A close personal friend of mine SS- Oberjunker Willi Fey ( Officer Candidate) was awarded the Knights Cross and the Panzerkampfabzeichen mit "25" Einsatzzahl for his actions in Berlin. He told me over Weinßhoppen one night how he was moving Reichkanzlei personnel and he was hit by a " Ratsch-bum'....seeing the shredded female bodies on his Tiger II...he also saw Martin Bormann on his last day alive.

I encourage everybody to travel to and visit Berlin. This city is like an open-air WWII museum and has many scars from the Battle of Berlin. I saw graves of German soldiers who were killed on the last day of the battle, and people still bring flowers to them.

The Tiger 2 which was disabled between the Humboldthain Flakbunker and the Hochstrasse was being used to bolster the defences there - it was escaping to the north when it was conscripted by superior officers.
It drove over a mine when being positioned and the damage was not repairable in the time that they had left.
I have spoken with Berliners who were there at the time, and was told about the spot where it stood, which I have visited many times.

I always wondered EXACTLY how the bunker staff managed to escape Berlin. Having a Tiger II escort certainly helps! Where did u get the info on the escape route, if I may ask? I had read some articles that escaping bunker staff traveled through the underground U-bahn tunnels and then rowed on the river to an island and from there they were able to get to American lines.

Tank kill claims must be taken with a large pinch of salt. Unlike pilots, tankers did not keep log books and were not formally debriefed after every combat mission. Nor, it appears, did they tend to keep score themselves at the time, nor could they accurately anyway. The obsession with numbers of kills sems to be a post war phenomenon transferred over from air force ace research. The German "Military History Visualized" UA-cam channel has two very good articles. "German Tank Kills: Lying with Statistics?" says that from July 1943 from Germans themselves halved claims to get a better idea of real Soviet losses and that when they checked claims with wrecks in a counter attack later that year they found that the overkill rate was nearly 60%. Furthermore, the accuracy of claims deteriorated towards the end of the war. The same series has an interview with an author who had extensively interviewed numerous tankers in which he says that they tended not to keep scores and that this is largely a retrospective, post-war obsession.

The USSR would have collapsed without the Lend-Lease Act and help from Britain (intelligence).
Loss of food would have sealed the fate of the soviets (unless helped by foreign powers fighting for communism)
The soviets got enough food from the USA to feed its soldiers for the rest of the war,
12 million boots , 60 percent aluminum and steel, a lot of tin , 90 percent of railway equipment ( the soviets would never have been able to conduct offensives so fast and transfer their main armies to critical points , 300000 trucks were given , 65 percent of aviation fuel and much more apart from 15 percent tanks ,aircrafts
Soviet sympathizers say "only 15 per cent was given to USSR"

BS 😁 Major Lend Lease started flowing only in 1943, when Stalin indirectly threatened separate peace with Germany. In 1941, when it was most needed, it was nowhere to be found. Some did arrive in 1942, but after disaster with PQ-17, it almost stopped.

According to the Russian historian Boris Vadimovich Sokolov, Lend-Lease had a crucial role in winning the war:
On the whole the following conclusion can be drawn: that without these Western shipments under Lend-Lease the Soviet Union not only would not have been able to win the War, it would not have been able even to oppose the German invaders, since it could not itself produce sufficient quantities of arms and military equipment or adequate supplies of fuel and ammunition. The Soviet authorities were well aware of this dependency on Lend-Lease. Thus, Stalin told Harry Hopkins [FDR's emissary to Moscow in July 1941] that the U.S.S.R. could not match Germany's might as an occupier of Europe and its resources.

You are a real "expert" on the subject. Do you really think that all of Berlin was defended by 2 tanks? Firstly, not two but a dozen or so Tigers took part in the defense of this city and its outskirts, and secondly, there were several hundred other German armored vehicles (e.g. from the Muncheberg Panzer Division and the 11th SS Nordland Division) that took part in these battles. And one more piece of information for you; In the Berlin operation in the second half of April 1945, the Soviets lost about 2,000 tanks and self-propelled guns.

    • @tahafarah1611
      @tahafarah1611 2 місяці тому

@@ukasz-zm9qc It doesn’t matter how much the Soviets lost. At the end of the day, they defeated Germany and brought it to its knees unlike the Nazis who failed to capture any of the major Soviet cities. The only thing the Germans were good at was committing atrocities but then again Germans are past experts at the “art” of genocide. They committed the first act of genocide of the 20th century in the world in Africa in what’s now Namibia. They murdered 70,000 victims of the Herero and Nama people between 1904 and 1908. This figure constituted 80% of the Herero population. Absolutely scandalous.

  • @aleksazunjic9672

In reality, Tigers were practically useless in urban combat. They did not destroy any Soviet tanks because Soviets pushed onwards with infantry, with tanks and self-propelled guns staying few hundreds meters behind to give support. Those Soviet tanks that were destroyed, were mostly victims of German infantry hiding in sewers, cellars, ruins ... Anyway, last German Tiger that was trying to escape Berlin was destroyed on a bridge, and crew burned inside. Those who claim they were fighting till the end, and then escaped, were ... embellishing the truth a little 😁 Of course, this had certain audience in the West, who liked to read how Germans were destroying "Russian horde" right until the end.
