"To remember" is a reflexive verb in German: "Ich erinnere MICH."

There is also a very formal version like “Ich erinnere mich dieses Mannes” But in German, there is a trend to avoid the usage of the genitive case. That’s why several verbs with a genitive case have been turned into accusative or dative cases.

I first learn erinner using Pimsleur so had no idea how it was spelled. I hought it was "er inner mich" and so I thought it was some crazy construct like "me gusta" in Spanish.

Why did we have ‘daran’ in between, in the solutions you provided?
Daran is one of the Da- words. Check out Anja's videos on these. Together with the preposition 'an' (= on/near) I think it means "on or near it" but the context (the rest of the given sentence) would confirm that. I'm going back another cpl of times just to be sure I got the msg correctly and to bed it down.
