After going through 3 pairs of off-the-shelf heat moldable racing boots for my inline skates, no matter how many times I warmed them and up reshaped the particular areas, I could never completely rid them of one or more *painful* pressure points in each of the boots. By design, there isn't very much padding in a racing boot, just very stiff carbon fiber. So, after two or three hours of skating and getting squeezed or poked in the same spot on a bone a few thousand times, you can believe it that those pressure spots begin to hurt! And skating 4 or 5 times a week, they stay sore... Then a Pro at a marathon event told me I needed customs because my ankle bones are pretty big and my feet are pretty wide and have a sensitive pinky toe bone. I told him customs are expensive. He said how much did you spend on those three pair of boots that hurt your feet? I said hmmm, you have a point... loll So, he set me up with a boot maker who didn't wrap my feet with strips of plaster cloth, instead he put each foot into its own box, slightly larger than a shoe box. Then he mixed some powder with water and filled each box with my foot in it with the mixture, which then set-up like Jello into soft rubber after a few minutes. Then he sliced through it along the top of my foot so I could lift my foot out. He then filled that negative of my foot with liquid plaster and later stripped the rubber away and had an exact plaster mold of each foot and made the boots around them. After I broke them in and made a couple of minor heat molding tweaks, they fit like gloves! and I've been skating pain free in them for about six years!
That powder is alginate btw, incase you were curious or wanted to use it for stuff at home. Pretty interesting material, I would use it in my mask making business if it weren't a one-time use item though.

I used to speed skate competitively when they had five wheels on them. I miss it. I remember getting my first custom boots, they felt amazing. Still never helped me beat Chad Hendrick during practice sessions, but I sure as hell kept up with him. Wish I had applied myself more in my youth as I probably would have stood next to him at the Olympics.
I met Chad at a 10k Classic event in Atlanta. I thought he was taller. I miss speedskating too, sir. Wish i had a trainer through it all. Didn't realize the diet aspect of training was so calorie driven, until i got older.
Some types of resin and plastic won't polymerize together and can be removed easily. For example, smooth abs plastic and urethanes will not bond together.
As a former speed skating athlete, I've attached/detached many blades. The connection points have a screw bit where we either use regular screws or Allan screws to attach our bladse

This was a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be. I had no idea so much work went into making them.
Same ! Firstly, I didn't know they were soo custom-made and how many layers have to be used !
Very interesting

Hell yeah bro, Chad was a beast, I'm only 16, but a national champion speed skater, still watch Chad's races in 2022
Fuckin' Chad!
Yeah right

They nasty 😭😭

What sick fanfic is this?
?
Lmao it's like "goddamn it who put their fanfics in the script again?"

I wonder if the workers doing these examples think to themselves “oh boy, I’m gonna be on how it’s made!”
Nah, "oh boy, I'm gonna doing it slowly for the camera"
0:35 i would have appreciated a warning ⚠️
(4:00) So satisfying to watch
I do figure skating. Why am I so invested in this?!
That’s awesome, I’ve never seen vacuum bag resin infusion so we’ll. Does the plastic bag stick to the resin? When is that removed/trimmed?
Some types of resin and plastic won't polymerize together and can be removed easily. For example, smooth abs plastic and urethanes will not bond together.
That’s a PVA bag, of course it doesn’t stick
4:03 I’m sorry the resin does *what* to the *who?!*
I definitely didn’t ask for this, didn’t even know what they were but I got it.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO GO TO A NAIL SALON
😆 I saw the foot and immediately looked to see if someone commented on it.

The price on these must be fantastic
20 grand?
@@soulkitchen1979 mine pair was $3k with custom 3x110+1x100 frame
@@filda2005 ok. Is this how much the pros would pay or olympic athletes?
@@soulkitchen1979 A good pair of custom boots - minus the frame, wheels, or blades - can go for under $1000 USD.
@@Mark467 Can attest. Had a nice pair in the late 90s when skating was still big as a kid. They were about $300 and lasted a good few years.
Got damn those were some grippers.
This video creates more questions than it answers. Why does the mold sit in a store room? Was the storage room organized by a hoarder?
Thank you! I was questioning those molds sitting there, too.
Is there an episode for regular in line skates?
This is the only video that shows how the shell is made.
Can we all appreciate that he uploads consistently? 💕
No 😂
They*
The blade holders looked like they could easily be off , he used only his eye to set epoxy..
Can they adjust on the blade side? 🤔
wtf, i wanted to see how they attached and made the inline wheels haha

4:02 it WHATS
it only shows the making of the boot, not the actually assembly of the skate or rollers it self.
lol
The blades / inline frames are made by other companies and are interchangeable
@@realalbertan we already know that. this video is clickbait,
Great
4:00 my mind has been blown. wtf lmao
Someone has to be serious about skating to get custom-made skates.
Olympic athletes, high-performance skaters. I have a pair of custom-made speed skates from my competitive years
Thanks for making this content available
Well done! ✔
Nice!!!
I wish it would have shown how the wheel brackets and wheels are made and how they're attached to the skate boot.
Those are each entirely different and equally complex. I wish they went into even more detail about the boot itself
I think the companies on this show avoid showing viewers the very important parts like that to prevent someone from copying their design.
Different company makes them.
Uh, where did those initial staples go? Aren't they still in there?
OUCH!!

Looking at thumbnail at first i thought this video is about how to make speed skate cake....
So you're saying they have a foot closet? 🤔
How much would a pair of these cost? I bet they ain’t cheap!
The boots are $2500🇨🇦, the blades or wheels/frame are extra.
