I dont know why I was led to watch this. I have seen many documentaries on D-Day. But this one is absolutely the most accurate and best narrative I have ever seen. Im 74 now. But when I ran across it and started to watch it. I couldn't stop. Even as I make this comment, my eyes fill with tears 😢. My dad was in the US Army 29th division that landed on Omaha Beach that day, and I SAW HIM. At 1:01:54, he is the soldier sitting next to the cliff with others looking directly at the camera. My God!! He was probably 20-21. I know it is him because I have a couple of pictures of him just before joining the service. And one pic of him after they made it into Normady. He was one of the few lucky ones that made the landing, and God had a plan for. (ME!) My dad never talked very much about that day or the war. All he would say to me is, "Son, no man should ever have to endure and see what we had to face and saw. It was pure hell!" I know he had a Silver Star and several ribbons my sister has, and he was a Sargent Major when he was discharged. I have his strips. So I never pushed him to talk about it. I lost my dad in 1979 from a massive heart attack. I had the opportunity 5 years ago to go to Normady and visit Omaha Beach and the Normady Memorial American Cemetery. That day was a beautiful, quiet day, and I stood in the cemetery, I just lost it! Not only because God kept my dad safe but all the men who sacrificed their lives on that bloody day. Maybe it was just me, but it was one of the most chilling and saddest days of my life! Now I know why I was led to watch this documentary. I'm going to call my sister and tell her to watch it! Dad, I'll always love you for your service and giving us life ❤😢❤.
My uncle was in the Normandy Landings and lived to tell the tale but I never realised how horrific it was to actually live through until this documentary. My uncle was also in Caen and Pegasus Bridge along with many other theatres of war including Remagen (Operation Market Garden I believe). At some point he 'celebrated' his 21st birthday during active service in WW2 - they were all so young and everyone a hero - thank you!
My Uncle Ernest Gorveatt landed with Canadian North Nova Scotia Highlanders on that day. He fought to Caen and was wounded fighting the Panzer Division that they ran into. He returned later before Falaise Gap and fought all the way to Calais where a shell fragment sent him back and finally back to Canada. Thank you for recognizing the Canadians! They were ferocious fighters that showed no mercy after 11 of their brothers were murdered in a church cemetery.
That doesn’t take away anything from his uncle or the many other brave Canadians that served during that time. It just shows how much of a joke our current world leaders are
My uncle was with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders as well. Sadly he never made it home. My father was with the North Shore Regiment (NB), he too fought to Caen & beyond. He made it home. My other uncle was with the 14th Field Ambulance, Canadian Medical Corps. He came home as well. Bless them all. They went through a lot, all of them.
@@gfdgfdet4Reqfg don’t come in here trying to start bs with your troll ass comments. This is a great historical documentary that’s used for educational purposes, not for your shit. And no shit the soldiers didn’t love it, no one here meant it in any way, shape or form that you’re *trying* to imply.
idk what language this is but it just needs to say "thank you USA" especially if it is french, we saved your entire country. You are welcome. The maginot line was a joke
@@tmacfan824 You are really in here demanding a thank you? Almost all service members received many thank yous and elated women in France, by the french. Trying to tell someone who most likely doesn't have a parent who fought in WW2 to say "thank you USA" to appease you who definitely did not serve in World War 2 is just despicable. As an American myself whose grandfather fought in WW2 in the Pacific theater, you, in my opinion, are part of the reason that give us citizens a bad rap.
in 2014, this spirit was revived in Ukraine with the help of nationalists who are trying to show the whole world that they are waging a “righteous fight”, but in reality this is not the case. think about it... you would be pleased if the deeds of your valiant ancestors were desecrated and called unnecessary???
I'm 67 and have watched countless documentaries on this subject , but I have never seen one explain and examine in every aspect in such a complete and thorough way...Well done , First Class.
Thank you for usa to deliver my father 25 years old, from France he go volontary to protect France from Nazi, he was taken by Nazi at 20 years old in a Stalag in Deutschland 😰 I am 65 years old and I say thank you Dad for your devotion 🙏🙏🙏
Well my dear armchair-filosopher. Be assured - all US/UK pathetic thruppence drivel is another waist of grandfather´s lend and lease time on earth. The real war was fought by the great Soviet Union - 100% in Stalingrad, Kursk, Moscow or even Leningrad or the Nazi-Berlin. Sic transit fascist gloria mundi. Anglo-Saxon´s contribution to WWII had just been another kind of slimy opportunism in hope of getting a piece of Papa Stalin´s final booty. Better start studying real history before keeping on wallowing pleasurably in Hollywood´s slurry pool day and night - you brainwashed ignorant.
This is the best documentary I have ever seen on 2nd world war. It's not possible for me to forget such a beautiful piece of work, which I ended up watching with tears in my eyes. Really feeling sorry for those unknown faces, lost their young lives in a foreign beach with inhospitable conditions. My salute for those brothers again.

Unfortunately, our department of education doesn't think this should be in our history studies in public school. The greatest generation has been forgotten by Gen z and millennials. They live privileged safe lives because of what these men sacrificed and they don't even know about it.
@@charlesbronson4026well i would say the “victors” of this dispute, along with their international organizations, have shown in 80 yrs that they are no better than the enemy that was vanquished.
No words to what I’ve just watched, possibly the best documentary of all time, IMO. This would of been even more impactful if the carnage wasn’t blurred out, but respect the respect shown to these poor men, who are rich in heaven 🙏🏼. RIP to all those brave men who lost their lives and thank you to all of ones who came home, my Grandad included 🙏🏼❤️.
Tes grand parent t'on jamais dis que tu as faillit parler américain ?
Wonderful and accurate work. From the son of a soldier who died in Normandy on July 4, 1944 and the stepson of an amphibious engineer officer who landed on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944. What a tribute to all those who fought to liberate France and the rest of Europe.

80 yeas on the hour. Think of these men often. Will never be able to thank them enough. God speed, fellas. Thank you for your courage and sacrifice in service.
I watched this with tears in my eyes. Many young people today are shouting for strange freedoms that they already have. The same age as many of those in this documentary, who sacrificed so much. I served, but could never match what these people did. Although my children place place high value and express deep gratitude for what these people did, I'll make sure that they see this film, as should all parents and school teachers. That way they may have a greater understanding and appreciation for what we all have today.
They’re stupid. If you look at the men in this video, you’ll see they were content with little-to-nothing. Women were still honorable, and they respected men. It was a different era, and won’t ever be seen again,
@@NoTaboos If no one really knows the exact colors anyway then you have no benchmark against which to judge good or bad. So how can you say it's too brown and green?
One of the best documentary about D-Day in Normandy I ever see with full informations. In memory and respect of all soldiers who were fighting against the nazi regime and lost their lifes.
I have seen many documentaries on the war, but having recently visited all the D-day beaches, this documentary has really brought home the reality of what happened on those beaches. Fantastic footage. Lest we forget!

It makes the people who wrote this sound either bitter and resentful of the help or like they're just trying to propagate resentment towards America and/or are just ignorant. The fact is that America mostly stayed out of it until Japan decided it was going to Declare War on America by bombing Pearl Harbor and then Germany decided to join them in that misguided notion.
This documentary just showed up on my UA-cam preferences by chance, and the only thing it occurred to me to say is that it is probably the best documentary that I have ever watched on D-Day.
I dont't know who is responsible for the intro of this documentary but give him a damn raise. This is without a doubt the best intro I've ever seen. The music, the camera shots, hearing the numbers of what they brought up for this operation, the original sounds and so on. It's honestly a perfect intro that makes you hyped in my opinion. Thanks for that!
I agree with those who have commented about the blurred footage but other than that this may be amongst the best WW2 documentaries ive ever seen. Really takes you there to that time.

I Wached This On June 6th 2024 The 80th Anniversary Of D-Day And There Was No Better Way To Remember This Historic Event That Took Place 80 Years Ago Thank You To All The Brave Men Who Fought On That Day.
I pull out my DVD of the movie, Saving Private Ryan every June to remember D Day. I sometimes wonder while watching it, if the families of these soldiers would have seen this movie if it had come out in the 1950s, how horrified they’d be watching something so real to the actual battles and that Omaha landing. Our old movies back then were so sanitized and all they did was glorify WWII.
Oh my gosh, that was an incredible documentary! It is unbelievable how all of the pieces came together. All of the background footage was so amazing. So much sacrifice by the Allies. Thank you!
so muh sacrifice by both sides. The Germans had no other option. While many people try and argue a pride in doing so, everyone seems to forget how terrible Germany's economy was for years after the first world war. WW2 would have never happened had the treaty of versaille been fair, not for the leaders but for the people who had no decision in the war. It left the German people open to manipulation. Hitler would never be able to do what he did if not for the punishment of normal working lass people.
Come on you thrupppnce minger. That is just 10% of the real war fought against the Nazi-Scumbags. 90% of the war was on charge of the great Soviet Union with more than 28 million dead souls. Americas greatest generation and many around the world owe a great deal of gratitude to the men and women who answered the call and served during this time in history.
let's not forget the filling of NYC with folk from across the US (American Nazis) in support of Hitler- they were less so heroes, the rest, for sure, undoubtedly
They changed the history of the world. The best generation that has ever lived on earth. The effort they made should be classified as one of the wonders of the earth. I admire them deeply, honorably and I have them to thank for my life I have today!
Both of my grandfathers fought the Germans in WWII. I know that they took part in the fighting in France, though one of them told me he arrived after the storming of Omaha was over. He said he was glad he missed that one. Nonetheless he saw his fair share of horrors over there and fought in the battles depicted involving Patton's army. He helped liberate a concentration camp as well. After the war was over he came back and worked two jobs to support a family. My other grandfather had succumb to ptsd and alcoholism and spent the rest of his life homeless shortly after having children. I never got to hear his story. I am very grateful to both them for the sacrifices they made. They don't call them the greatest generation for nothing.
It's really sad to see how the government takes care of gays and trans who did nothing for anyone.. they elevate Mr. Fetynol into a god-like status.. but does not care about veterans who liberated the world from tyrany.. Your current government is a rotten, decaying trash.. :(
In my younger years I was a huge absorber of WWII history. I’d pour over every book I could in the libraries, and truly found that time fascinating, and still do. As I grew up and fell into other things, I didn’t spend as much time enveloping myself in the stories of yesteryear, at least as deep as I had before. This video popped up in my feed, and I’m overcome with such a feeling, like a longing I wasn’t aware of experiencing, washing away for having stumbled into this. In short - thanks, sincerely.
I admire your excellent effort in reading every book you could find from the libraries about history of World War Two. 💯 I'd studied 20th Century politics and history during my college days when I was young.
As strange as it sounds. I always try to find my grandfather in any of these documentaries. I guess I just miss him so much. He always had all the answers. He always had time for me. He taught me how to fight. How to shoot a firearm. How to play poker, chess and respect only those who earned it. I wish he was still around. I feel so privileged to be alive. Grandpa, I miss you.
I feel the same way. My late father finished high school in Syracuse, New York, and was drafted into the army a few weeks later. He was one of the lucky ones who was only shot in his left shoulder. He was hospitalized and rehabilitated by weaving leather wallets, which he always kept safe. When I broke my elbow at 9 years old, he healed me. There wasn't such a thing as physical therapy for a fractured, funny bone for a child. He was a high school biology teacher and understood how the elbow needed to be stretched out after being in a cast for 2 months. He had me carry buckets if rocks around the house adding more from Lake Ontario every couple of days. I regained full range of motion in my arm. I was his only baby girl and he always protected me. ❤
After his rehabilitation, he returned to war and stayed until the end. He NEVER complained about his shoulder that often dislocated when he tried to lift a heavy object. He just smiled said that he was fine and popped it back in. He never wanted to be seen as being weak or injured. He NEVER told war stories about his injury. He simplified it if it popped out in front of a stranger. "Just an old football injury." He never played football.
@@colleenpeck6347he must have been quite some man to know Colleen . I have so much respect for all the allied soldiers from WW2 . These men were my heros when I was a kid and they still are . Sorry for your loss sweetheart, best wishes from the uk
The Second World War colonial period of 1939 - 1957 was fought between the USA, England and France for the inheritance of the British Empire; the USA won, dismantling the British Empire for parts. As we see, the USSR, Germany and Japan are not the states most affected by WWII; these are the technologies of indirect control of the Colonial Powers. In 1953, Stalin lost the Korean Forgotten War and the British wrote him off. Hitler was an Austrian, his headquarters were Austrians, the Anschluss of Germany into Austria, Austria was the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation. Hitler did not take Europe, Europe was Hitler's ally. Don’t be deceived, the third world war is already underway in 2020, first a hybrid war, now informational on the resettlement of Israelis to their historical homeland along Babel closer to Odessa, very soon a regular one with China where China will already be like the USSR 2.0 Britain wants the ground operation in China to be carried out by the United States, which is equivalent to 20 Vietnams combined, which is why ordinary Americans should already help the inhabitants of the former USSR, only together can we Win!
@orklord6668 Every side tells their story with a bias in favor of "their side". I try to watch any and everything I can on a given subject from every available perspective. I don't think it's accurate to describe them as "poor and full of lies" because everyone has their own perspective. Perhaps your bias is towards the Reich?
@STATOSHI Russia let Germany rebuild their military and sold them arms in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Then they teamed up to invade Poland before Hitler betrayed Stalin. Russia had to clean up a mess they helped start. They were lucky America provided them with money and equipment to fight on the Eastern front, considering what a terrible ally they were.
What an incredible documentary, it’s so hard to take in the shere size and scale of the whole operation from all the hard manual work going into building those barges and prep work and servicing for the machinery, aircraft , munitions and supplies and making sure everything ran like clockwork for the struggle that lied ahead. Just wow. not to mention the heat being right in the middle of summer hats off to all those who did there part serving for there country and fellow allies among the shores 🙏👏

I just watched because of the film 🎥 . Did not understand a word . It was breath taking. I was watching with tears in my eyes because my grandfather fought on Omaha beach .
The best documentary I've seen so far. Usually there are no explanations for the troop movements or decent maps but you had both. In the first 30 minutes I learned more than I had learned in the previous 71 years. Yeah, I'm an old lady, but I can still dance and I did on 6/6/24 to honor those that perished including my uncle and one of his sons. My mother is now 100 and though her memory and mind are failing she still remembers the war years and the terror and sometimes despair that accompanied it, but when she remembers my father stepping off the ship in Boston Harbor she looks like an angel of happiness. Thank you men for keeping our democracy safe. Now we just have to have the courage to do the same thing at home lest we fall into the same trap as the German citizens did under Hitler, ignoring the danger until it was too late. Vote blue!
So tragic watching these young men get killed, they are true heroes! Fighting for our future, real men! Now look at the state of Britain! The country's leaders, the government have destroyed everything they fought for! And not one of them have the balls like these great men! So sad. Thanks for the amazing documentary, really enjoyed it.
Churchy shouldn't have pushed so hard for war, over and over and over. I'm no defender of AH, but he had great respect for Britain and always wanted alliance and not war. At least not with them in the beginning. He went into Poland to defend ethnic Germans being oppressed, starved, and much worse. And he would have stopped there, for the time being, as I believe the Eastern Front was inevitable. Why would Churchy declare war on Germany and make an alliance with "Uncle Joe", who he supposedly despised for over two decades, in order to defeat them? What did he get out of it? USSR became a superpower, He lost the '45 election, Britain lost the Empire and leverage in world issues, their home country was flat broke, cities destroyed. Despite being on the winning side, didn't make out that much better than defeated Germany. Even the "zone" they were given in Germany post-war was probably one of the two worst. Not the best outcome. Money can make men do crazy things....
Right? I eat these documentaries up, and have ever since I was a kid, and there's some footage here I've NEVER seen. Not to mention some of the smaller details I've never had illustrated in such a way.
The Second World War did not begin and did not end with the English Channel. The Great Patriotic War was won by the USSR and the allies. The USA and England did not land until the last day. When it became clear that the USSR was winning, then England decided to grab a piece of the winners' pie.
@@ArtemPetrovi4 Don't forget that USSR had no hope if not for USA and English help and supplies after USSR made a deal with the devil. Hitler and Stalin where two mad evil men .
Now we have the worst...enemies of the very freedoms the generation of 1944 fought and died for. 30% of the so-called 'gen z' do not even believe the Holocaust happened, while most of the rest simply don't care. Sickening.
My great grandfather served in the Army, he was a 2nd Leiutenant. He was in this battle for Normandy. He had many medals including the Victoria Cross. He died two before the end of the ww2. He is buried in France. I changed my name and took his. Words cannot express our grief, or our gratitude. Forever in our thoughts. Always in our hearts! I'm a ww2 buff and to this day years after first being interested in all of this, i can NOT begin to even imagine what life was like during those times. The pure dark horror that surrounded you each and everyday is almost hard to believe actually happened. The millions of people killed, murdered. etc. These brave men and women had passion and desire for their own country more than i think anyone or any group could today. Looking at the massive amounts of ships, tanks, soldiers etc etc that came together to fight off the atrocities, the manufacturing might the people had. All of that is just a pipe dream in todays society. I had a ww2 vet in my family and all the times i was around him when he was alive he would never talk about it. But you could tell he never stopped thinking about what he did or went through. You can physically see the pain and anguish in their eyes it is so sad. The pure sheer will and courage to do what they all did back then just blows my mind and can't understand it. All of the innocent civillians living in Europe during ww2, i dont know how they did it. Still, millions did not make it. Society needs never forget the dark times in our history and be educated on the matters to maybe one day, find a way where shit like this doesn't ever have to happen again. RIP to the fallen. Thank you for your unmeasurable bravery and courage so that today my family and i can live a peaceful life, along with so many others.
Mate that was brilliantly written. I agree we will never know their real pain and suffering. I can't imagine how it must have felt to watch your best mates get killed/maimed/ blown to bits. @@alohaboha1182 I am sorry. I was being sarcastic. Meaning to say, not honoring the Russian war efforts is part of propaganda in our schools after the cold war started. And when we look at the news today, the propaganda continues.
My father, due to being in the Air Force in the early 1950s was sent to Germany. He and some of his pals went to see Auschwitz. He was taken aback by actually seeing and experiencing that death camp. He said when they went to see the "ovens", you could stand in one spot and feel warm, but when they stepped over to another spot, they suddenly would feel a cold chill until they stepped away. He never forgot, or lost his slides, about what he saw at Auschwitz. The pictures we saw from those slides he snapped as he toured the camp gave us girls a clear and unmistakable impression of what death camps were like.

To blurr or censor anything in incredible footage such as this one, to me, betrays part of the lessons of war footage like this gives us. I believe people should see how truly horrible it can be without filters. On the other hand... these are real people with real faces, real families, descendants, and that impact can be very different on them... Either way, thanks for making this available to us!

God bless all the allies that we lost. And God bless all who served . Unfortunately today not many are left. Wish today's generation would study and learn.
This doc is on point it fills the gaps and it's unbiased. I feel awful for all the civilians that died getting caught up just trying to live their lives .
I'm pretty sure the ppl that lived through this conflict in the 1940's didn't think they were ready for it either. We would loose droves of ppl that refused to adapt. But (hopefully) _we_ would grow stronger because of it.
In my long lifetime we have moved from the “Greatest Generation” who rescued European democracy in WWII to the “worst generation” of MAGA who want to cut and run from supplying weapons to the heroic Ukrainian democracy, even though they are doing all the fighting and dying. We were simply doing to Russia what they did to us in Vietnam. MAGA is not just turning its back on the democracies of Europe, but dishonoring our many heroic Vietnam war vets. My father was a captain in the US Army and my mother was a nurse in VA hospitals. They would cry if they knew what MAGA has done to our country. It’s sickening what MAGA has done.
Never have I ever, and I’ve seen every WW2 documentary. This has had some of the most outstanding back information I have never seen. The concrete ships to sink on the beaches to destroy underwater mines and barricades was mind boggling.
Ferroconcrete was made to build ships. I grew up in a town on the coast of British Columbia that has a large lumber mill on the water. They have a breakwater there for the log pond that is made up of six ferroconcrete Liberty ships. Still floating 80 years after being left there.
I dont know why I was led to watch this. I have seen many documentaries on D-Day. But this one is absolutely the most accurate and best narrative I have ever seen. Im 74 now. But when I ran across it and started to watch it. I couldn't stop. Even as I make this comment,
my eyes fill with tears 😢.
(ME!)
My dad never talked very much about that day or the war.

MAGNIFIQUE.
MERCI!

I would say this is the best war documentary I ever watched. Well done.
I "PROUD" TO Be CANADIAN 🇨🇦 ❤❤
Thats why last year, the Canadian Parliament invited a Nazi veteran which was glorified by the every member in the parliament
Also, the landing craft that shows the Canadians landing on Juno Beach has some of the North Shore Regiment (NB) fellows making the first landing.

Well my dear armchair-filosopher. Be assured - all US/UK pathetic thruppence drivel is another waist of grandfather´s lend and lease time on earth.
It was a different era, and won’t ever be seen again,

so muh sacrifice by both sides. The Germans had no other option. While many people try and argue a pride in doing so, everyone seems to forget how terrible Germany's economy was for years after the first world war.

Don’t be deceived, the third world war is already underway in 2020, first a hybrid war, now informational on the resettlement of Israelis to their historical homeland along Babel closer to Odessa, very soon a regular one with China where China will already be like the USSR 2.0
Britain wants the ground operation in China to be carried out by the United States, which is equivalent to 20 Vietnams combined, which is why ordinary Americans should already help the inhabitants of the former USSR, only together can we Win!
One of the best WW2 documentaries by far.... Still unbelievable after all this time..

@Orklord 666 sounds like your spreading propaganda bud
My Dad was there in the thick of it. Had battle scars to show for it. May he RIP at the ripe age of 90, 65 years after Hell on Earth.

Occasionally he told stories , he was not sentimental. But he had tears in his eyes as he recalled the day of landing at Omaha Beach. Understand why .

It's not just the government, it's people losing the balls to do anything. Everyone can share in that blame.
Incredible documentary, the best I've seen on this event. The combat cameraman's footage, especially during training sequences, adds so much depth

He is on the wall of remembrance and in the BBC archives.
I silently cried all along while seeing the film, plague with upsetting feelings, emotions with uncried tears with those who gave up their carreers, their love ones, both back in the Americas and in Europe, friend or enemy, so sad, so tragic and heart wrenching.

This was a documentary that everyone should watch. God bless these men and their families, your sacrifices will never be forgotten.
Its a shame and disgrace to them to be living wrong despite how good we can potentially have it with what that generation did for us
Mate that was brilliantly written. I agree we will never know their real pain and suffering. I can't imagine how it must have felt to watch your best mates get killed/maimed/ blown to bits. We owe these people so much and I make sure my kids are aware of their sacrifice and bravery. Watching this brings me to tears. Absolute legends. RIP heroes. At the going down of the sun.😢

@@alohaboha1182Shhhhhhhh 🤫 We can't talk about that.
@@allencollins6031 why?
Du kannst dir ja mal die Rheinwiesenlager anschauen
I've always thought the JEWS Should have been given the state of Texas in lieu of Israel but fully understand its importance.. the area and topography is similar. Big buffer zone.
Auschwitz wasn't a death camp. The pictures of the bodies are from starvation, everyone was starving in Germany.
It's less of a creater issue, but rather a UA-cam restriction on not allowing the monetisation of videos with gore/'offensive themes'.
