I think what most people didn’t understand originally (because his essay was 40 pages of yammering) is that DarkViperAU isn’t concerned with “fair use” at all. He thinks that anyone who reacts to an entire video of his is technically “stealing his content”. He has zero respect for all reactions no matter how good or bad. To him there’s no difference between someone like Jinx (the guy who used to literally just watch) and someone like Papa Gut who does a lot of commentary. Which I personally think is kind of ridiculous because reactions are a huge part of the online content machine. 😊So I’m glad you explained it all properly in your video.
Sometimes I’ll see a video by somebody and not watch because I’m hoping papa poop is gonna watch it. I like he’s type of reaction videos. People who add basically nothing are the problem. Love you Willy Billy kisses
Dorkvaper is the biggest cringelord on YT. That fact that he's a successful creator makes me wanna end it all.
In brief I think he has a point about someone like XQC or Hasan basically stealing content while others are more transformative.
I think the big problem for dark viper is that he is so autistic and monomaniacal in his focus and extreme in his responses that he becomes deeply unlikable and irritating making people disregard his point out of hand.
I wish youtube would bring back the old response video linking feature they had and repurpose it for reaction videos. They could also use that feature to do some sort of revenue split between the original video creator and the reactor.
They apparently removed it because bimbos would reply to the video and add nothing but their boobies.
I reckon these days though, they don't want to further enable commentary channels.
I think DarkViper is right about some things. The reaction videos that XqC and Hasan do are lazy and don't add anything to the original video. I think Viper should focus on those type of people instead of people like Destiny or Cr1TiKaL who actually add to the original video. Almost everyone agrees that Hasan and Xqc react videos are bad but when you go after Destiny or Cr1TiKaL it seems weird because they almost always transform the content and add to it. I think going after lazy reactors rather then all reactors is the best move. It also doesn't help that Viper has been involved in very odd drama in the past and seems to be a lonely person. Having friends in the real world is very important so you don't become terminally online and freak over small internet issues. He should also stop making hyperbolic comparisons because it doesn't seem to help the conversation.
the problem is Viper seems to only care about himself. He may reference smaller channels, but they are just a tool to get him what he wants. He has no people skills and has no interest in working on himself it seems. He made an online echo chamber where he is THE authority, and can't understand why it doesn't work anywhere else. He might have a good point here or there, but his own actions and words, when combined without self reflection will never let him get a win. at least that's my opinion.
It doesn't matter if you are the best reactor in the world if you don't heavily edit your video you're still stealing someone's content people like asmongold is dangerous because he's seen as"one of the good ones" so reactors can get away with stealing people's content. Either heavily edit it or just don't upload it in youtube at all.

LOL! yeah. to be fair i think he is someone who would go out of his way to avoid any real life interactions. he gave up on dating in his early 30's and i just see him as someone who wanted an anime girl to worship him and doesn't understand why that didn't happen.

i personally would never watch by myself the things u react to because i’m here for your personality. Yeah i need to be interested in the topic you are talking about but that doesn’t mean i would ever watch it by myself because i don’t find them entertaining, even if i’m interested. Something can be interesting but the way that is presented being boring. On the other hand, if i casually stumble across something that i find interesting and notice that is from someone that i’ve already seen from one of your reactions, im much more likely to give it a chance, and it happened before. In my case at least, u are taking away nothing from others because i would never have watched that thing in the first place, and u are adding that chance that i’ll see something form their channel if something look interesting

also, your a rare case. not many people are like you so your personal experience wont speak for the majority. Just because you like it doesnt justify it. Your enjoyment isnt more valuable than a content creators income. Theres takes in this video i agree with, more specifically the ones directed towards darkviper as a person, but on the arguemnt of reacto content, he has nothing of value. The only reason he believes react content is okay is because thats his income. He cant admit hes stealing other creators hours of work so he can eat too.
I know this is old now but something I don’t see mentioned is that when the reaction channel I watch mentions a creator often the algorithm will start recommending other videos by that creator to me in my recommendations feed. They aren’t the same videos that the person watched but the algorithm does pick it up and sometimes I subscribe because I’m more familiar with their content due to the reaction channel.
I havent liked him in years. This is one of those situations where I can do the gloating and say "it took yall too long to notice" BS, its cathartic to see that hes getting slapped
I found you through you talking about H3. I'll watch the whole podcast, and if something big happens, ill watch how other [people reacted to the same thing. A lot of the time hearing from an outsider is good, it helps keep you from forming internet bubbles. I dont hate anyone online cause thats cringe, but I always kept Abba and Preach and Fresh and Fit in the same category, but since watching you, my opinion of Abba and Preach has softened. Conversation is important, and as long as you're commentating and critiquing, no money is being stolen
I thought your suggestion that react content is becoming a partial replacement for the socialization problems created by the internet had some merit.
But when you started on your "that's just the way it is" arguement, you lost me completely. I could easily argue that, of course, people will often find your resct content more interesting than many original creations. You specifically select for content that is already interesting. Even if your reaction was minimal, the original work could still carry a ton of creative heavy lifting for you. When you do this over and over, your channel becomes a greatest hits hot spot, at least on certain relevant topics. So why would people even bother to search elsewhere for this type of content when they know you'll have almost all of it for them in one place? And even on the off chance that one of your reactions doesn't pop, oh well, onto the next thing. It only took you about an hour to bang it out anyway, often 1/50th of the time it took for the original creator (in some cases even longer).
It sounds like the same kind of argument anyone who profits on exploitation would use: "Oh well, sorry, that's just how it is. What do you expect me to do? Stop reacting? Sorry, never gonna happen. Benefits me too much. Maybe you're just butthurt that I'm simply a better youtuber than you."
I would suspect that if asked to stop doing this style of react content, and instead watch videos before hand, edit out relevant segments, write a script, and respond that way, you couldn't. Once you've made your bag through exploitation, it's almost impossible to stop.
I use react streamers as a secondary algorithm. Almost all of the content creators that I watch on UA-cam were discovered through react streamers reacting to some of that persons content.
I also frequently watch a video that I like and then see if streamers reacted to it to see how they liked it and what the audience reacts like.
React streamers let you be a part of a community enjoying a piece of content together and let you feel like you can engage with it on a level beyond just basic consumption.
Darkviper acts entitled to other’s opinion, acting as if he has the authority to control how other people think. He’s always so highly blinded by his emotions that he’s unaware how much damage his actions have created. It’s like he’s unaware of the skills/lack of skills he has. This blindness mixed with his entitlement fuels his victim mentality the strongest. It’s as if he still hasn’t learned that the more he tries to hold onto things, like sand in the palm of your hands, those things will slip from between his fingers. It’s kinda sad honestly

#2 Jacksfilms situation is COMPLETELY different than Darkvipers, because he’s gone after the egregious earlier reactors who where literally not reacting at all (Ex. Jinx) who don’t have platforms anymore. And even tho Darkviper get’s some people right like hasan, other react content he takes way to far with no just claims to back up, besides his own personal feelings for the content.
# 3 Darkviper is the worst aurbitor of this movement with his lack of tact & skill of getting the message across. Jacksfilms on the other hand is waaaay more successful at getting his point across and is more respected in the content creator space
If anything, Papa talks way too much during reacts. For example, when he's making a point that I, as a 38 year old understand, and he starts explaining by giving examples, I skip forward a little. I mean, he turned a 40 min video into a 2 hour reaction.
If he uploaded a 6 hour commentary where he watched the entire Avenger's Endgame movie and was talking the whole time, it wouldn't be ok.

Not true per se. The law is not clear on whether or not using 100% of someone's content is fair use or not, BECAUSE IT IS NOT BLACK AND WHITE. It's basically just up to the judge or jury.

The reactors I watch typically point me in the direction of new content creators I wouldn’t have found on my own.
I wouldn’t ever go rewatch the video after the reaction, but I absolutely will go and see if I like the OP’s other content.
usually I am watching all kinds of stuff on youtube so I am usually more likely to re watch a video with a react streamer that I have already seen just to hear their take on it

I watch certain streamers cause they’re funny and offer a new perspective. Plus the content isn’t super heavy. They’re chill videos I can play in the bg while I work or do other things.
In DVAU's view, you could still do that. They would just have to make more original content, or do proper video responses with editing and scripting. Not the "first time viewing" reacts that you currently see so much of.

I have actually found more people to watch through reactions. I think that a video is cool and I look the person up. Or I see the original video and then I go watch someones reaction (like this one!)
Viper comes off like an unhinged terminally online redditor, but many of his arguments about react content are internally consistent.
He covered virtually every base when addressing his distaste for the react meta. He may not be wrong when saying that youtube would be a better, more healthy platform without reactors. But as it stands, until some fundamental youtube rule or legal change occurs, it's too tempting to make it. It's easy, low effort content that pulls in viewership by the boat load.

i literally could not care less about people like boogie or fresh and fit, but i have watched at least 20 hours of papa gut reacting to them in the past week. i also don't really watch any streamers so i always look forward to these vods. i like this content bc i like what the reaction commentary adds! also half the time i'll watch both papa gut AND turkey tom react to the same content that idgaf about just because i like them as creators!

I think his takes on react content is fine. To compare it to grapes is crazy tho that’s what lost me mainly. He could have used like an example of patients or inventions like some people have spent thousands of hours building a business or product and then you have dropshippers who then take that product stick it on a website like temu and make easy gains. I’ve heard papa gut make fun of droppshippers a lot and to me that’s react content is the dropshiping. Then again think about like a sponge I think papa gut is the scrub daddy. he took the sponge and improved it and that’s I don’t have a problem with. I hope that made sense
I think this guy has just spent too much time online on his own. He spents countless days playing one game to a niche audience and didnt go out because of it. Just needs to get offline for a few months

I mean, the entire crying out about reaction channels is kinda stupid (I would've used harsher wording, but YT is looking)... the percentage of the videos I watch through reaction channels that I would normally watch otherwise is so low, it's literally almost not there... I'm not watching this video for willy mac or darkviper, I'm watching it for papa G. I frankly don't care about the video context other than the commentary and subsequent humour that is offered through it.
It does happen that sometimes, I'll go watch the original video instead, like I went to watch SPACE KING seperately from nuxanors reaction to it because I thought it was a really funny video and I wanted it without the pauses/commentary... But I'm not a willy mac fan (not to say I think he's doing bad content, he's just doing content that isn't for my demographic naturally speaking) so if papa gut hadn't done this livestream/video, then I would've just lived on without knowing this video even existed. It's literally a non-factor. It's not subtracting anything. If anything, I know a content creator I like supports another content creator - and if that's seen as anything negative or positive, it only really gives me reason to consider willy mac in the future. Even if I've already decided on his content strategy not being for me.

The guy is a sad individual and comes off very emotional. I just don't hate react content, long as you talk at certain points in the video/pause it to say something or what not, it does not bother me. The way Hasan and XQC do it is obviously bad but not everyone does it like that and frankly I don't see it done that much.
