@Dexter Suarez Same here, bro. I am currently recovering from my second amputation in 2 years (on the same leg; I became a below knee amputee on June 16, 2020 and had that revised to an above knee amputee on June 3, 2022 because - as I expected and told the doctors initially - a below knee amputation did not stop my chronic limb ischemia due to a rare vascular condition that top surgeons had only seen 2x in their career at arguably the top teaching hospitals in the Southeast USA). I never gave up when I spent 2016 - 2020 seeking a definitive treatment or surgery and kept failing the less invasive or more temporary procedures tried to help me before amputation. I suffered, cried, wanted to die, but I never gave up....and I have grown immensely to understand that health and time are the only two things that I need to be happy. I need to achieve my personal best health, whatever that ends up being, to be enabled to pursue my passions. Secondly, I need time to spend with my loved ones, family, friends, etc. and to pursue my personal passions/interests. I do not need social media (I deleted it all besides UA-cam 5 years ago and have never been happier..."ignorance is bliss" is the most underappreciated saying ever because it is so true) or likes; I do not need a fancy job or a lot of money and personal possessions.

Two of my favorite sayings, roughly paraphrased, are: Shoot for the moon; even if you fall short, you'll land among the stars. And Set a goal so big you can't achieve it until you grow into the person who can. Aiming for giant challenges in any area of life means we come out a "better" person than we went in... whether we achieve it or not. Of course, I'm comfortable in my ultrarunning mediocrity, so I have a lot less outside pressure to succeed. Best wishes to him on his journey to the moon.

you know the stars are much further away than the moon? :) in fact, the moon is the closest thing to earth :D

A lot of Ryan’s philosophy rings true to me. Especially the breaking it down to bite size chunks. And for me the mantra has always been keep on keeping on 👍

Ryan, you mentioned in the video that you're in a place right now where you're feeling happy and content. And that those feelings don't help one as much when you're looking to do something special or in preparation for a big goal in terms of ultra trail events. It makes sense; when we want to achieve big things, it usually comes from a place of discomfort or frustration or realizing that we have to push past impossible limits, mentally and physically. BUT - - what if there is something to be said about that actual happiness that you're feeling right now? What if you humored it and went with it? Would it be so wrong to change course or take on something completely new and different? There is no doubt that Ryan Sandes is for sure a GOAT in his own right (no one can ever take that away from him), but what if life is presenting you with the opportunity to take on a new path or a different type of adventure? Not taking away competitive running or trekking necessarily but offering you the chance to discover something new about yourself. I think this is a question we can all ask ourselves. Myself included. We are not what we do; we are how we treat the people around us. We don't love our family members because of the job they do or what they achieve in their careers. Sure, it can motivate and inspire us to help reach potential but that's not what it's about at the core.
