  • If you have trouble managing reflections for your food photography, understanding the basics of how reflections work is a great place to start. In this video, I take a look at Reflection Light, which is a type of natural light that we would typically see in everyday life. I then take the lessons I learned from observing this type of light and apply it to my food subjects in the studio. Hope you find it helpful!

    WOW!! I learned so much from just this one video! Whenever I take my food shots, I’m constantly trying a million different angles and finagling with the lights. Now it makes sense why some shots look more appealing than others! You explain things in such an easy to follow way. Thank you so much!

    Hey Brandon, I like how you analyze and explain lighting. This video helped me to better understand more in depth how lighting a certain way can help retain more detail. If I understand you correctly, you have to consider the surface of your subject to determine if direct or diffused reflection would work best.

    With that doughnut, don't you think apart from the difference in reflections you showed, the angle made a major change(also).

    • @figandlight
      @figandlight  3 роки тому

      Reflection and angle (with respect to light source) are dependent on each other, so I would say yes, the angle makes a huge difference.

    Indirectly, can I say, midtones (which always shows us color) exhibit diffused reflections all the time?

    • @patrickbarrios6284
      @patrickbarrios6284 3 роки тому +1

      Really depends though. There are a lot of factors that may affect midtones (shadows, light source location, surface, etc.). It may sometimes be coming off as diffused light reflection but not all the time. Happy to be corrected if I missed out anything. 😁

    • @figandlight
      @figandlight  3 роки тому +2

      Same. That's a good question. Right now, I would say that midtones exhibit diffused reflections all the time but, like Patrick, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

    Essentially lighting that produces silhouettes doesn't preserve color
