My favorite moment from the entire Dragon Ball franchise was when goku went super saiyan 3 against Fat Buu. When I tell I was motivated to work out after watching that moment. Rest In Paradise to one of the GOATS, he was an important part of our childhoods 🙏🏾🐐🕊

To people confused about their grief. The passing of someone like Toriyama is a unique kind of grief. 99% of us never met him and yet he changed our lives. I’ve already seen people saying don’t be sad Dragon ball will keep going. But it’s not the franchise itself that changes our lives it’s the vision of this one man. It will be hard for anyone outside the fandom to understand what it’s like but don’t be afraid to grieve, don’t think you shouldn’t because you didn’t know him. Dragon ball helped me have so many experiences and meet people and have hype community reactions but it was also there in moments with just me. Those are the moments coming to mind right now, quiet moments alone with this series. For me is was watching Goku go super Saiyan 3 before all my sport matches to hype me up. And it was playing kakarot after a bad breakup, small moments that no one will know about that’s what’s hitting me the hardest. This kind of grief also gives us a community to help each other out through this process, if you’re a new or old dragon ball fan we are all feeling the same thing and we can all be there for each other through this ❤️

Akira Toriyama was a fucking legend. His stories touched millions, myself included. I was first introduced to the series by playing battle of Z I think it was on the 360 and the rest was history. His work introduced me to a whole new medium of entertainment and I don’t think I can ever recapture the joy I get from watching something dragon ball related. I met my best friend today due to our shared interest in dragon ball and I would give my left arm in a heartbeat for that guy. Dragon ball as a franchise shows that works of fiction go beyond just the words on the paper and change the lives of millions. An inspiration, A legend, An Icon. His name was Akira Toriyama. Rest in peace.

I mean all I can really think to say is Rest In Peace, Akira Toriyama.
He created one of the most impactful mangas that inspired so many others, not just writers, but people in general.
If not for his creativity, my childhood wouldn’t have been as good as it was.
I met so many great people through Dragon Ball, and to this day many of them are close friends. It’s so shocking he was only 68, too.
Inspired generation of children to try their best to shoot Kamehamehas and trying to go Super Saiyan.
Rest well, Mr. Toriyama. You will be missed. My regards to his friends and family. ❤

dfree your a real one for sharing that personal story.
for me, dragonball like many was the gateway to anime. my mom didnt let me watch tv on school days cause i was a shitty student but i begged her to let me watch dbz on toonami after school. the overall message of dragonball in my opinion is that you can always break your limits, no matter what you are doing in life. whether it be a sport or even what you do for work, if you are dedicated enough you can always improve. that message still lives on in me today in the way i live. the dragonball franchise will always be the GOAT anime to me. the influence Mr Toriyama had in not just anime but also gaming is so big you cant even put it into words.
    rest in Peace Mr. Toriyama

Your story is incredibly poignant and really hits home to my own experiences growing up. Dragon ball to me wasn't just a show, but a medium for me to feel comfortable and escape from the difficulties of reality. I remember waking up during cold winter mornings when the sky was still dark and rushing to wake up my siblings so we can find out what adventures goku was up to, all without a single worry about the world. Such simple times, such beautiful simple times I wish I could relive for the first time again. I never was a very social kid in school, I was very shy, awkward, and just a general geek, so fitting in was something I struggled with for some time. Dragon ball helped find others who were like me and helped me make my very first friendships, some of which I cherish to this day. Even now as an adult where I have so many more responsibilities and stress in my life, I still look back on this series and the motivational lessons taught from time to time to help find the drive to continue to try my best, as corny as that may sound. If not for this series, my life would be very different than it is now and I can't imagine it any other way. Thank you for the memories and inspiration you've given not just myself, but millions of others through your work, Toriyama. It was genuinely an adventure like no other and I wouldn't trade a moment of it. Goodbye, my friend.

My earliest memory of dragon ball was staying up late to watch toonami when I was a kid. I tuned into trunks' first appearance and I remember thinking "this is the coolest character ever", and the show was so damn cool and so different from anything I had seen prior. From that I got into the rest of the show, all the games, everything all meant so much to me then and even more to me now. Toriyama is a legend who touched the lives of countless people, he helped shape a huge part pop culture and is a large reason why anime and japanese media is so huge in the west now.
RIP to the greatest to ever do it

I'm 18 years old, and for the past 3 years I have never even cried a single tear, but this news... it devastated me.. I cried like my own family died. I used to come back from school, running to the TV to watch Dragon Ball. It helped me endure all the bullying and trauma... just watching Goku's light-hearted smile and the engaging fights gave me courage to go on... I think the one that cried was the little kid in me, that part of me that is so fucking grateful for the help he gave, not only to me, but an entire community.
    Rest in Power, Toriyama-sensei...

GT was my first introduction to Dragon Ball. At first, I didn’t understand it, since I was just a little kid. All I saw was a little kid was getting beat down by some adult with white hair (Goku vs Baby Vegeta), and I knew that an adult shouldn’t do that. Well, as I grew older, I understood the context and grew to absolutely love this series, as well as most of the other anime that were inspired by Dragon Ball. Man, this still doesn’t feel real…

I may have hated on him for coming up with Super, but he still created the legendary show that was my childhood
Dragonball was part of my life since i was 4, coming up with Super won't make me forget that, it was the reason both my mind and body are healthier. He was an amazing artist, despite him joking about being lazy all the times. A lot of the plot in the manga happened because he kept trying to find ways to save on linework, just for his art to become more and more detailed every arc. Drawing Dragon Ball in middle school was the start of my decision in becoming an art student in college, and Its also the reason i work out to stay healthy. If it wasn't for him, I would probably never grew an interest for drawing and art as a whole. He, and his work, introduced me to this field; it saved me from a rough place back in middle school... now I've built my whole life around studio arts because of him. Even if i don't make it in the field with how brutal the industry is, i don't regret my choice. I learned so many wonderful things in college, and finally found a direction for the future. This man literally changed my life with his one work. I feel devastated, i slandered him so much for making Super, but I wouldn't be here if my younger self didn't just randomly decided to sketch Goku that one day in middle school. I know know how to make art in multiple mediums, from painting to sculpting. Even if i don't make it in the field i don't regret learning all these wonderful things. Rest in peace king, and thank you for everything. Akira Toriyama, you were the champion. You were number one.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm 28 years old, and some of my earliest memories were of watching Dragon Ball Z on Toonami with my cousins.
Even though I'm an adult, I still beg my sister to play Dragon Ball Z games with me.
DBZ had such an incredible impact, and brought a special piece of Japanese culture to the west. To say that it inspired a generation, is a tragic understatement. Dragon Ball Z represented perseverance, Inner Strength, and motivation. Qualities that only make us better people. He left an incredible legacy behind, and he'll never be forgotten.

Man... This man impacted my life so much with the Dragon Ball franchise. I started watching Dragon Ball Z in the summer of 1996. On one Saturday morning after watching TMNT and other cartoons. My Brother and I came across watching Vegeta vs Zarbon during the Frieza saga. We were so amazed at the fight, we had to watch more. I've fallen in love with Dragon Ball Z since then. I would go to the library after school to watch Dragon Ball, DBZ, even GT. He's the reason why I wanted to become an artist, people ask me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to be the next Akira Toriyama, no joke. I watched Dragon Ball in so many languages before English. That how much of a fan I am. So many moments that man has given us. I got nothing but love and respect for him. It's a sad time for this man to be gone. My condolences to his family and friends. This man's legacy will go on. Again, thank you Akira Toriyama, God bless.

It is because of him that I love manga and anime as much as I do, his work helped shape me into who I am… and I’m sure this could be said for millions of people across the world…

Hiya Donnie. Long time no see. Glad that you're still around broski. My first exposure to Dragon Ball was on the korean channel 53 in the early 90's way before Toonami or WB brought it over to the states. I was already a fan of anime but seeing the scrappy little monkey boy flying around on a cloud looking for a good fight left an imprint. I was enamored and spread the gospel any way I could. When it progressed to DBZ , The floodgates were opened. I bought the games on the super famicom, the ova movies bootleg with no subs, the super battle collection action figures from Bandai...I was a branch on the tree of all things DBZ. And eventually you meet others who like and love the same things. Yet here we are. Mourning the loss of one of the Giants of both manga & anime. Word to Shenron...R.I.P. Toriyama. Thanks a million for making our childhood richer.

That started my love of anime and manga. Later on In middle school I didn’t have a lot of friends, moving around so much makes it kinda pointless, but I started talking with my soon to be lifelong friend over Dragon ball Z, at the time Ive never watched it but he lent me his DVD boxsets and my little brother and I watched all of DBZ after school, bonding over the story and losing our minds over the fights. It went from the saiyan saga all the way to the end of the namek saga, it would play like this over the course of the weekend and would repeat every few weeks. I fell in love with it day one and have loved it ever since, going on to watch the cell saga and buu saga a few years later. He was such an influential person, on me and on everybody. RIP Akira Toriyama, you will be missed and your works will never be forgotten

Dragon ball changed my life man, I remember my first time seeing dragon ball was a clip on youtube of goku saying that gohan and vegeta were dead, so I looked up their death scenes not knowing any better, which led to me watching Majin Vegeta giving buu the smackdown, and after that I was in love. I binged all of og db, dbz, kai, gt, super and all the movies. Rest in peace toriyama, thank you for changing our lives

He will be dearly missed. I’m 22 and I remember coming home from school and waiting for DBZ Kai to come on thursdays at 8 back when I was a kid. My parents let me sit in the living room and watch in on our big TV. It really captivated me, and shaped my interest and love for anime and manga. And it helped me through some tough times in my life. Akira Toriyama you will be missed dearly, and your impact on my life and the lives of many other will never be forgotten.

I loved dragon ball and still do to this day, I remember fondly when I had my DS and played Dragon Ball Z Super Sonic Warriors 2, it was my favorite game on the DS, and Akira gave us so much more. I hope he's in a better place. He will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Akira Toriyama. i really cant believe it, i dont even know how to feel right now. His world and creations made me into the artist i am today. Dbz has been such a huge inspiration in my life. I remember when my older brothers introduced me to it back in the late 2000s when i was in elementary. We would gather around our tiny tv on the floor and would wait for toonami to come on. And then afterwards i would just sit and draw so much dbz for hours and it became a passion of mine to one day create my own world and characters just like dbz. Thank you so much Akira Toriyama, for creating some of the most memorable parts of my life.

I remember being 6 or 7 and going on a flight to Mexico with my mom to see family. My cousin at the time showed a show I had never seen before. of dragon ball. I thought it was the coolest shit I had ever seen before. When I flew back to the states, I couldn’t find it for the life of me until I was 11 or 12. Watching dbz on toonami every day after school was peak for me until it ended. Later when I was 17, I decided to rewatch it again and I found a new love for it all over again. db shaped my childhood. I'm 25 years old and Dragon Ball has been so much more to me than simply a show. Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, so many characters in Dragon Ball were more than characters in a show for me. They were role models. They pushed me to be the best that i can be and continue to do so.
I have an interesting and very wonderful relationship with Dragon Ball. My dad found Dragon Ball when he was in high school (yeah my dad is young lol he's 47 now) and insantly became a fan and when i was born ever since i could remember Dragon Ball was a part of my life. It was a way that i could bond with my dad.
I felt like my dad was Goku and I was Gohan. My cousins all loved Dragon Ball too and we would always fight each other as kids as different Dragon Ball characters.
I'm honestly just rambling right now with what im saying and could say so much more about what Dragon Ball means to me and others.
D-Free I'm glad that Dragon Ball was able to get you through tough periods in your life man and I'm glad that it has brought so many people together. This is a heartbreaking day but we'll get through this brothers and honor Akira Toriyama by loving his creation for many years to come.

Earliest memory is when in Lithuania, there was a channel that would always show 2 Dragon ball Z episodes, right after school, watching it from 7-8 years old, Toriyama was as start of my anime series, going to naruto, bleach and others. Now 23 years old, played all the games, watched all fan animations, all episodes, watching old fights on repeat. Started making DBZ AMV at 13y old, started to try drawing, first fanart was Goku. My grandma would always let me stay up late to watch the two episodes of dragonball that they would show every night as long as i turned off all the lights before bed. When it would finish id turn off the light and the tv and sprint to bed. Id do this every night despite being terrified of the dark because i loved dragon ball. My grandma has also passed on as well and idk im just so grateful to him for making dragon ball. Made my childhood so fun.
