she DID play God in a movie!:)
Yep. It's was in Dogma
Holy cow I had forgotten about this song!!
It’s her falsetto that I believe ur loving like me!! You rock by the way! I love everything you talk about and my feelings are the same as yours on almost every single thing!
I love your breakdown of this!!! Please take a listen to some more Alanis “All I Really Want”
Three years late but that vocal technique Alanis uses sounds like Irish "keening" which often invokes regret or grief
Jagged Little Pill was the album that was prescient of a hugely important period for Canadian female musicians. Jagged was the biggest selling female rock album worldwide for a really long time and one of the best selling of all time. Follow that up with Shania Twain's ascension shortly after. Largest selling female country artist of all time to this day. Then, the freight train of a contemporary artist, propelled by earlier success but hoisted to near mythical status when she sang for the movie Titanic, Celine Dion continues to be one of the biggest artists on the planet. Way to go!
‘Flinch’ MUST. COVER. HER. SONG. ‘Flinch’ lyrical and musical genius period
Bowing down....the angst, the feeling.....the power of song.
This performance. Just damn! Fucking godly
Really it is a song about people not shortchanging themselves in the name of love.
When that little arm gets going you know it’s on.
There is a hidden track at the end of this album that she does acapella...it is awesome!!!!!!
I could had sworn you had done this one. I was gonna request but i LOVE the song.
So proud of you got her last name right lol,,,,,,,,,Thank you for sharing
Alanis killed it! \m/
Yay! I had hoped you would do this song! The way she enunciates her words are so unusual that for me I needed to learn the words and sing along. I agree it’s biblical.
Amazing
This song gives me goosebumps *every* time. So powerful.
I am surprised you know so much about the Nephalim as the Book Of Enoch was removed from the bible about 400AD and just that disjointed line about the Daughters Of Men remains. Good for you for reading around your subject.
Great song
wow!!!! I was a 90s teenager. Thanku
On the sounds of the Nickolas Cage movie City Of Angels.
Just found out - it says her style is emotive mezzo-soprano
When singers could sing on their own...
If you have not yet, I think you would enjoy Alanis Morissette's "Still" - go with the lyric video - it's deep.
As much as you liked this you might really enjoy Your House (a hidden track on JLP) also by her. It's a capella so you really get to just sit back and enjoy her voice.
I actually wanted more of the bible lesson from you. For real. Thank you for that.
Yes more Alanis
That is just Alanis @Ty....she has a unique sound.
Narcissis by her will blow your mind!
Luv the t-shirt.
City of Angels always makes me cry lol
You might like Natalie merchant. "This house is on fire."
Makes me feel like I'm high on hash and then takes a hit of acid then I slide in a line. Then I finish with a touch of morphine. A calm dark rage.
Just watched a vocal coach react to Alanis... They said it was a yodel too. That little Michael Jackson thing she does at the end.
Alanis Morissette - That i would be good
The Bible stuff is super interesting to me too. Thank you for sharing. Alanis is an amazing artist!! Blame Canada 😉😂🥰
i learned to speak english from her!
She wrote that song about a grown man who pursued a sexual relationship with her when she was a girl. She evidently loved him too. I think he took her virginity if I remember correctly. She performed it for "City Of Angels" movie. A great fit lyrically for the movie. Blows my mind that they only used it for ending titles.
Well she basically mentioned the bible with the shepherd part . You should hear right in two by tool if you havent yet
Yep. I thought about this part of the Bible too when i learned about the plot of the movie.
90's Goddess💜
I love Hands Clean
I call that "thing" she does with her voice a "hitch".
