What were the main events during the Soviet assault on the Reichstag? What symbolism did the capture of the Reichstag have for the Soviets? When was the Soviet flag raised on the Reichstag and who placed it? What happened to the German garrison led by Lieutenant Barbick?
    What were the estimated casualties on both sides during the battle for the Reichstag? Next, in this program, we will solve all these questions and many more...

    Thank you for touching this subject again and again. Berlin is truly something to delve into and the ferocity there is unmatched.

      @drlobomalo 15 днів тому +3

      I think the ferocity may have been worse at Budapest, but virtually no one on the Axis side survived so there's a lack of stories to tell. Aside from civilians who had no idea what was going on.

      @cellardoor9882 ... I think that I read somewhere that of the men of the Axis Force's that fought in Budapest, only a tiny contingent of about two thousand made a successful breakout, and of those a mere seven hundred mixed force of German and Hungarian Troops managed to reach their comrades lines in South Eastern Austria.

      No, it was mentioned, but only briefly. In his short discussion about
      the Frenchmen leftover from the Charlemagne Division.
      If you go back in the video to that section, you will hear him give say that the men of the Charlemagne Division were attached to the Nordland Division.

    Yesterday I watched 1973 movie Hitler : The Last Ten Days with Alec Guinness as Hitler, it is well worth watching. I rate it even with Downfall although Downfall goes into more detail after Hitler kills himself. 1981 made for TV The Bunker with Anthony Hopkins is very good. Two obscure Bunker movies 1955 German film The Last Ten Days & the even more obscure 1972 The Death of Adolf Hitler with Frank Finlay as Hitler.

    It would be too “politically incorrect(…)” to show an IIWW tragedy in which the German people were the victims… But on the day - closer than one imagines - when divine justice comes for the victims of the conflict that was NOT caused by Germany will not only have their just thirst for justice satisfied but will also see the deserved fate of their executioners.

    The final battle between two totalitarian regimes. The war that begun on June 22nd, 1941 and saw the Germans smashed through all along the Eastern Front. Then in 1942, the Soviets began the long and ardous journey from Stalingrad, to Kursk, Kuban, Kiev, Sevastopol, Crimea, Zhitomir, Dniper, Lenningrad, Narva, Minsk, Solmensk, Warsaw, Villnus, Tallin, Riga, Memel, Konigsberg, Budapest, Vienna, Vistula, Bresalu, and now finally after four years, Berlin. The Soviets who push back the Germans had suffered huge losses all along the Eastern Front all the while both sides committed atrocities in the millions. The Eastern Front was a war of extermination with extreme prejudice. 1945 will see the end of Nazism and the end of the supposedly 1000 year Reich. The Nazi Party began with Hitler and would die with Hitler. The end of the war is here.
