Satisfactory is a first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat. Planet Crafters is a favorite of mine. The last update really put it over the top with the trading rockets and the expanded capability of the drones. All the updates have been great so far. I play this at least as much as Satisfactory. I have played Shapez, so I am looking forward to Shapez 2. I am a long-time Minecraft player and have been playing modded Minecraft since 1.2.5. There are some absolutely great modpacks for Minecraft that have very deep automation systems. Stoneblock 3, FTB Skies, and the new Enigmatica 9 that just came out, which is an expert pack, have fantastic automation systems that you need to build in order to progress in these modpacks. That is just three of hundreds. There are just too many to list. Some of the Minecraft mods are actually better than some of the factory games coming out, IMO. The Mekanism mod for example is one of the deepest and most interesting mods out there and rivals anything in any of the dedicated factory games. Try making some antimatter in Mekanism. If you like automation, modded Minecraft is definitely one to check out. There is much more to modded Minecraft than automation though; some of the magic systems are very deep and quite rewarding to explore. Exploration mods, RPG mods--you name it, there is probably a modpack for it. I don't play vanilla Minecraft much but play a lot of modded Minecraft and it is interesting and fun.
I’ve come across astroneer on gamepass couple of times, never realizing it was a factory game. Definitly going to try it now!

Where's factorio? They are getting a new dlc for the first time since release.
This is an update video to the one from 5 months ago. Factorio was already mentioned there as the very first thing.
As far as I have seen, the Space Age update is currently planned for August 2024.

I would also suggest planet s. It's an game were you can colonize a galaxy with different planets, while being able to harvest them and manufactor them to different goods. You can play alone, with friends or a bot. I think it is definitely worth checking out, especially because it is free.
Game recommendation: Sandship. This game is not on pc, is for mobile but is just as good as any automation game, if not, the best (for mobile, imo). In this game you have like a giant "tank" roaming around a desert and you can build factories on top of it, but each factory need to be purchased and each one of them have a different size. The bad part is that I THINK that the production ratio is 1:1 but idk, there's been a while since I last played it, but in this game you also need to check the temperature of the items, because some of them need to be heated to be transformed into other items, and some need to cool down. And it also has some missions where you can upgrade your tank and factories and also puzzles made by the community where you can figure the best way to produce a certain item. It's very entertaining
Astroneer is super underrated give it a go on Xbox or pc it’s super fun and has given me over 300 hours of fun and if it gets boring just make a new world and take a new approach (taking it slow, speed running, UA-cam play through, or with friends ) it’s not to hard but not to easy 5 stars!!,
Factory Town is never mentioned in these videos. It's a great chill automation game - be sure to check it out!
My favorite automation games are still Autonauts (I like the original far better than the space pirate combat one) and Satisfactory, but definitely wishlisted several of these, very cool!
these are indeed all good games, i can confirm this as someone that only played around 3 of these
If you mentioned Minecraft mods, you gotta mention gregtech and modpacks made by its community. Unless, as it seemed from the footage of it, captain of industry also has realisticish processing lines, gregtech, and by extension modpacks based around it, have the one-of-a-kind aspect of having hyperrealistic processing lines utilising real chemistry. There's advanced real alloys (Like Ultimet and HSSs), Silicon processing into computer parts, etc. Currently Gregtech: New Horizons and possibly Technological Journey are the most developed modpacks, although Supersymmetry, a WIP modpack is striving to make their modpack extra realistic, their main developer being a real physicist.

LOVE Foundry it so needs to hurry up and release.
u forgot the big brother of astroneer, space engineer is very simukar to astroneer but has a difrent grapfic and more irl physic whit a whole solarsystem u can play on anf fly between, u can build drones ships miners ect, u can build almoste everything thanks to open mods and the programabal block inside the game, and the last ai update made the drones even more autonom
Don't Forget about Mindustry, which is a fantastic Automation/RTS hyrbrid! (The Developer is still working on the game)

@@TotalXclipse Anuke's break is over, they have been working on a new update in the background for at least a month, even if it's in the planning phase at the moment.
Desynched is pretty high on my list for "my next 3 month are planned out". And with DSP, I hope it gets a sequel some day.
Looks like an interesting combination of factory and a programming game. Things not many incorporate, or need mods.

Satisfactory still does it for me, despite a growing list of problems and annoyances. Other games just don't do anything for me, except The Planet Crafter, which is decent but smaller in scale. I don't like pixellated graphics, or things that look too cartoonish, or things that are constantly dark. May end up taking a break from games in 2024. Just finish up my SF project by year end is my goal.
I agree. Hopefully 1.0 will rectify Satisfactory. I think in the meantime I'm check out Desynched, Dyson Sphere, & Factario.
I was going to say Minecraft mods are my current top along with satisfactory and would you look at that. Minecraft mods are on the list. Although I will say rn BG3 and now Starfield has put a hold on both of those games.

Too many games in this genre are comic style. Satisfatory is outstanding, even without lumen
Is it even possible to make an automation game not with machines, but in a medieval setting? how would that look like?
That would be cool, using windmill sails, oxen carts and people to turn cogs to make the factory run!
That would be amazing! You could even have watchtowers on the road to defend against highwaymen

Those may be good to great games, but why are developers seemingly so intent on using graphics that make the games look like they're intended for pre-teen kids?
I don't think they are - just the graphics suit the Devs intended style.
